  • dude please help, i can do the the left hand and right hand with the bass on the up beat, but when your left hand does the up beat, does it match up with the up beat your right foot is doing on the bass, i can get my left hand to match with my right foot, is just practice or a method ....

  • I know it's off topic but i dig your accent. and this vid was helpful man good job :)

  • woah!!

  • WHAT!?!?! sex ate time?!?! no really thanks for the vid!

  • Thanks for your help

  • If you grew up listening to Dave Brubeck or Don Ellis, you wouldn't need counting lessons lol

  • that is fucking cool dude

  • guy is goood. Nice.

  • que groso! Lo dificil que habra sido!

  • wow man, this is great! im impressed!

  • Your probably the reincarnated version of Bonham

  • Thats awesome Great tip Thanx Bro !!!!!!!

  • do caralho! parabens!

  • like your accent man, nice drumming btw

  • sounds like jungle music

  • Nice!!!

  • Excellent Tutorial. This will certainly give me some nice structure when trying to learn and get used to the patterns. This will be a great challenge. You are an excellent drummer. How hours did this cover take for you to master?

  • what drums set do you using there?and the cymbals?,you have a great sound

  • Great job, thanks for the lesson. Check out Four Sticks again - I'm pretty sure I hear John playing doubles also on the bass - it adds another bottom to the rhythm under the toms. I'm trying to work through this song but it's tough to picture what he's doing all the time. I also read he's using the rims for some of the "click" sounds - who really knows? Again awesome man.

  • Nice tutorial mate, My son has started playing the drums and he seems to be very good on them. His school teachers are well impressed.

He appreciates and admires Bohnam's style and skill but hes not really into Zeppelin.

However after having watched some of your videos I think ill be pointing him in your direction for some tips.

Thanks for taking the time to record and up these.

  • are you welsh? excellent covers btw, im teaching myself with your videos, almost got fool in the rain, hi hat is tricky for me

  • U're gooooooooooooooooooooooooood

  • thank god you actually used four sticks. a surprising amount of people only use two sticks on this song on youtube. its in the title for goodness sake.

  • @300daysandnights ......Bonzo DID NOT use four sticks, but was described to have sounded as if he was, since there was so much going on. Period. Carry on and argue amongst yourselves now. The echo at Page's mansion had a lot to do with it, and the way they hung microphones from the staircase.

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland you are wrong. in an interview with guitar world jimmy page said bonzo actually did use four sticks at once on this song which was why it was called four sticks. so who should people believe, you or jimmy page?

  • @300daysandnights ......Was Jimmy on heroin and up for a week snorting cocaine at the time? Hmmmmm......

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland seeing as how it was 2010 that he talked about making zeppelin four in the article, no. have you been shooting up heroin for a week and snorting cocaine? hmmmmmm.....

  • That is the COOLEST thing, Even without the four sticks

  • Great cover good job .......try to incorporate some of these moves into ur next attempt when practicing

I never looked at the sheet music of how its actually done, but its fun just the same. O on my page 4 sticks with 2 the snare is never used ....

  • @Mightyhumungus

Hey, the drummer on your channel certainly has an interesting way of playing it. It's pretty cool, but I don't think Bonzo played this tune with triplets around the kit. Flans maybe, but not triplets. He used triplets a lot in his solos and for fills etc. Anyway I don't want to start a big debate about this, I've been involved in a few of those already! This video is pretty old so check out my last couple of videos for my more recent attempt at this groove...

  • @Phrase Triplets were certainly a part of this groove.... No debate necessary.... And I think you mean "flams"? Also, the snares were turned off... Just sayin...

  • Well done mate, very impressive

  • Bro - You are the man. Thank you for showing us what awesome is. Thumbs Up - Love Zeppelin - I Sing some myself - i'll have more to come soon

  • you mean that's where the title "Four Sticks" came from? I didn't know that. wow, fock me.

  • Excellent, Fronzo....outstanding. Are there any vids of you and your band??

  • @boltmancraft

    Thanks!

Yeah, there are quite a few on my channel! Just search for "Led Astray Zeppelin Tribute" and you will find a few videos...

  • awesome tutorial man. keep the godly john bonham style going.

  • Your supposed to be playing it with 4 sticks!

  • Good job, man! cool sound. you got it.

  • Awesome job, Fronzo... John Bonham is smiling down on you, brother!

  • Awesome job Fronzo.... John Bonham is smiling down on you, brother!

