Interesting rant.....seriously...I agree in principle with a lot of what you said and its refreshing to hear it....the only thing is when you gotta support/provide for others financially, it can be hard to ditch in jobs to pursue something that may well put your finances in jeopardy...? any thoughts??
Click on my name, to see my videos of how, I'm finally quitting my job. This is by far the easiest way to make money online, i have ever found! This defiantly Works, See the proof on my Videos.
I understand what he's saying but it's so unrealistic.. Do NOT quit your job just look for one that allows you to do the things that are important to you and then when you find one quit you present job.. Just make a transition it's not a good idea to just quit your job off especially when there are so many jobless people nowadays jobs are very hard to come by and you could be jobless for a very long time
yeah good advice. i mysel quitted from a job that i hated almost 2 years ago and im unemployed since then. Im from Spain and unemploiment is a big problem. I wish i didnt quit, now im completely screwed.
I quit a job I hated 8 years ago to pursue my Personal Training career. Before I worked 12 hour days and nights in a shitty factory trying to support a young child and wife. I made pretty good money there but like Elliot said in the video; the job didn't support my values. Initially I took a 50% pay cut to work as a Gym Instructor; in the end I knew I'd survive. Now 8 years later I have my own training gym and making a good living doing what I love and value. Elliott is spot on.
so what if you don't know what your values are, how are you supposed to figure that out? Personally I'm constantly changing and things that were really interesting last year seem completely boring now so how would I go about finding something that I can stick with?
Change from your current job to becoming a trainer or another fitness professional. Be sure that you can earn enough money or maybe more than enough to live well and to save money for the future. I wish you well.
No way, do not quit yr job. Just go to a 24 hr gym and restructure your workouts if that is important to you. You quit yr job in this recession you may not find another job for a while, and with no money how are you gonna train. Thought this was bad advice but I still enjoy the videos.
I just subscribed to this channel, but months ago my job caused me so much stress I couldn't train, my sleep patterns were constantly changing, I was like Elliot said "I became an animal" I lost focus on what was important. I quit my job, and don't regret it for one second. Yes you have to make some sacrifices, but you got to take that first step in fear, but have the faith that your feet will be firmly planted. Live For Yourself and Stick To What You Believe In!!! You Da Man Elliot!!!!
This isn't rocket science. DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND WORK AROUND THAT.
You don't have to take this verbatim.
At the gym the other day I met a 30 something year old guy. Ironman. He was on his lunch break to swim a solid 55minute 3k. His lunch break was at 2pm. His hours are later to miss the normal lunch gym rush and he leaves later at night. He told his employers, "I LOVE TO TRAIN FOR IRONMAN, IT IS MY FIRST LOVE. CAN YOU WORK AROUND THAT?"
I love your videos, but I don't agree with this. I have a part time job and full time student, my hours are always different, it's time management. without my job, I would lose my home, seeing as im in the highest unomployed city in Canada, it's the only thing paying my bills for Tuna, Whey,Chicken, and all that stuff. If I quit my job, my diet would be affected, and I probably would stop training because dieting is 90% of your look.
That's crazy advice, it may take more than a month to get around to doing what you want to do and getting paid for it, shit doesn't happen over night.
Yo Elliot this is deep! This is life changing. This takes balls but it liberating! This is a very down to earth way of understanding some biblical concepts ive heard all my life. Good shit im putting in my two weeks notice monday.
People will mis-perceive this video as telling people not to pay their bills. But all your saying is to find a way to put your passion before your survival, but to still do both.
You're a very interesting dude Elliot. Although I sometimes don't agree 100% with your philosophy, you are consistently inspiring and I respect you immensely for your diverse and well-thought viewpoints. It's clear by the way you explain yourself that you have actually thought long and hard about what you believe and it's not some bullshit you made up to sound deep. Keep on brotha.
I quit my job 4 years ago! Never regret single day! Bills didn't get paid at first, tough and all, but better to be happy and poor than rich and unhappy. I'm working now the dream job I wanted! And training as I wanted. Yay! I'm 100% on same page with Elliot on this!
i wish people like elliot could come to schools and colleges everywhere in the world and inspire people to get into health and fitness, it just has the capacity to make everyones life better
That was pure fucking genius! I have thought the same thing for a long time but to hear you say it and in the way you said it just cemented my own beliefs. I was thinking about giving up my job at a gym for a boring job, with 12 hour shifts, JUST FOR MORE MONEY!! Why do we give in to the pressures of society and let others tell us how to live our own lives?
THANK YOU......................Now can you just tell my girlfriend and mother the same so they can understand where i am coming from!! HAHA
7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey recommends, also to live from The Core that never changes, regardless of conditions and circumstances. I truly believe in that principle, which doesn't make it easy to apply to one's life but it is the way to go. Thank you, Elliott!
