  • Worthy never really shot threes, but it seems every time he attempted one it went in. Now he'd probably be encouraged to attempt 6 a game

  • @jrsample0425 I liked that trade. Sam Perkins was a straight spot up shooter, with little athleticism. Doug Christie was young, energetic, athletic but had limited shooting range. The trade made sense at the time.

  • just trollin' late night and I came across this classic. Wow what memories, I'll tell you Suns fans are VERY much johnny come lately. During the 62-20 regular season run everywhere I went everyone had Suns fever. After this game it was like the Suns never existed. They came back and won the series 3-2 but I realized what a lame ass state AZ is for supporting their teams.

  • @jrsample0425 AND they barely i mean barely lost....in fact they had a 4 point lead with a minute to go in the deciding game! they deserved to win it.their effort was amazing.

  • I know the Suns eventually won this series but as a Laker fan, it still feels good to watch the Suns suffer!

  • damn, worthy bounced that ball high as hell lol

to bad the lakers didnt even win the series

  • I remember that this wasn't as big an upset as people think. The Lakers were still a strong team here - having made the NBA finals only 2 years before. What happened was that Phoenix just didn't execute. Everyone knew this was a tough draw for Phoenix for the first round.

  • @chessarama

Na'ah...people expected a sweep for Phoenix going in. I remember Sedale and Scott going off in Game One and thinking that was pretty legit but would be the one we got. Then, I watched this outside of an electronics store at the mall (no joke)...probably only about 2-3 minutes before this clip starts and I was thinking, 'this can't be happening'. When Worthy bounced that ball...I must've floated through that place for the next 15-20 minutes lol. Its a shame they couldn't finish it

  • Magis is a passionate and funny commentator. Why did he quit this job?

  • @Lorenshyne ... to coach the Lakers the following spring.

  • @Lorenshyne ... to coach the Lakers the next year.

  • divacs moves remind me alot of pau now especially at 3:15

  • This was a great series. If you remember the Suns even though they had the league's best record were no where near the best team in the playoffs. They struggled in every round that year and I think Magic made a good point about them not being able to handle the pressure of being the #1 seed and having so many people picking them to win. They almost got eliminated by a team with a losing record!

  • what if magic didnt retire...what if magic didnt retire.....

  • @radiolaugh Magic would of been the low post threat that Barkley was in that era but better because he was once in a life time player. Sedale handles the point guard duties and Magic at Small forward and put him in the post to beast dudes and kill them with low post passing, nasty. Jordan didn't have a rival in that era that version of Magic would have been it.

  • Comment removed

  • I forgot how brutal it was listening to magic on commentary. He can't even string together a sentence.

  • eeeeeasy hiv magic, u thought your stupid team could actually win the series. he sounds like such a homer

  • @regi79 stfu u loser that y phoenix sucks and steve nash is getn out of that shitty town bitch

  • @regi79

It's people like you that make me wish some moms would just swallow

  • zooshoes I'm 5 5 and dunking - crazy right? How can I jump so high? check out (50 inch vertical [dot] com)

  • sounds like Magic wanted to get in this game.

  • This is one of my all time favorite games. Magic went from composed commentator to straight up Laker fan #1. The Lakers ultimately got hosed in this series, but this game was KUH LASSIC.

  • lmao! Magic is clearly Laker biased. I dont blame him. Still cant believe the lakers lost this series.

  • The Suns would have won it all if it weren't for some preferential officiating in favor of the Bulls(Jordan), and a John Paxson 3 pointer.

  • @TexasPsychoK

SUns would of won it all???? Betta be happy Da Suns escaped this round. And i MEan Escaped!!! For a few bad calls in the 4th quarter and OT in Game 5 the Suns Would of been home playin golf. One of the biggest upsets in da playoffs LAkers beating da Suns

  • If dat had Happened

  • @showstoppa01 Of course, Kevin Johnson didn't play in Game One due to a severely sprained left MCL and he returned for Game Two ahead of schedule (he was supposed to miss most, if not all. of this series). With a healthy K.J. from the series' start, the Suns may have won in three or four games.

Either way, the series provided incredible drama and the Lakers possessed the front-court height to bother Charles Barkley and the Suns (the league's shortest team across its starting front-line).

  • Do some research and search up boston zone defense and look at the amazing zone defense and switches Boston did to Lakers probably the best I've ever seen. Defense IMO is no different then what it was in the 90's and so on buddy theres way more 7+ footers in this era then there ever was and a way larger influx of Centers/Power Fowards being able to shoot jumpers and 3's compared to back in the old days. The game is evolving nowadays if you wanna be a center and pf u need a decent jumper.

