  • Quiet Down? No Thank you, its good the way it is

  • yeah right maybe sometime or somewhere impreza wrx sti will not be a loud car :)

  • $31,000?!

Negotiate the price of an STi down to $33,500!

  • lol 2.5 ltr 250 soming my dad is first gen wrx is 2.0 and is 284bhp stock wtf going on there

  • @theshaslaman really? to my knowledge the 02 and 03 wrx is rated at 227 bhp stock on their 2 liter. the 2011 model is 265bhp stock and the STi is 305bhp stock.

  • @ninjaseven1 my dad hasn't got the 02 03 wrx he has the 2000 import wich the stock wrx is 284bhp

  • @theshaslaman in the uk

  • Stock exhaust is so tame tbh... In fact, I feel it's not even loud enough...

  • Fucking really? The exhaust is too loud? You bought a god damn WRX, what the hell are you going to expect. You're just making yourself sound like an ignorant asshole by saying that it goes fast, but you know what, it might be on the loud side. Well if you buy that car you know what you're getting into in the first place, so if you don't like an amazing exhaust sound like the WRX, then go buy a nice, cheap "family car," and maybe that'll suit you well.

  • Subaru engineers. Don't listen to this guy. The exhaust is amazing! When you start this bad boy up, you know it's something special. I dont want to drive a camry. This guy would probably complain about the ferrari f-430 exhaust. Seriously, Subaru, keep up the good work!! Love the car.

  • It looks to sporty for my taste. And the loud exhaust would terrify my 2 pooches. And look at the seats , they look to race type for me I don't like it when they hug you. Lol psykke !!!!!

  • @xbxspartan impreza hatchback would be a better choice for you

  • Steve, I quit listening to you talk when you started complaining about the exhaust. SMH

  • Help me sti or wrx?

  • I have a 09 wrx and Love it. I just ordered new exhaust to make it have a louder deeper sound.(invidia q300). This guy has no clue who's actually driving these beast.

  • if you don't like the sound get an standard impreza

  • @09victorc

I have an 05 WRX and i never had a problem with leaks. I am already pushing 150K..

I also have a 09 forester XT with 50K an shows no signs what so ever of leaks..

My best friend is a Subaru technician and he has never told me of a problems that dealt with leaking gaskets..!

  • "make well adjusted adults uneasy?" That means turds with no love of motorsports buying a turbo charged sports car. WTF?! Why? Why would someone buy a car they don't like? You stupid, stfu!

  • MY PRIUS IS TOO QUIET!!!

  • @09victoryrc I have 210k miles on my factory head gasket, no oil leaks

  • I bet he'd complain about the "noise" if he tested a lambo. Complaining about noise on a sports car, what the hell.

  • Complaints of noise ?? hahah hell no my 2009 hatch WRX is quiets as shit and that's why i ordered a cat back exhaust i want to hear that damn rumble !!

  • one fault and you noobs criticise him to hell. learn how to argument please. great video thanks :)

  • Comment removed

  • its too loud?! if anything make it louder!!!

  • noise.Noise!!? the wrx is one of the quietest stock sporty cars ive ever heard, if anything it needs to be louder.

  • Fan de SUBARU <3

  • YOU FORGOT to mention its" normal" for the head gaskets to leak on the boxer engine, just ask any mechanic or look on you tube yourself, guy next door from me has a 2009 outback without the turbo and the gaskets are leaking, and it started with a bad thermostat, only has 40,000 miles.these are common problems for the boxer engine and this is bullshit !... Add a turbo and it should be a even bigger mess !

  • @09victoryrc

Stop using full synthetic then !!

I live in very hot weather all year round my 2009 and my buddy's 2004 is not leaking any oil

  • @SubaruWRXtreme The only one who mentioned synthetic oil is you. He doesnt service the car himself ,he has the dealer do it.And to correct you AGAIN, the dealer says its common for the head gaskets to leak on the boxer engine,so you can take it up with the dealer when it does happen on yours, and it will it sounds like,Just look around on this very site and you can see many movies on the defective head gaskets. Hope that helps.

  • @09victoryrc

I work at the dealership and when the WRXs come in for service i check them out to see the mods and stuff to give me ideas on my car.