Many in the fitness industry have a hard time fitting in their own personal workouts because they spend so much time training others, studying their field, Facebooking, making YT videos, etc, so should they also quit their job to train?
Damn straight! I just started to revolve my life around working out and staying healthy in general and things are getting better already. Studying and working is becoming easier, because I feel fit, strong, healthy and confident and therefore ready to FIGHT FOR IT!
The best thing would be to look for a new job. It is a lot easier to find a job while you already have one. I have been unemployed for 3 months now, despite having a masters degree, and its not getting any better. After you find a more suitable job, then you can train.
I didn't read all the comments or watched all of the video but the guy asking the question needs to stop whinning and start training when he can i hate that stupid oh i didn't feel like going bs that means you really dont want to get stronger or bigger or faster and you are propably the same guy that stands around the gym and complain and make excuses for still benching or lifting the same you did in high school. so no don't quit your job you idiot just stop being a pussy and go to the gym.
Yo elliot! Great video man i love the perspective you have on various topics and your delivery of information. Im a long time subscriber, and i hope to get a good question for you to answer, something regarding track and field... Take care, and keep the videos coming!
man, i wish i could follow your advice. im currently a graduate with a dead end retail job at primark whilst looking for a graduate level business orientated job which i have absolutely no interest in. i would love to live my life without this but fact is i need money and want a life that at least a moderate amount of income can sustain. only way it seems i can achieve this is by doing the things i hate since the things i love will give no way of earning me money.
He's not going to build much muscle when he can train his ass off whenever he wants but can't afford the protein to feed his muscles, because he has not paycheck. Are you endorsing he rob people on his free time or get on the government dole?
look my ex trainer/friend he told me over and over that if the president finds time then so can i. this was over 3 years ago. i always gain weight whenever i give up.
i am telling u guys--more the half the jobs will mess with your health--especially the well paying ones. i think u have to be disciplined enough to find time. it is tough because i have been having a very hard time doing that.
um well I don't think setting yourself up to basically be in a position of homelessness in a hurry is a good idea either. You have to makes the moves to be where you want to be in a responsible manner.
So quality of life is much less important than satisfaction of desire? It's a give and take world, plot and plant and make educated moves, don't go blind into anything, ever.
I had quit my job 3 months ago, to have time to practise martial arts and physical condition, at the moment i don't have money but I don't give a damn thing! thanks for the video man, it's good to know that i'm not the only one!
He didn't say to quit working or quit making money; he told the dude to quit his job cause it's interfering with his training. The guy still wants to train. There's other jobs out there that won't interfer with a persons training.
At first I was like WTF is he talking about?! Quit your job, is he normal? But as he was talking I've realized Elliot made some great points. I agree on many things you've said in this video, but I think that the solution is somewhere half way. If he quits his job he won't be able to train. He won't be able to by proper groceries, supplements, even AAS, or to have nice bed to rest for eight hours, and he won't pay the gym membership. I think he needs to find another job and reorganize his time.
Let's see how you can afford a gym membership when you are broke and homeless without a job. This is really stupid advice, Elliot. He needs better time management not to quit his job.
Got a question: I've been lifting since August without a week rest. I'm considering taking 2 weeks off now, not because of a specific injury or something just to get my body some rest. Do you ever take weeks off?
You made a lot of good points...and I agree with you on the dedication to workouts (I speak from experience)...However, not everybody seeking tips/advice or interested in exercising is going to be as dedicated as you, me, and the typical "gym rat"...This video is not a realistic resource and is not a "one size fits all"...If you want more subscribers and want to reach out to more people,I'd suggest taking into consideration the fact that people have lives outside the gym...
@rocksvids08 This applies to what you're values are and not specifically training. Whether you love construction, mechanics or whatever. If you love accounting then make it happen man ; )
@slaveescaping technically speaking, yes....however, we're on a fitness youtube channel, not a values/motivational channel...and a big percentage of the viewers on here are here to seek fitness tips (and this particular video, as many good points as it contains, is not something I would forward, share, or recommend that others see if they are seeking fitness info)...
@rocksvids08 I understand what you mean for sure man, buuuuuut Eliot's just being hemself and keepin it real. Eliot does his thing his way. Is it for everybody? well...nothing is for "everybody". Cheers man!
@slaveescaping Thanks for your feedback...Yes, Elliot, you, and I are all entitled to our opinion and to be ourselves...This video is not the "be all, end all" for fitness advice...If people don't agree with it, or don't like it for whatever reason, then they simply need to click away and view the ever-growing number of fitness videos & advice on youtube...Peace...
