Last year, I saw that someone had uploaded the entire first episode from a VHS. It has since been taken down, along with the upload of just the "bathing" film that was removed from the DVD version. Can anyone tell me how I can find these videos again? Thank you all.
Its amazing how much I can actually recite things that were shown on this original episode -- I was 6 when Sesame Street started. And this is the first time I've seen Sesame Street since the early 70s...
Good to see this bit get posted. I was beginning to think I was the only one who saw this intro back in the day. If I remember correctly, all of the shows on season one had the intro. Although I must admit, I don't recollect the "in color" part.
I actually have the very first episode of sessame street in the late 60s with 'bob' singing the beginning themesong...scary indeed. big bird has less hair, oscar is red, and ernie and kermit look like they're high. it's hilarious.
I really hope SS goes all out this year for the 40th anniversary, including airing (on TV) some classic skits and sketches. The rate the show is going, this year may be the last milestone anniversary of the show (45th is possible, 50th I have my doubts).
I first saw that clip as a kid back in the 80's, when I was watching some news story on Sesame Street. It was there I learned that it first aired in 1969, but I mistakenly thought that little electronic tune was actually the original theme music to Sesame Street. After watching some of the 1st season openings on YouTube, I learned that initially SS episodes begun with these little animated segments.
Huh?

Dissonant electronic music and claymation mutants. You know, for the kids!

plus both the music from the in color bit and the stop motion clip reminds me of the original 1978 Dawn of the Dead

Oscar was orange, not red. He had the same voice though.