When the dealership does it you don't know if they really put synthetic in the car, I don't use full synthetic because i know it can cause some problems because it gets into everything and everywhere just one quart of it is enough.

I don't have North American Subaru though these are Japanese exports but LHD of course but still EJ255

  • Straight Pipes are Gayness! Loud Boxer Rumble FTW!

  • The wheels are wrapped tightly in Dunlap rubber. Thats the only way I like my tires wrapped- TIGHTLY !

  • If I bought one of these first thing I'll do it get rid of the quad pipe exhaust and get a single pipe 3 or 4 inch exhaust to reduce weight.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't think there has been one person on this earth that has bought a stock WRX and said "Its too loud" like a whiny bitch. Every person I know said the equal length headers Subaru put on the new WRX's and Sti's ruined the "Boxer Rumble." This car obviously isn't for you if you don't like the Boxer Rumble. Don't do a review on a sports car it you're expecting it to not be loud.

  • @FeelinGipper I put on tomei ELs in my 03 wrx and it sounds awesome! specially when you open it up! I also have a 16g turbo and sti shortblock

  • @Riggro yeah the 02 and 03 wrx's I think have the best subie rumble. I have a 2002 WRX with custom made headers and BPM turbo-back exhaust. check it out on my channel!

  • @kanaric

He's talking about that because the car "can" also be a family car, not just a sports car...

  • Straight pipes!!!! I wanna hear that boxer all day

  • one of the best things about subaru wrx's and sti's is the noise....

i love this car..and the noise is fanatastic...could be a bit louder i'd say when idle....

but when it gets going...say no more!!

  • i would probably get a lot of speeding tickets with this

  • The stock noise from a WRX is literally NOTHING.

  • I'm saving up for one, lets hope Subaru doesn't fuck em up by the time i get that much money.

  • Is there any version of the WRX with an automatic gearbox?

  • @MrCrazypb yes. in previous years. but not anymore!

  • My 350z is louder than this car. Really they complain about that? These people should not be reviewing cars.

  • @kanaric and complaining about premium gas, lol. REALLY?

  • if its to loud your too old

  • just as long as i can afford one with a sunroof when i get back to the states im good!

  • wrx looks fresh!

  • I would like to see how the reviewer would compare the noise level of the stock 2011 limited to my 2010 Premium sedan with N1 exhaust, catted DP and drop-in panel filter with protune :) I did add an oval resonator though. The drone without it was absolutely atrocious on the interstate!

  • The Wildely wide wideness beautifully excentuates the widely accepted wider body profile!!

  • Steve, your the reason most cars on the road today suck and are boring, you love the car through the whole video, then you say its too loud at the end. With that kind of comment you dont deserve to be commenting on the car. If someone buys a WRX they want the noise, I say make it louder! The is an enthusiasts car. If you want something quiet and comfortable, buy a frickin Camry. Do us all a favor, dont make anymore videos and leave that to experts like Jeremy Clarkson.

  • @Gbud777 Cannot agree any more. Im a DJ and I own a WRX. I replaced the Head Unit because subaru head units have audio quality compared to my anus. But even with a new jvc head unit with amazing sound I CANNOT resist turning it off and listening to that exhaust! Its not a ricer exhaust, its JUST right!

  • @Gbud777

There's no perfect car; the Subaru Impreza WRX fits a niche market -- it's esentually a street Rallye Car with its only competition being the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

  • @Gbud777

no, buy an audi rs4 or bmw m3 instead. nothing wrong prodding subaru into making the sti more like those cars (eg performant AND quiet and comfortable).

  • @Gbud777 I don't agree with his statement either, but you need to realize his target audience you retard.. he did this piece for yahoo autos, and nobody but soccer moms use that as their reference point for auto information.

  • Is that the factory exhaust or spt? Id love to know

  • I find it hilarious that people think it's "Too Loud". If you can't appreciate the sound of the boxer engine with a conservative sports muffler get away from sports cars. Why hide it when it sounds so good? It's not loud, only a pleasant rumble... Get a turbo back race exhaust and we'll talk loud. If you need to 'worry' about the family get a minivan. Also, you get a discount on insurance for having 4 doors and nobody needs to 'climb in'.