@rocksvids08 yeah i agree, its becuase you (elliot) have a wife kids etc dosent mean you have the right to tell someone to do something like that. Unless they are striving to be a professional athlete then yes: victory without sacrifice. But telling someone to quit there job in this current economic crisis to lift a barbell with dollar bills on it is a bit surreal. I'll see you on the street corner bar curling with a hat on the sidewalk lol
@rocksvids08 I think "Make your values/passions your top priority" transcends the gym. If you're not spending more time doing what you love (whether it be working out, painting houses or smacking babies) than you spend working a job that you hate you are essentially a slave to someones else's values.
@gypsieladie True...but let's be real here...What percentage of the population actually will stop "being a slave" to follow their values?...Not many...So I think its best to work around your current schedule, make sacrifices, and find a way to follow your passion (whatever that is) than to flat out quit your job...I have several friends (musicians, artists, DJ's, etc...) who hate their '9 to 5' job yet they find a way to still have the best of both worlds...
@rocksvids08 those other people are able to take this informtion and apply it to their own lives though. I don't think he means to say that everyone's core belief is training and lifting weights or whatever. he's saying if your survival clashes with what you love to do, be it lifting weights or riding bikes or playing guitar, then you become nothing more than an animal.
@captainsack25 Absolutely...there are still several things in this video that someone can walk away with and take with them for their day-to-day living...However, how realistic is it to tell someone to quit their job over a passion of theirs? (especially in these economic times)...I think it is more realistic to find ways and make sacrifices within your current work schedule for doing what you love than to totally just quit your job...I speak from experience...
@rocksvids08 i dont think that was his point. hes saying do what you want to do, whether that may be this or that... going to the gym or anything else he likes to do. youre supposed to love what you do for a living, and by the sounds of it he would be happier with a different job.
@rocksvids08 its not about working out, its about live life for what you think and value, not to try and live up to societies standers, basically he's saying do what you love
@bonesawII I don't have one I'm 19 and play football for u idaho vandals. but i'm just saying if you have a family like kids and a wife you should put them before your training if need be! other than that get in the gym and do work! :)
I've been trying to follow this advice, but my problem is that I don't know what I want. It might just be that everything I think I would like to do, I just think about the worst case scenario, but I'm not sure. I just turned 20 years old, I finished high school, I'll start looking for work soon, and I have no clue what I want to do with my life.
my advice--TRAIN asmuch as you can. EAT perfectly if you do not have the time and switch. GOD knows HOW hard it has been for me to get a job and I always wanted to HAVE my own business for which I watched other ppl build their's from the ground up. But stuff happens in life where we loose control.
elliot I agree--the rest is superficial but we do not want ppl to get kicked out for not paying rent. i am the same way. i rather USE my creativity to CREATE my own reality but please get another job and then quit. no doubt values are important!!
well putting food on the table is crucial and i think that it is important to be financially independent. so u should not quit if u will end up on the street because no one will be there for u. Just get another job. some jobs do make ppl unhealthy. that is also very true.
watching this video again to see if I saw a different message. Nope, still think this is bad advice. I love everything else you say, but this is a little to dogmatic.
Awesoome video. Most people missed the point though. His message is about doing what you want to do. And the expensive jeans ihpone bit was awesome, most people spend WAY too much fucking money on useless aesthetic shit, then complain about bills. Elliots message is if your training is your number 1 thing, then thats what you should focus on. For those of you dissing him, training clearly isn't your number 1 thing, so don't say anything.
quit your job so you cant afford the gym anymore XD common Elliot lets get serious now.. I get the message and the idea, but quitting your job is just not being realistic.
No doubt you are fuckin' right ! My job is stealing energy and strength/muscle gains from me all the time , but i have to work ,cause otherwise i would not have anything to eat , let alone high protein / good fats / good carbs bodybuilding food ! We are all slaves more or less ...
@ninjaskills24 This has nothing to do with work OR pleasure. Those are two retardedly vague and relative words to describe what's basically your whole outlook on life.
OMG thank you:D You should be around when this happened to me! everybody was against me when I quitted a job that drained me from all that was me. This vid make me feel much better abbout my choice of life before a lifeless life with pretty clothes and iphones:D
but how do you afford a gym membership without money lol? This is a bit unrealistic what you're saying. You can still reach gym goals even if you have a high pressure job.
When you can make a living doing what you love to do or whats based on your own personal values, usually that's an athlete, entrepreneur or some one who got into a particular career that they love. You arent going to stay in school for ever. going to school should be based on your values.
I was wondering if you could make a American Football workout for WR's. Since I know you have played and your competences with building your body are phenomenal you are the right person to ask! I would really appreciate it.
all sounds rather fruity.....