  • I have never had any doubts what so ever on the fact that Bonzo was and still is the greatest rock drummer. this is a nice try on what he is doing on record but if you listen closely to the album all you can say is -"what the fuck is he doing !?! "

  • You never realize how hard Bonham's grooves and fills are until you try them out. Awesome job.

  • Great job dude ...best version so far...Thanks

  • Not a drummer at all, just searched YouTube to see if there was a live performance of this. Fantastic stuff. And yeah, like someone said, just the beard is missing ;]

  • Thats badass...that hihatt shit his hard to do man...

  • My 7 year old nephew loved this lesson!

  • The only thing missing is the beard!!!!!

  • wow, you make it look easy.... wow.

  • you're great!

  • Awesome break-down of the rhythmic structure of this brilliant tune.

  • wow, I always knew Bonham was a killer drummer, but this really allows me to appreciate him that much more. Good job on it too. Not so bad yourself haha.

  • wow you actually did a lesson on one of the most amazing drum songs ever... GOOD JOB!!!

  • people think Bonham is not very good because he doesnt play the new, fast slam your beats together to hide mistakes kind of music. He is one of the greatest of all time. Very nice video!

  • Man... i love ya... I wanna have your children... I've been trying to suss this one out for ages... such a difficult and complex piece and you played it beautifully... I now appreciate Bonham's drumming even more than i did before, and thats sayin sumthin!. you are one cool dude...!!!!

  • You are a great drummer and great help to me.

    Thank you so mUCH!

You helped me straighten out "Fool in the Rain" as well ;)

  • yea it's true. Try it.

  • thank god

before this that song was an enigma to me

  • Yes he actually did use two sticks in each hand. If you listen closely on the regular recording you can hear the clicks of the drumsticks.

  • Good job! Sounds great as well.

  • I could never figure out how Bonham got that drumming rhythm on "Four Sticks." Even when I heard this song for the first time when I was around 9 or 10, I was puzzled then, saying to myself, "How in the world did he do it?"

Big thank you for the drum lesson and how to play it!

  • dang your good thx for showing me!!

  • Very nice demonstration! Hats off to you sir!

  • ...and to (roy) harper.

  • wow, i LOVE it! you're fantastic. i wish i knew how to play the drums...... maybe i need lessons. ty for posting this!!!!!

  • you sir.... are good :)

  • damn you r good...

  • its jealousy it what you tube is all obout a bunch of know it all nothings the viewers r usually the idiots haha thanks for the techniqus

  • He played this with the snares off and the accents you are playind on the rack tom are varied around the snare, rack and floor...

  • You'll get much more of the "click" sound from the wood if you turn the sticks around to play butt-end on the drums. This is because when the tapered ends are in your hands it bends the sticks apart more so they can really slap together. Try it by holding them that way and just smacking the palm of your hand.

  • you're a good player, bro.

  • thanks

  • and this is exactly why john bonham is the best drummer.

  • Incredible dude. Sweet accent by the way.

  • Fucking brilliant dude!!!

  • Four Tylenols, Please!

    Kidding, very good.

Also great to hear the real thing, after so many of my fellow Americans imitating the accent (and going under in the vortex of pretentiousness).

  • Awesome, I've been trying to figure out this time signature. Skills.

  • I'm 99% sure that when bonham played this song he used one stick for a rimshot and the other to hit the drum

thats how he got the wooden sound

Im pretty sure but I could be wrong

  • Bonham used 4 sticks when he recorded the song. Google it, and you'll find a number of links about it. It also says it in the Led Zeppelin Biography

  • Yes i know.

You may have misunderstood what I said :)

  • Ginger Baker was as good drummer as John Bonham but in a completely different style. Cant really compare them, like comparing Apples and Oranges. Both Tremendously Great Drummer. Let hear it for TOAD & MOBY DICK

  • ABSOLUTE KICK ASS, THANK YOU!!!!

  • Just feel the music people. You make everything so much more confusing

  • Can someone please tab this???

  • No.

  • you have to used 2 sticks in each hand to get the true beat (thus being called FOUR STICKS)

  • excellent video thank you

  • no one has the mind and foritude as bonzo

  • excellent playing. very goofy time signature indeed

  • I can imagine Bonham watchin this, thinkin he,d rather have a pint.He never worked it all out, just went for it.He lived up the road from me.He just played the drums, full stop.Oh,and ploughed his fields and drove his cars.and drunk a lot..and hated everythin that went with Led Zep,apart from drummin.

