Actually i know all about the Shah, but I am speaking of 21st century Iran. the country whose oil infrastructure was crumbling, but instead of seizing the moment when Russia couldnt come in and repair it (before oil skyrocketed and the dollar plummeted) we invaded Iraq. I guess getting some oil 5 years and several billion dollars later will be okay, but nowhere near ideal.

I dont believe I suggested an invasion, I suggested that we shouldve been answering the call to rescue their ailing infrastructure. Perhaps so we could ensure "our interests" (the quotes are because I dont think we need a presence in the ME) in the region without imposing our will and the inevitable instability that follows.