  • Who complains about an awesome WRX exhuaust note when doing a review of this car? It's a WRX, soccer moms weren't buying this car anyway. ROFL!

  • i think these cars a pretty good deals. for only 25k, you can get a turbocharged car that can do 0-60 in 5.5 secs, sport tuned suspension, good looks, nice 6 speaker stereo, and its reliable. i dont see how anyone would want to buy anything else for 25k

  • @stevehammes If you like a quiet 4-door why not buy a stock impreza and put the money you didn't spend towards your kids college funds?

  • @Marshmallowrex What would you get for this price range? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I just want to know what you think is faster than the sti's and wrx's for the same price haha

  • the color of this car is anything but masculine

  • @snipa2silent77 How did you manage that?

You: "Sell me a 2012 WRX"

Dealer: "We're not even taking orders for them until the end of September, maybe not even that early."

You: "I AM A LINUX ADMIN, NOT A LOWLY BUS BOY! sudo sell me a WRX!"

    Dealer: "Okay."

  • slow shit

  • buy a fiesta if you don't like the exhaust cry baby

  • it's bad that the all new wrx looks too cute...it's just wrong for Subaru Impreza. i liked the bold, manly look of previous gen, this one's tail reminds me of toyota yaris! ugh

  • I freakin want one. I looked up the KBB value of my current car, which goes for 13,000 in excellent condition, and that would be one hell of a down payment for this beauty. I.......must.....have.....one......NOW!!!

  • BMW M rear valence

  • Bring back the 2004 look!

  • lol I agree, your complaining about the beautiful roar that the WRX produces? smh.

  • Exhaust too loud? Its a WRX not a Buick.

  • if u think wrxs are loud stock go drive a stock srt4 or modded one lol those bitches are loud. i own one i kno!

  • @stairmaster3001 why would we do that... there american and they suck

  • @Terreebad not really they are the fastest car u can buy for cheap

  • @stairmaster3001 I don't know many cars with AWD that go as well. While there are FF and FR vehicles, when the conditions are anything but dry, their performance is decreased at a higher rate than a WRX/STi. But you do make a relevent point. :-)

  • @lauriejamesmackeson well i kno that my srt4 is probably really unsafe in the rain/snow bad weather and thats why i avoid driving in those cond. but when its dry i let it rip

  • @baadshaah11 When are you driving at 1.5k rpm except at a traffic light? You don't like the exhaust note get a GTI.

  • best cars you can get that cost less than 30k

  • @stevehammes Did you find any turbo lag, if so, how bad was it?

  • @absolutehail the standard wrx starts at $24,000 then the premium is $26,000 then the limited is $27,000 and the sti is $32,000 and the limited sti is like $40,000. Even if u got all the options on the limited sti I don't think it would get to $65,000. ( prices r U.S dollars)

  • When I saw this car in person I was in love. Steve does it have any nice BPV sound at certain shifts? like over 3k? And where do u think the spool time is at what rpm? Don't know if I wanna be boosting at the massive amount of stop lights I have in the city. lol.

  • Bring back classic Subaru :(

  • you dont hear anything.. its like a regular car.. rookies..

  • @johnpark219 i just bought a '11 wrx a couple of weeks ago and the drone does get annoying sometimes but its not loud at all its more deep than anything else

  • dam my mom needs to upgrade two years to this car haha i love mine though because it is sexxxxxxaaaaaaay

  • does it suffer from torque steer like the MS3 does?

  • @bigbradford69 Torque steer occurs in powerful front wheel drive cars because 100% of the power is sent to the front wheels, the subaru is all wheel drive so the front tires are not overwhelmed by the power.

  • quiet down? Lol. Its a sports car. Would you tell that Porche or M3 to muffle its exhaust? Nope. Would you tell a Harley owner to sound like a scooter?. Nope. Sometimes I wonder about you guys..haha.

  • got a 2011 no point of getting a wrx or sti if you dont want that boxer sound,..... first time i heard a person complain...noob

    ...

  • I am glad i got a 2009 wrx. I am a older family man and do not care for the wide boy racer fenders. To me they just scream adolescence. Subaru has really gotten the wrx to close to sti,not everyone wants all the extras but still like awd and the power. They should have kept the too seperate in appearance.