Yo elliot! Great video man i love the perspective you have on various topics and your delivery of information. Im a long time subscriber, and i hope to get a good question for you to answer, something regarding track and field... Take care, and keep the videos coming!

man, i wish i could follow your advice. im currently a graduate with a dead end retail job at primark whilst looking for a graduate level business orientated job which i have absolutely no interest in. i would love to live my life without this but fact is i need money and want a life that at least a moderate amount of income can sustain. only way it seems i can achieve this is by doing the things i hate since the things i love will give no way of earning me money.

i am telling u guys--more the half the jobs will mess with your health--especially the well paying ones. i think u have to be disciplined enough to find time. it is tough because i have been having a very hard time doing that.

um well I don't think setting yourself up to basically be in a position of homelessness in a hurry is a good idea either. You have to makes the moves to be where you want to be in a responsible manner.

He didn't say to quit working or quit making money; he told the dude to quit his job cause it's interfering with his training. The guy still wants to train. There's other jobs out there that won't interfer with a persons training.

SindreAadnanes 1 month ago
At first I was like WTF is he talking about?! Quit your job, is he normal? But as he was talking I've realized Elliot made some great points. I agree on many things you've said in this video, but I think that the solution is somewhere half way. If he quits his job he won't be able to train. He won't be able to by proper groceries, supplements, even AAS, or to have nice bed to rest for eight hours, and he won't pay the gym membership. I think he needs to find another job and reorganize his time.

Elliot why don't you start a school of "life" or something :) I rather listen to you than some priest !

