You have no clue how awesome you are for posting these. I've gone through them all, and they have helped me so much as a premed. I was so happy for you when you chose surgery, you can tell your face just lights up when you talk about it. Best of luck on match day, I know you will be great!!!!
Hey thanks for the videos you have been making very helpfull, I was wondering what was your overall GPA for your undergrad year? I just got my grades, and I am discouraged. Also wondering how was the MCAT? what subjects really help for the MCAT? also did you volunteer during your undergrad years at the hospital?
Great video blogs. Don't take a break, even if it is only during the interview process, keep us informed and possibly you'll take from it an experience you can share with us hopefuls. I hate to hear that you are receiving negative posts but regardless, don't let it interfere with the blogs - there is definitely not enough people doing this. Good luck with the interviews.
Your videos are so helpful for not only medical students but aspiring ones as well! I always wondered how rotations and the whole process of applying for residency programs worked and a lot of my misconceptions were cleared after watching your videos. Good luck with everything until March comes around, I'm sure you are going to get into the program that'll be best for you!
Hey Q, I normally don't respond or add comments but I've watched all your videos and I wanted to say thanks for posting them. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying how much they have helped with motivation on those long nights with the O-chm book. You have a great quality about you and I'm sure you are going to make a wonderful doctor. Good luck on your interviews and quality postings such as this one will be missed!
@makemeupplez Not a silly question at all. We got summer after first year, and time after second year during which we also had to study for and take step one of the licensing exam. Fourth year we have something like 13 weeks total that we can play around with for scheduling (ridiculous, I know). Holidays we generally have off. That all changes during residency though, so I'm enjoying it while I can.
Negative comments? Well, it shows that your logic and persistence actually gets people thinking, but they are not as smart as you and cannot reply logically. When you do come back, I have a question for you and I hope you address it (considering that you have the experience). Good luck and I wish you the best!
@makemeupplez LOL is a gooooooooooood quistion.... but as they say thier are no silly questions...... any question that looks silly to some people looks important to others.
I love these videos.. just watched them all and they helped me a lot... I'm sad that you shutting your account down.. it like going back and watching your videos .. but anyways good luck girl. I think you will be a great surgeon..
We all appreciate your good work, lets us know anything we should watch out for.. as for now im applying to a college this semester. keep in touch as for me and others are here to walk in the path of this long run. good luck!
@bluey678 That's so sweet! Thanks guys, you are the reason I do this and I will be back in February and definitely by March after the match. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
You are Q of SDN :) I have PMed you before, back when I was a re-applicant a few years ago. I'm happy to say I was successful and am now at a med school here in the U.S. Thanks for your help!
i <3 you, your videos give so many viewers critical insight to life as a med student, and i thank you. i am contemplating med school and was wondering what you majored in, i was thinking a B.A in molecular biology but i'm not entirely sure. What do you suggest?
@1dreamerful I did a B.S. in general biology, which afforded me a little more control over my curriculum as I didn't have that many specific requirements to fill. Be careful with a B.A.- most school require a certain amount of math, physics, chem etc that may be more than required to earn the degree. Other than that, if you fill the course requirements for application you can major in *anything* :)
Good luck on your residency selection, hope you get the right matching, it doesn't matter whether you get surgical base or medical base specialty,as both are rewarding.... here in Malaysia, our specialty selection is only after our houseman-ship (after 1st year resident) and base on performance not recommendation letter
Anyone can study medicine, but the people around you that makes it difficult - a saying, so don bother the rubbish negative comment... keep up the good work.
From someone that's doing a career change into the field of medicine I must say that you're videos have been very helpful and I look forward to when you return.
To those people who write negative comments, they are just jealous they aren't in your position. You take the little time you have in your day to inform pre-meds and med students about 3rd year, and I appreciate that more than you know. Thank you!!! Good luck with your interviews, you'll do great. I will definitely miss your posts, you really inspire me as a pre-med to stay on this grueling path.
thank you for all your postings... ive really enjoyed watching them while i was going through my first and second year. now im preparing for the step 1 exam, and i want to know if you have any advice for studying for it? did you use any programs? or did you have question banks that you liked more than others?
I'm a med student in Peru preparing to take my steps. Your videos have always been extremely helpful in a way that gives an insight of what surgical rotations are like in the states. Good luck on the interviews!
Negative comments? What crap. I just want to say thank you for all your help with med school stuff I have about two or three more years till I'm there. It's so cool seeing you excited about rotations and everything I wish you well and even if we don't see you in March thank you so much for the help you have done :)
I have watched most of your videos so far and surprisingly I have never heard you address the question as to what inspired you to become a doctor in the first place. And now that the bulk of your education is coming to an end, was it worth it? Would it be something you would do again? And I would also like to thank you for these post it inspiring watching someone actually at the end of their medical education, it is something i dream about!
@makemeupplez You are right. Actually, I never have good answers for those questions because it was something that I just felt. Deeply. I lived a little before med school and had a series of different jobs and I must say that I *love* this job, and am always happy thinking about what I get to do on any given day. So yeah, definitely worth it, I would totally do it again and I never have regretted it. But that's me...
negative comments??? why would anyone post negative comments on your videos??! I've really enjoyed them, it's awesome to get a sneak peak at what's to come (1st year med student here). Good luck on all your interviews, can't wait for future videos! Thanks for sharing your experiences! :)
i'm gonna miss your videos!! :( and forget about those haters with their negative comments. Ofcourse they're jealous of you, your a gorgeous doctor!! I'm looking forward to your future videos. All your videos have inspired me so much...so thanks :)
Like your videos! I'm actually considering going to medical school. However, my cousin who is an IT guy keeps telling me computer can do most of the work a general doctor does, and in the future, doctor won't be as important and respected as now. This is very discouraging! What do you think? I wonder whether med school talks about the future of this career as technology advances.
@fatheadfish "When you have a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail." I have no doubts your IT friend thinks IT will replace doctoring, but I sincerely doubt it. Yes, you can plug symptoms into a machine and (usually) it will spit out a correct diagnosis but you're missing the human element which is the thing that gets people to actually *take* their medicine. There will never be an IT substitute for trust.
@DoctorishQ Diagnosis and Therapeutics aren't just a science like algebra where 1+1=2 and so a machine can do it.... its more of an Art and communication skill between the doctor and the patient....... thier is a sympathetic relation that can't be replaced by a machine and this empathetic part is a major part of the treatment not only in psychosocial problems but also in biological problems as placebos has proven already.
Sorry to hear you've been getting negative comments.
As someone working towards med school (switching careers), I find your videos to be very pleasant and helpful. Thank you for sharing your story with everyone :).
You also have that "doctor"-y look, FYI. I'm pretty jelly.
Almost march! Looking forward to your coming back! :)
