@DanceTheSpears eventually, through established principles, one comes to this epiphany on their own. I believe that this is the intention of Phil Hine though I have never read his book. Ultimately, despite how much you protest about organized methods it will fall on deaf ears. It is no fault of the practitioner, and it is no cause for frustration on your part. The cool flowing stream of patience is equally as important as the fire that you can spark within your heart.

Typically an unaltered state is a "normal sober" state...

What I've found in my personal works is that intent is the key factor behind all magick, everything else is simply a tool that is employed to focus one's intent. In essence, this means that Magick in itself can be cast solely through ones thoughts and actions. However, such an employment requires a great demand from the user to be deeply in touch all aspects of the universe.
