  • It's interesting what Country has evolved into

  • heck yeah.

  • Awesome music. Pure delight. Roy sang it to perfection for over 50 years.

  • 1 dislike??? who could NOT like this classic ??? I wish there was a "LOVE" button. I grew up hearing this song and what memories it brings back !! Wow !!!

  • @Cindybug57 it was probably a KU fan

  • OKOKOK...so I'm a Californian....but I feel American to the core when I hear this song and see this video...something that rarely happens here in CA....thanks....

  • Gotta love the accordion.

  • friggen love thus song and roy acuff

  • My grandpa, Roy Acuff, was Roy Acuff's 2nd or 3rd cousin!

  • @acoleen1 hes my great great uncle so you are a lier if he is then were realated

  • My grandpa (Roy Acuff)'s 2nd cousin... :-)

  • As an unashamedly True Brit' l don't have a natural affiliation for all things American. But l have to admit, they made the best damned locomotives ever seen on the tracks and this one is my favourite. lt's almost certainly UP Challenger 3985 and a short clip of a 21 minute video shown elsewhere on the tube and well worth a visit. Nice to know that this one at least will never see a breakers yard. lt's too famous now for that to happen...thank god.

  • @crankbv1 Yes after a while I knew it looked familiar. That was one camera run whom ever it was who shot this video managed to get of that train running along like that. It is amazing to see how fast all that gear is moving on the drive mechanisims.

  • @gragor11 Yep..it's impressive right enough. For the full run click in U P Challenger then look up the video timed at 21:17. incidentally, there doesn't seem to be a definitive version of Warbash Cannonball...every artist seems to use different words. Not that it matters.

  • just find out this is my great great uncle from my grandma!!!!

  • Only one engine that can be..... thats ol' 3985!! she's still operating on the Union Pacific line along with 844, still not retired and never will be!

  • my daddy worked for scl railroad for 43 yrs he loved Mr roy acuff singing this song it makes me cry when i hear it but i love it thanks MR ROY ACCUFF

  • This is a UP Challenger 2 6 6 4 and to add...the video isnt that old....They didnt have "zoom" back then LOL

  • @dgltowing Well we were thinking that this segment was cut from that 21 min video of 3985. But the quality is poor and, who knows, if 2664 is a Challenger locomotive also then it might be hard to tell which one exactly it is as 3985 is also a Challenger.

here is some text I cribbed from wikipedia. Well it's too long to post here so just look up "union pacific challenger' at wikipedia to get the short and dirty on the locomotive.

    great video and great song.

  • This is a UP Challenger 2 6 6 4

  • Glad to see this one back on YT! Thanks

  • My personal favourite video clip on Youtube. Daddy Klaxton himself.

  • Im not a train nut,but im willing to bet that if i saw that old bird belching out that smoke and hauling ass. They woulda had to pick my jaw up off the ground.Love the song and video.Makes me think of my grandpa. Its been 2 years since he has been gone and i still see him in my dreams every now and then. This was one of his favorite songs.

  • @35hankypanky Yes, trackside at speed, you WILL FEEL the old girl fly by. Do it if one of remaining operational restored locomotives is in your area.

  • i believe this engine was one of the "big boys". one of about 25. built to do the job of two regular engines. ----talk about powerful.

  • @56BIGM You bet. from wikipedia Union Pacific Challenger

Built between 1936 and 1943, the Challengers were nearly 122 feet long and weighed more than one million pounds. Articulated like their big brother, the Union Pacific Big Boy, the Challengers had a 4-6-6-4 wheel arrangement. ...with a 4-6-6-4 wheel arrangement ....Two examples survive today: Union Pacific 3985, used for excursion services by Union Pacific and Union Pacific 3977, on static display in North Platte, NE.