Let's see how you can afford a gym membership when you are broke and homeless without a job. This is really stupid advice, Elliot. He needs better time management not to quit his job.
MaicoMoon 1 month ago
yo Elliot,
Got a question: I've been lifting since August without a week rest. I'm considering taking 2 weeks off now, not because of a specific injury or something just to get my body some rest. Do you ever take weeks off?
ListonFrazier 1 month ago in playlist Yo Elliott!
You made a lot of good points...and I agree with you on the dedication to workouts (I speak from experience)...However, not everybody seeking tips/advice or interested in exercising is going to be as dedicated as you, me, and the typical "gym rat"...This video is not a realistic resource and is not a "one size fits all"...If you want more subscribers and want to reach out to more people,I'd suggest taking into consideration the fact that people have lives outside the gym...
rocksvids08 1 month ago 17
@rocksvids08 This applies to what you're values are and not specifically training. Whether you love construction, mechanics or whatever. If you love accounting then make it happen man ; )
slaveescaping 1 month ago
@slaveescaping technically speaking, yes....however, we're on a fitness youtube channel, not a values/motivational channel...and a big percentage of the viewers on here are here to seek fitness tips (and this particular video, as many good points as it contains, is not something I would forward, share, or recommend that others see if they are seeking fitness info)...
rocksvids08 1 month ago
@rocksvids08 I understand what you mean for sure man, buuuuuut Eliot's just being hemself and keepin it real. Eliot does his thing his way. Is it for everybody? well...nothing is for "everybody". Cheers man!
slaveescaping 1 month ago
@slaveescaping Thanks for your feedback...Yes, Elliot, you, and I are all entitled to our opinion and to be ourselves...This video is not the "be all, end all" for fitness advice...If people don't agree with it, or don't like it for whatever reason, then they simply need to click away and view the ever-growing number of fitness videos & advice on youtube...Peace...
rocksvids08 1 month ago
@rocksvids08 yeah i agree, its becuase you (elliot) have a wife kids etc dosent mean you have the right to tell someone to do something like that. Unless they are striving to be a professional athlete then yes: victory without sacrifice. But telling someone to quit there job in this current economic crisis to lift a barbell with dollar bills on it is a bit surreal. I'll see you on the street corner bar curling with a hat on the sidewalk lol
mm4junkie 1 month ago
@rocksvids08 I think "Make your values/passions your top priority" transcends the gym. If you're not spending more time doing what you love (whether it be working out, painting houses or smacking babies) than you spend working a job that you hate you are essentially a slave to someones else's values.
gypsieladie 1 month ago
@gypsieladie True...but let's be real here...What percentage of the population actually will stop "being a slave" to follow their values?...Not many...So I think its best to work around your current schedule, make sacrifices, and find a way to follow your passion (whatever that is) than to flat out quit your job...I have several friends (musicians, artists, DJ's, etc...) who hate their '9 to 5' job yet they find a way to still have the best of both worlds...
rocksvids08 1 month ago
@rocksvids08 those other people are able to take this informtion and apply it to their own lives though. I don't think he means to say that everyone's core belief is training and lifting weights or whatever. he's saying if your survival clashes with what you love to do, be it lifting weights or riding bikes or playing guitar, then you become nothing more than an animal.
captainsack25 1 month ago
@captainsack25 Absolutely...there are still several things in this video that someone can walk away with and take with them for their day-to-day living...However, how realistic is it to tell someone to quit their job over a passion of theirs? (especially in these economic times)...I think it is more realistic to find ways and make sacrifices within your current work schedule for doing what you love than to totally just quit your job...I speak from experience...

@rocksvids08 or not
ImNotAsGoodAsDevin 1 month ago
@rocksvids08 i dont think that was his point. hes saying do what you want to do, whether that may be this or that... going to the gym or anything else he likes to do. youre supposed to love what you do for a living, and by the sounds of it he would be happier with a different job.
anticorporate007 1 month ago in playlist Yo Elliott!
@rocksvids08 its not about working out, its about live life for what you think and value, not to try and live up to societies standers, basically he's saying do what you love

But stuff happens in life where we loose control.

one thing is true--the stronger you are the more successful you will be.
sairaj1 1 month ago
elliot I agree--the rest is superficial but we do not want ppl to get kicked out for not paying rent. i am the same way. i rather USE my creativity to CREATE my own reality but please get another job and then quit. no doubt values are important!!
sairaj1 1 month ago
well putting food on the table is crucial and i think that it is important to be financially independent. so u should not quit if u will end up on the street because no one will be there for u. Just get another job. some jobs do make ppl unhealthy. that is also very true.

no wonder ppl are overweight in corporate america. well do NOT quit TILL you have a NEW job. lol

watching this video again to see if I saw a different message. Nope, still think this is bad advice. I love everything else you say, but this is a little to dogmatic.
WTFDidYouSay2me 1 month ago 3
Awesoome video. Most people missed the point though. His message is about doing what you want to do. And the expensive jeans ihpone bit was awesome, most people spend WAY too much fucking money on useless aesthetic shit, then complain about bills. Elliots message is if your training is your number 1 thing, then thats what you should focus on. For those of you dissing him, training clearly isn't your number 1 thing, so don't say anything.

When you can make a living doing what you love to do or whats based on your own personal values, usually that's an athlete, entrepreneur or some one who got into a particular career that they love. You arent going to stay in school for ever. going to school should be based on your values.
