When you hear a story like this it sort of makes you wonder what ever happened to the poor girl the song was based on, if she ever really knew the song on the radio was about her, what she spent the money he gave her on...geez this story could make a heck of movie of the week for a cable network wouldn't it?
@Texasjim2007 Good point. Maybe she needed the money to buy food for her hungry dog or her poor disabled mother...??? Or maybe her mean older sister stole it from her, or maybe she invested it in the windshield cleaning business and became a millionaire...??? Little girl in tattered clothes, if you are out there, we want to know what became of you.
If I were bob gaudio I would have taken her home to have as a child so she could have had a home and something to eat she seems homeless so she might not get to eat much
It's not the "pure" sound I've had embedded in my brain (which of course comes from listening to the original recording all these decades), but wow....Frankie still is as smooth as silk, & I admit, the background vocals captured the richness of the beautiful close harmonies that for me, is the essence that makes a classic like this complete. The parts where they(b/u vocals) sing "hand me down...." & on. .... "sad rag doll.....if could...."
....truly......golden oldies...thanks for posting.
I love how Frankie Valli still sings these songs. His voice may not be able to reach its soaring heights anymore, but the way he changes the key keeps it amazing.
I think thats my most favorite song they sang...I have seen the Jersey Boys in New York.... and had the great oppertunity to see Frankie Valli this summer here in Kansas Ctiy---and he is still going at 76----thats talent--sing it man!!!!!!!
I used to play this song inside our car when all our 4 wonderful kids were growing up in Saudi Arabia. I didn;t know then how this song was written until I stumbled into this YouTube version of "Rag Doll". Yuka Sato's terrific performance on the ice really brought more life to this song!
Whenever I come to a stop in any of the traffic lights in Manila, this song always comes into my mind. I don't believe in handouts, however, I do believe in helping the needy...
What a glorious majestic song. Bob Gaudio bounced around trying to get this song. Dawn, Walk Like A Man, etc. were just failed attempts to reach this crescendo of sorrow and joy.
Truly marvelous! Thank you, Bob Gaudio, and thank you, Frankie Valli. And Yuka Sato, beautiful and fluid on the ice! Thank you, Yuka. I listened to Rag Doll as a teenager, and now I'm considerably older than that and that song still gets me. Again, thanks to all who made this possible.
I don't know about anybody else but this song always leaves a lump in my throat when hearing it. Can't understand just why it does but I love it just the same!!
wow. frankie still goin strong. Love the original 4 seasons and this version has great harmony as well. Plus a amazing show with a beautiful skater. Very well done.
I have spent alot of time with Frankie Valli. He is a class act, a true gentlemen and always accessible to fans. Some of his former band members were not the most motivated people in the world to say the least!
Personally I think Walk Like A Man is the best Seasons song, but Frankie and these guys did an awesome job here - 40+ years later and sounds so close to the original record, it's amazing. Kudos
Frankie and Yuka rock this song! Great backup, too, Frankie. I wanna see "Jersey Boys," but it don't have Frankie, so I'll pass, I think. Thanks, Bob, for writing that song. Brings me back to the beach when I was a lil' kid, and yes, I did wear some hand-me-downs (didn't we all?).
Just can't say enough praises for this current lineup of background singers and musicians that perform these classic
4 Seasons hits to the tee. And of course Mr. Frankie V. sounds pretty damn good too, after all of these years. He and those original Jersey Boys gave us so much great music .
this has got to be one of the most remarkable records i have ever seen or heard, not because of frankie, but the gifted singing, musical composition, the coriography from the band members, and the special skating from Yuka Sato, you are watching true Magic !!
ummm if you guys think hes lost it and hes not hitting the high notes he is. Also go watch sherry from this concert.. idiots thanks and let me know when you see him live cause when you do you will appreciate him. Stop talking shit you cant sing for your life.. thanks
He is great as a singer and I have most of the Seasons music. However, Frankie Valli is a loser as a father. He's been married and divorced three times with his children always sitting and waiting at home for him to show up.
hey allumst get beck to your will young etc and save space for the gifed whom are not tone deaf...frankie never had to scream and shout coz hes got a soulful voice...he may of mellowed his tone a bit but 75 and still a legend...and this is LIVE..who do you listen too?...never mind couldnt put up you going through your spice girl and gareth gate collection.....thanks scar but please organise a kiddie room, cheers mate
This Guy what do you say, in my local pub a couple of weeks ago, and this show caught my eye, on sat, Could not hear it, as pub to busy, Thanks. skarld

Great Talented man Frankie was/is but off stage is the biggest arrogant ahole you'd never want to meet.

Ask some of his former band members, most of them even said he was a cluster of a human with a ego and shitty attitude.