  • dont think so. he was a good man at heart and if he seen this he would buy him a pint! soo whatever.

  • This is very helpful! I'm working out an interpretation for solo guitar. Your explanation of the basic time signatures and counting make it very clear what needs to happen rhythmically - what really drives the tune forward.

Anything we should consider for that "Hear the owls cry in the night" bit?

  • What do you mean "wake up" ?

Even Robert Plant has introduced this song (after Bonham's death) by saying

"The next song is a tribute to the first man who picked up four sticks and played the drums".

Get your facts right before you post more silly comments!

  • @Sirburnallot you're an idiot sirburnallot

  • @Sirburnallot haha don't call people idiots when you have no clue what you're talking about. How else would he make it sound like he's using fours sticks? That's why you can hear the sticks clicking together. I think you need to spend some quality time listening to the track.

  • @cnewman99 Sorry my comment bothered so many drummers. I've played drums since I was a kid. I grew up study'ing the greats from all the great bands..you name it! .

I guess the reason I commented about the use of four sticks.. was because I've done it with single sticks..he may have done it in concert for shits and giggles with 4. But I don't think he did it on Zep Four? But I could be wrong...If I am...forgive me. p.s. I do have 10 minites of my drumming on my facebook.. f ur interstd.

  • @Sirburnallot your a fag!

  • @Sirburnallot well.... actually he did use four sticks when playing this song....that's where the clicking noise come to the song...

  • Why do you think its called "Four sticks"?? Common sense.

  • One of the few drum videos where the fucking guy actually plays the part right. Nice job.

  • u gotta be one confident dude to have the nickname "Fronzo" and be in a band called "Led Astray"

  • nice one man..

  • very cool

  • cool !

  • ginger baker does tht man.....hes cool

  • love his accent. awesome vid..bonham was god. I'm convinced.

  • Yea, he played it with 4 sticks. 2 drumsticks in each hand.

  • how many ppl actually know why this song is called 4 sticks

  • you would think you would of worked that out by now

  • John Bonham played this song using Four Sticks.

  • that's what I'm looking for a is a video showing the four sticks being used.

  • awesome

  • Scottish?

  • Amazing.

  • Very good, but one small problem, when bonham done this, to get the sound and the clicking he had to hit the drums as hard as he can, which resulted him cutting his hands. Fair play that was good to see how it was done

  • Fantastic! Thank you. Gonna go and give that a whirl. Outstanding playing, and I love the sound of your drums.

  • Dude!

    Outstanding!

Thank you so much for breaking it down!

You are my new Drum hero!

  • Thanks JRB!

Glad you find my videos helpful.

  • Thanks for posting this man, I never could figure out what the hell he was doing. Sounds like he was using his hands to get that real "wood" sounds also.

  • you kinda sound and look like him a little

  • IMMENSE!!!

  • Four things..AWESOME ACCENT! AWESOME PLAYING! AWESOME DRUM SET! AWESOME SHIRT!

  • Nah, the shirt is rubbish ;-)

  • dude this is awesome but y isnt your floor tom muffled???

  • Fronzo; you're awesome. I love four sticks...always wanted to find a drummer who could play it...adorable Scottish accent.

    Amy

  • Oh my gosh!!! Thank you!!!!

  • u be ma new hero

  • haven't played in years, but I always played it differently, a little closer to the way Bonham played it, good job though, keep it up

  • Impressive

  • What I like most about this version is that the dynamics vary, giving it a sense of purpose. So many of the YouTube performances are too metronomic--"correct" but dull, as though the drummer is flowing through the piece rather than attacking it. Rich and Bonham sounded like they lived the music, not merely performed it. This has a bit of that, and is all the better for it.

  • What size and type cymbals are you playing?

  • Great job love the Bonham licks and grooves.those are some of my Favs too keep on rockin,Laters T.Maines

  • impressive didn't think you'd even be able to pull it off but it was good!!!!!!!

  • very good.

  • Great!

  • Awesome!

  • Really good job man! I'd love to see footage of Bonham actually playing with four sticks live!

  • Thank you for your videos. I'm just starting out on drums and because of your earlier video lesson of "Fool in the Rain" I was able to suprise the hell out of my teacher. Check out "Virtual Zeppelin" on YouTube sometime, they've got some cool stuff goin on too.
