Actually, if you have a Knowledge Sim, sometimes one of their wants will be to meet a ghost; you just have to be careful going about it.

And that was Marluxia checking for his pulse. (They had us do the same thing during certain exercises in gym class when I was younger.) He died upon realizing that he didn't have one anymore. :c

When a Sim dies, a gravestone is left behind. (You can move graves inside, but since gravestones are typically outside, they'll change into an urn when moved indoors.) The ghost of the deceased Sim will occasionally leave their grave to do a little haunting. (If one of your Sims stops what they're doing and freaks out at seemingly nothing or you see an inanimate object levitate/move... yeah.)

It can actually be a good thing; if one of your Sims has the Knowledge aspiration, sometimes one of their wants will be to see a ghost. I've also seen some gameplay footage from The Sims 3 recently; your Sims can now interact with ghosts like they would with any other Sim, and the ghost will be a different color depending on how they died. (Not that they weren't in The Sims 2, but the ghosts I've seen there are all either red or white, unless I missed something.)