  • Probably the nicest sedan ive ever seen

  • Good and fair reviewer for adults looking to buy one of these.

  • Getting old ? Quiet down with that turbo flat 6 racket youngsters ! Lol. Has Subaru ever fixed the brittle gears of the WRX transaxle yet ? My transaxle in my '06 WRX that I purchased new in Dallas broke TWICE in less than 18K miles and one year old before I traded it for another make of performance car, and I am on my third new car(BMW 3series coupe)since then. Subaru would not cover it under warranty($6K cost), so they lost a customer for life, or at least several new car purchases.

  • @raising1987 seriously ! when will they fix that glass wrx tranny?i want to get one but i like to get on the gas at times in my cars...not rough with them but i have fun and worry bout gettin shafted on subie warranty.i had several tranny issues with my 08 si(famous grinding 3rd gear),traded that for a 09 coby ss thats holdin up so far.not the prettiest but dam its solid.

  • @raising1987 Maybe you were just unlucky, because aren't Subarus some of the most reliable cars in the world? Also, BMW's are made of even more expensive parts and if something breaks, it'll never come cheap.

  • Getting old ? Quiet down with that turbo flat 6 racket youngsters ! Lol. Has Subaru ever fixed the brittle gears of the WRX transaxle yet ? • i hate how you can see the mufflers

  • why does the front have to be so uglyyyy

  • too bad they got so damn big

  • Wow for 31k I would instead go for a base STI

  • Play some techno like the guidos that own the car to tune it out

  • Im 15. and this is what I want to get for a first car. Id get the 5 door version though.. it looks better and im a surfer so its easy to put my board in.. at 25,500 base price this is a fucking awesome car, and only manual. I want to drive manual and it will be cool because id probably be the only one my age who would. My parents said i could maybe get one. they like the fact that it is 4wd, its comes in hatch, and its fairly cheap compared to other cars i have in mind. Only prob is it is fast.

  • Great video. The WRX was my second choice for my next car, but now it's my first.

  • If someone wants a Subaru with a 'nice, quiet ride', get the regular Impreza, or a Legacy. The WRX is not for everyone, this is a driver's car. The steering, clutch and shift lever do not have the light touch of a Honda or Toyota, but I wouldn't trade mine over that.

  • Fuck its ugly, why so much front overhang ?

  • its a performance car!!!!! you cant expect it to be quiet!!!

  • wrx limited $31G i rather spend few more grand to make the step up to sti. never buy the highest trim of wrx unless ur reallllllllllllly into wrx more than sti.

  • does this car still pull hard at high speeds

  • @sergsrt8 Depends on your definition of hard. But if it is anything like the 05WRX which I think it is, I know I can go from 0-110 in 3rd and pull all the way to 160 (if I ever had to) with such ease I don't stop to wonder 'when will it get there ;-)

  • I just bought the 2011 wrx limited - the navi. I think 2grand for the navi was overkill. So far...i'm lovin it.

  • Just bought a 2011-hatch base-model a few months ago. The car is a lot of fun and turns a few heads. As he does say, the car is a little loud, but it's sort of what you bought. The sound system could also use a little work as could the gearbox. Other than that, for what you pay, it's easily one of the best buys on the road--especially if you want AWD. Also, having one is a bit like a cult, other owners will always give a nod or a wave; you know what you bought and love it.

  • @jahnthesavage haha dude I totally know what your talking about, I got a 2011 wrx sedan a few weeks ago and every wrx and sti owner has waved lol. I love it

  • quiet down for what??? its stock and you can barely hear the exhaust note. you are not making very perfect review.

  • @johnpark219 After a four hour highway trip the drone from the exhaust is enough to drive you crazy.

  • @stevehammes Tough to have it both ways and keep it under 80k. My 2010 STI Special Edition has the catback exhaust and after long trips it might seem a little loud, but at the end of the day, I wouldn't trade it's purring for the quieter sound of a Honda Accord. I thought that sound in this review sounded really nice. To each his own...

  • Just turn up the radio! I love my new Rex. I don't find the exhaust droning at all, even on a 5 hour trip across country...