  • Dude, that was true of being a good center or power-forward back then too... And that defense the Celtics played was actually more of a man to man defense, with a little bit of zone thrown in. How many times was Kobe Bryant stopped when defended one on one by Paul Pierce or Ray Allen? Quite a few times if I remember correctly. :)

  • Umm never?? Anytime Kobe had 1 on 1 chances he drilled a jumper. Look at the video already every time Kobe had the ball they would collapse the paint hoarding him with 3 defenders.

  • @Power2People59 Boston didn't play a "zone," just great traditional defense. Defense is much less physical than it used to be and the lane is open due to the institution of the defensive three seconds rule in 2001.

And Jordan faced "zones," too, even if they were technically illegal.

  • de ja vu

  • Wow... But I thought nobody played defense in the west back in the early 90's? I thought the Suns COULDN'T play defense back then? I thought that the Lakers couldn't hold a team below 100 points in a game?

Yet MORE evidence proving why the game back in the day was more competitive than today's NBA. :)

  • Offense/jump shooters/crossovers all that is wayy better in this era then in the 90's. Back then the only reason why defense seemed "better" was because in this era they changed a few rules on defense to make it a little easier scoring. People are bigger stronger faster and more athletic then ever before.

  • Dude, if your "analysis" of the game is based on offense, jump shooters and crossovers, then I'm not even going to bother! You have NO clue what your talking about.

  • Where did i say this is my analysis of the game fool? Here let me quote this part maybe you didn't read like a typical moron wouldn't "Offense/jump shooters/crossovers all that is wayy better in this ERA" keyword better in this era. That is all I'm saying where did i say thats my analysis of the game I'm merely stating a fact, go back to school.

  • *Laughs!* The only one needing to go to school here is you! I'm probably about 10 years your SENIOR little guy. I've watched the game from back then and now. I'll guarantee you that you take the best scorers of the 80's and 90's (Jordan, Alex English, Glen Rice, Mitch Richmond, Reggie Miller, Bernard King, etc) and put them in today's game, ALL of their scoring and assists averages would jump WAAY UP, thanks to the defensive changes made that have WATERED DOWN today's NBA.

  • Check your messages and shared videos i just pretty much ripped you with facts as to why defense is better in this era then what it use to be.

  • *HAHAHAHAHAHAH!* My GOD you are a young and naive little BOY aren't you. :)

I've SAW the entire NBA Finals last year, from Game 1 to Game 6 and I'm sorry to say that bar the first couple of games in the series, Kobe Bryant just didn't show up. A guy who's meant to be SUPERIOR to Michael Jordan SHOULDN'T be shooting a combined 21-62 from the field in the last 3 games of the series. Nor virtually allow his team to be blown out in Game 6 of a Finals. :)

  • And the fact that your showing me those "game analysis" videos from confirmed Kobe-jocker PAH, shows you up even MORE. I've got no time for idiots like you.

  • Fact: The shooting percentages of today's premiere players are LOWER than those from the 80's and 90's, when defenses were tougher than today's.

And so what if you can do a few more fancy crossovers if you end up turning the ball over or hanging on to the ball too long and ending up tossing up a bad shot? Come back to me when your teenaged acne-riddled face isn't shoved so far up your on behind ok. :)

  • LOL@U prove it? Sorry theres no proof behind that. Its a fact everyone knows Kobe is the best jump shooter the nba has ever seen he can spot up for anywhere on the court and hit the medium range jumper. Jordan was a good jump shooter but doesn't even get on Kobe's level in that department Jordan drove it in the paint a lot more then Kobe does.

And bro with the changes that were made were also good things zone defenses were illegal back in the days they just recently made it legal.

  • And you just showed yourself up to being the IDIOT Kobe-homer I suspected you of being!

How can a player who hasn't had ANY seasons shooting a field goal percentage even MATCHING that of MJ when he had become more of a jumpshooter following his first retirement in 93-94, be a better jump shooter than arguably the greatest player of all time?

The changes made to the defensive side of the NBA have just made it easier for today's stars to pad their stats on free throws and less contested shots.

  • Wow I'm done arguing with you its clear you know nothing about basketball. And its clear you didnt' watch any of the videos I sent you.

  • @Power2People59 What does Kobe Bryant have to do with this thread? The Kobester isn't even the best jump-shooter in today's NBA, let alone better than Jordan, and all kinds of de-facto zones existed back in the day.

  • 92-93 lakers had no business making this a competitive series.. showed great heart but came up short

  • its crazy how the team fell apart when magic left shows how important magic was to the lakers

  • lakers fell apart when riley resigned, kareem retired, and magic retired.

