  • Huh?

  • that was creepy

  • well the stop motion bit also kinda sounded like the electronic music from

Night of The Living Dead (1968 version)

  • It sounds just like the sound effects from Earthbound!

  • Dissonant electronic music and claymation mutants. You know, for the kids!

  • plus both the music from the in color bit and the stop motion clip reminds me of the original 1978 Dawn of the Dead

  • intresting, never knew synthesizers sounded that great in the 60's

  • 42 Years. 42 Years. I grew up with this show and I have so many memories.

  • Does anybody know the instrument(s) the "In

color" bit is played on? ...Just curious...I actually kinda like it.

  • Does anybody know where the bumper at the beginning is from?

  • Last year, I saw that someone had uploaded the entire first episode from a VHS. It has since been taken down, along with the upload of just the "bathing" film that was removed from the DVD version. Can anyone tell me how I can find these videos again? Thank you all.

  • Straight Sandoz, baby!

  • The end kind of has the same sound as the 1972 CTW Snake bumper

  • Gumby...............

    Chiller

  • hahaha well.... thts different

  • Its amazing how much I can actually recite things that were shown on this original episode -- I was 6 when Sesame Street started. And this is the first time I've seen Sesame Street since the early 70s...

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY SESAME STREET!!! 40 years today!

  • Good to see this bit get posted. I was beginning to think I was the only one who saw this intro back in the day. If I remember correctly, all of the shows on season one had the intro. Although I must admit, I don't recollect the "in color" part.

  • I'm quite amazed at the picture quality! It looks like this 40-year-old bumper was made today!

  • I actually have the very first episode of sessame street in the late 60s with 'bob' singing the beginning themesong...scary indeed. big bird has less hair, oscar is red, and ernie and kermit look like they're high. it's hilarious.

  • Oscar was orange, not red. He had the same voice though.

  • They all looked stoned if you ask me!

  • can you post it please?!? <p

  • I don't know if that's the NET (now called PBS later and still stands its name) in color bumper or not. do you know if that's it?

  • Looking back at this, it's amazing to see how far Sesame Street has come.

  • Upload Episode 1 Of Sesame Street!

  • I really hope SS goes all out this year for the 40th anniversary, including airing (on TV) some classic skits and sketches. The rate the show is going, this year may be the last milestone anniversary of the show (45th is possible, 50th I have my doubts).

  • of course it will go 50, why would thyey miss that marker, longest running show of all time!!!

  • The animation is like Gumby-ish. In a way.

  • wow i love that synthesized music. so haunting

  • omg tele vision in color what an abomination

  • 1960s animation! WOW!!!! Very old bumpers!

What happened to the end of "Barney: Celebrating Around the World (20th Anniversary)"?

  • I first saw that clip as a kid back in the 80's, when I was watching some news story on Sesame Street. It was there I learned that it first aired in 1969, but I mistakenly thought that little electronic tune was actually the original theme music to Sesame Street. After watching some of the 1st season openings on YouTube, I learned that initially SS episodes begun with these little animated segments.

  • was this on the DVD?

  • please somebody post the opening to episode 1

  • Is it OK if I post the episode bumpers on my fan-club blog? Please let me know soon!

  • Sure go ahead.

  • was this on the SS:OS DVD?

  • @wattamack4 Hey do you have the bumpers for episodes 8 and 115? I'd love to see those