  • @stevehammes I'd have to respectfully disagree, mainly because I own an 11 wrx. Unless you mean the drone is enough to drive you crazy due to how quiet it is. That was actually one thing I was disappointed in, how damn quiet the car is.

  • @stevehammes If the exhaust drone bothers you then you haven't bought this car for what it was made for. You expected less and got more car than you can handle :)

  • @stevehammes I mean or you can just listen to the stereo of the car. That works too.

  • @stevehammes I'll trade you my '02 WRX if you can't handle it.

  • @stevehammes My 04 wrx wagon with a magnaflow exhaust is probably as loud if not louder. I've never gotten tired of the exhaust note. In fact I love. I think your review is a little too subjective rather than objective.

  • @stevehammes it is a performance car, you are supposed to hear the exhaust. enthusiasts would only wish to hear the exhaust even better, and a good percentage of people who would buy this type of car would prefer an aftermarket exhaust for an even louder sound. if you think the exhuast is too loud on a sports car, you shouldnt be reviewing them, period

  • @UNI04WRX Have any of you juveniles ever thought for one minute that if you're spending $30,000 on a FOUR-DOOR SEDAN that maybe, just maybe you're buying it for people other than just yourself? 18-year olds can't afford this car. 35-year olds can...with a job...an not living in their mom's basement. And perhaps they even have a wife and some kids, thus the 4-door purchase. If you like loud and fast and will never use the rear seats why not just buy a coupe?

  • @stevehammes Your wrong moron , im 19 and i have a 2012 wrx . I also live on my own its called having skills and making good money. Im a linux systems administrator not a bus boy at a resturante. Stop age discriminiting.

  • @snipa2silent77 What the fuck is a resturante? Yeah you've got skills alright.

  • @stevehammes - I think your comment is misguided on a few levels. People living at home would have more income because of the house repayments/rent they might not be paying. (Typically) Expenses are paid for or shared with parents. Young people love having friends in the rear seat. The main reason (I think) these cars are owned mostly by 'older' people is because of insurance rules (well they are in Australia). Thanks for expressing your opinion on this video :-)

  • @lauriejamesmackeson thats why im under my dads insurance...$180 a month they said theyd charge my for a new wrx!! pretty damn good considering if i wasnt under his insurance it would be like 350 a month

  • @chinchillawrangler Nice. I just bought a 2011 Subaru WRX Premium Dark Gray Metallic last week. Im 20 and my insurance is only going to be $144 a month since I have a clean record and my mom has her car, condo, and life insurance with State Farm. I had only driven manual twice before I bought the car so Im still not good at it and I live in Chicago so the traffic doesnt help at since everyone in their lame automatics starts honking if u stall.

  • @raulgomez902 how did you get your loan if i dont mind me asking? i took a 20g loan out last october and my dad cosigned for me so i got a 3.3% interest rate... but i might be moving out soon so i wanna get rid of my truck and pay off that loan and start a new loan for a wrx.

  • @chinchillawrangler I could have had my mom co sign but the rate would have been 7% so we put the car under her name at 4% interest rate and I put down 4,000. The car was $29,000 plus tax came out to $32,000 then I added the 6 year warranty for about $3,000 so the total price came out to $35,000. Im thinking of taking the 6 year warranty off since it already has a 5 year power train and my payment would go down $50 a month for the next 6 years. Do u think it would be a good idea to do that?

  • @raulgomez902 if i were you id get your mom to cosign with you cause 4% is really good. but id just go with the base wrx. its a few grand cheaper and you still get the essentials. and yeah screw the extended warranty just treat your car good

  • @chinchillawrangler Its too late now to get the base model which is the one I wanted when I went to the Subaru dealer but it was in transit and they told me it would be a few weeks before it made it to them which I believe they just wanted to sell the Premium model which they convinced me to buy since I wanted to get the car already for my 21st bday. So now my payments are 500 for 6 years and when I take the extended warranty off they will be like 450-460 a month for 6 years.

  • @raulgomez902 holy shit man. that makes my 330 a month payment look like nothing.... have fun with your wrx. post some vids sometime

  • @stevehammes subaru doesn't make one. DUH!