  • they did make the finals 91

  • yeah but was overmatched by the bulls. no kareem and magic's health was deteriorating, and most importantly no riley.

  • I remember that series. The Lakers had their chance to win, but James Worthy missed that shot. Oliver Miller played the best bball of his entire life as well. One of those ALMOST BIG-TIME UPSETS

  • the passion of worthy at the end of the game.... BIG GAME JAMES!

  • back then it was best out of 5. Too bad lakers lost the series

  • This series defied logic; the Suns were 5-0 against the Lakers that season with only one of the games being close. Then, after the Suns came back with two road wins to even the series, the Lakers still nearly pulled it off in Game 5. They were up 4 with a minute left and had the last shot of regulation in a tie game before Phoenix pulled away in OT.

  • LOL at 2:58 after the Divac baseline spin and dunk, Magic screams at the top of his lungs "OHH AND FOULED ON THE PLAY!!!!!!!!" Absolutely classic, I think he was more excited with that play than his baby hook to beat the Celtics in '87 haha. Bring back announcer Magic, doesnt get any funnier

  • And it would only get better...when he used the fake word "thowed" instead of throwed in the NBA Finals. And at the halftime of Game 4, he said he'd split the Coach of the Year award three ways: 50% to Phil Jackson, 50% to Pat Riley and 50% to Randy Pfund. LOL

  • "80 all....VERY low scoring!"

    God I miss those days...

  • @TRJ22487 cause now people like lebron are on steriods and bribing the refs so they could win.

  • @TRJ22487 SAME HERE I LOVED THESE GAMES...

  • @TRJ22487 when teams played real defense

  • i remember this game, i was so happy when the lakers won...too bad they couldn't pull off the big upset. Denver pulled off the big upset the next year

  • wow, memories, I have that game on VHS. Still remember Randy Pfund running to the lockers room..

It was a sad season for the Lakers, as they were all since november 91 until 95-96.

But with that Laker team + the comentator of that game as point guard, Michael would have retired with 5 rings instead of 6 ;)

  • >Michael would have retired with 5 rings instead of 6

Picking up Sedale Threatt was a nice move for 1992. Would have loved to have watched that series against the Bulls. Worthy pulling spin moves ...

  • @tonton6969

Do u still have this game on tape, i miss the old days when Magic was on NBC!!!

  • Haha, how about Danny Ainge's dorky chili-bowl haircut or Byron Scott's ultra-goofy flattop hairdo, haha!

  • I would love to the see those Sir Charles triple doubles and incredible games v.s the Spurs and Sonics in the Western Semi and Finals. Ofcourse i would like if someone put the rest of this series XD

  • This series reminded me a lot of 1984 Sixers vs New Jersey Nets playoff series, where New Jersey won the first two games in Philadelphia, then the Sixers won both games in New Jersey. Except in that series Dr J & Moses got knocked out in Game 5, the road team won every game that series

  • I didn't know what to make of this series. Keep in mind that a #8 team had never defeated a #1 team. I also remember that a team had never come back in a series after losing its first two home games. It was the last stand for the old Lakers. But the Showtime era had ended when Johnson retired.

  • vlade with the worthy like spin at 3:12

  • Why don`t you put the rest of the series. Sir Charles owned everyone that year. He was guarded by centers often and still Owned (David Robinson XD)

  • What was with the Suns that year? They lost their home court against the Bulls in the Finals and then fought valiantly on the road to force a game six, similar to the Suns winning in LA to force a game 5. It was almost like Phoenix made it as hard as possible on themselves to win playoff series lol.

  • I believe they lost Game 5 against Seattle at home as well and had to fight back from 3-2 to win.

  • They won Game 5 against Seattle, but they got hammered in Game 6. And in Game 7, they found a way to trail by as many as 12 until Barkley took the game over. Typical Suns that year, but you gotta love them.

  • ah ok, i was going by memory, but I guess 15 years later it starts to go on you. Phoenix played 6 elimination games that playoffs and one five of them. They really should have been able to win Game 6 against Chicago they looked primed to win going into the final 2 minutes and nobody for Phoenix stepped up. Barkley had a bad game.

  • The Suns lost Game Two of the 1993 Western Conference Finals at home versus the Sonics and then won Game Three in Seattle to reclaim home-court advantage the rest of the way. In the second and third rounds versus the Spurs and Sonics, Phoenix went a combined 6-1 at home.

As for the end of Game Six versus the Bulls, I'd say that the play-calling from the bench was the problem. Instead, the Suns should have put the ball in Kevin Johnson's hands and let him create or try to draw a foul.

  • Actually, the Suns' largest deficit in Game Seven against Seattle was 37-33 and Phoenix led at the end of each quarter (31-26, 57-51, 91-80, and 123-110). Barkley and K.J. combined to shoot 33-38 (.868) from the foul line.

  • Some insightful, unbiased commentary provided by the Magic Man, as usual. I don't think anybody was ever a worse color guy than Magic.

  • What about Isiah Thomas for Game 6 of the '98 Finals? A complete disaster!

  • Suns owned the Lakers in 93 and continue to now.

  • Actually, no.

The Lakers blow the 2-0 lead, and choked in game 4 and 5, with Scott and Worthy making rookie mistakes.

And, in this century, tha lakers have lost the 2 playoff series they played against the Suns.

  • damn this was crazy i was like 4 years old when this happend

  • holy cow i was in third form

at high school i remember this game

man, back when kj was playing

    and chuck barkley,

  • Do you have any video of the Lakers' final game of the 1992 regular season against the Clippers? That game was good.

  • This was one of the most exciting games I ever watched. IMHO, Pfund would have been one of the best coaches in the NBA had he had the Showtime lineup he helped to build in the 1980s.

  • Yeah, the team with the best record on the brink of elimination by the team with NO chance. Reminds me of the Dallas-Golden State series, only the warriors won.

  • LoL @ Byron Scott's flat top.

  • i will never forget that series but my lakers lost game 5 cause a bad decision by scott in the last game in OT

  • Barkley was actually slender!

  • Loved those Sunday Playoff Tripleheaders on NBC.

  • Could someone please post this entire game/series? This was an awesome series and LA almost won it.

  • I was 18 when this played live...my bandwagon jumping mates gave me shit for sticking with my team, and I was relieved LA even made it into the playoffs with a 40-42 record. Man, did those first two games ever shut them the hell up. GREAT spike by Big Game James at the end :-)

  • I miss these days, the classic NBA...the true NBA! Wow...

  • i was so crushed when the lakers blew their 2-0 lead in this series. i was a 12 year old kid, and i remember even crying a bit after game 5, haha. Anyone who remembers this series well though will recall that the Lakers had a golden opportunity to sweep. We had a 1 or 2 point lead with 40 something seconds to go in game 3 back in LA and big Game James missed a wide-open 10 footer which would have given us a 2 possession lead with 40 seconds left. this series should have never gone to a game 5!

  • ^ Forget that, the fucking scum refs gave Phx 2 pts off of what was a 24 sec vio in the final half minute of Gm5. They should've won Gm5!

  • Yeah. I left a message 10 months ago about the Suns catching breaks down the stretch of game 5. And that dunk is the most memorable for me.

Charles, you were too late! Us lakers' fans won't forget that!

  • dude, i miss the nba on nbc. that theme song is unforgettable!

  • That is Magic commentating, right?

  • Yeah, great objectivity on his part.

  • Look at all the intelligent conversation taking place in these comments..Go to a video of a present day Youtube video of the Lakers, and it's all kids arguing and name calling about Kobe or their favorite team and how much better they are than yours.... Just saying.

  • You're right but don't forget Detroit had 6'11 Rasheed Wallace and 7 foot Elden Campbell so they a decent big man lineup.Lakers were screwed after Karl Malone went down.

  • Unless your starting center is Bill Russell there is no way that you can win a title with a guy 6'9 or 6'10 just ask the 1994 Sonics. You knew this would happen Phoenix was lucky to dodge this bullet in GM5 but Seattle couldn't the following year.

  • 2004 Detroit Pistons did it with undersided Ben Wallace.

This was a great series though, back when anything truly could happen. The Suns were so good on the road and so bad at home during the stretch in the playoffs that year.

  • nice biased commentating from Magic...lol. as a Suns fan i remember being so stunned and upset after this loss. man, this is when every single playoff series was very watchable

  • Exactly, very different from today, when only some of them are watchable.

  • I remember game 5 ; Worthy was just on fire in the 4th and OT ; but Suns won

  • Worthy was 11-23. Almost 50%. Still not enough.

  • top stuff!! keep posting!! Hello from Portugal

  • Thanks for posting. I remember how great it felt having the Lakers win both of the first two games in Phoenix.

I vaguely remember watching Game 5. I was 10 years old at the time. I just remember the Suns being fortunate to be playing in overtime. Although, highlights you see today of Game 5 make it seem as if the Lakers were hanging around making it difficult. It sure seemed to me that Phoenix had multiple breaks late in the fourth quarter that allowed them to get into overtime.

  • Your right Phoenix was lucky just to get to Overtime. If Byron Scott made that 3 at the end of the 4th Lakers would have played San Antonio in the 2nd Round

  • Thanks for posting. I'd love to see the end of Games Three and Five of this series.