  • @johnpark219 dude your crazy... i have a 2011 wrx sedan and the exhaust note is anything but quiet... im not complaining but i love that it is loud and has that distinctive boxer note, it sounds muscular and when you put your foot down it just screams "get the fuck out of my way im coming through!" haha

  • @JMAHER1523

    hahaha...epic

  • @JMAHER1523 If you think the stock wrx exhaust is loud then you must have never owned an after market exhaust, a world of difference. The stock exhaust sounds real nice, but it's hardly loud compared to an aftermarket exhaust. It's loud compared to a camry, but for a performance car, it's pretty tame actually. Turn the radio on and you don't even hear the stock exhaust at all.

  • @pc2k09 oh i know man, im just saying that for a stock exhaust it has a great tone to it. im actually getting the nameless performance exhaust for it soon. i mean you cant expect it to be Really loud considering its a 2.5L 4 cyl haha i still think it has a great stock sound, and when considering other similiarly priced cars such as the camaro ss, which is a "muscle car" of this era, cant be heard at all until its WOT, i mean you expect a muscle car to be loud, but i think the wrx sounds better

  • @JMAHER1523 you're*

  • Respond to this video... I'll be waiting patiently for the next gen WRX.

  • @vothry next generation wrx is going to be a 2door coupe with a 1.8L engine... wont come out till 2014 and similiar in size to a toyota yaris.. if you have any balls at all youd get the current generation one and just mod it as you go, as all wrx owners do haha

  • @johnpark219 you have clearly never driven a new wrx

  • Tell the sales person you want to go for a gravel road ride.....

  • Really?!?! He drives a sports car of this caliber and he complains about the noise? That's part of the package! As for me, I am digging my 2011 WRX, love it! Somebody lend him a ManCard

  • Ive owned a lot of different sport compacts, i moved to this sport sedan about a year ago and i love my WRX. This car is all balls. The gas mileage stinks but who cares!

  • pffft you never tell a subaru to shut up

  • Let me say I'm not a Subaru hater I love the evo's and sti's.

  • Evo x with the rite launch and driver 4.6 0-60.

I've heard the sti is around 4.7 or 8 and with a bad driver 5.3. Not for sure though.

Doesn't matter how fast the car is if the driver doesn't know what their doing.

  • hmmm, i prefer the 2-door, much more sporty

  • i traded my 08 civic for this car omg i wish i had a wrx since 3 yrs ago

  • wrx 4.7 0-60 I think they dont know what they are talking about.

The sti stock is 0-60 in like 5.2 rite?

    Evo x 4.6 rite?

    These youtube videos confuse me

  • @TheEvoXGSR the sti is faster of the line than the wrx, but the sti is slower to 60 in 4.8, the wrx in 4.7, the evo x in 4.9, although it all depends how high you're revving it off the line, the driver and even if the car's really been broken when they test. the evo ultimately is a better car but i'd always prefer the subaru

  • The complaint about the exhaust is just ridiculous. If you don't want to hear the exhaust don't buy a WRX, brutal.

  • OMG I WANT THIS CAR SO FREAKIN BAD!!!! first car im looking at next weekend

  • I just got a white 2011 wrx sedan, and it is so fun to drive, i had an RX8 before it and the WRX is a such a better car in every way

  • Great review. I have a 2008 Subaru WRX Sedan and this 2011 model just has me drooling.

  • as if people buying this care about the fact that yuou need premium, all modern performance cars need premium, if it doesn't need premo its been detuned then, why would you want that in a perfromance car.

  • HI steve, do you think a wrx sti is a bad choice as my first car to learn how to drive manual?

  • @MmaNcovers Not the easiest car in the world to drive for first-timers...but I'm sure you'd get the hang of it.

  • @stevehammes alright thanks. My aunt works at subaru, and she was a bit nervous for me. She said in new york, where we live, that its just too much car for me to learn on. BUt my friend is teaching me how to drive manual next week on his 1999 camaro so at least i won't be oblivious to it

  • @stevehammes While a wrx wasnt the first car I learned to drive in. It was the first car I owned ;-)

  • @MmaNcovers Non sti would suffice.

  • @MmaNcovers What kid gets an STI as a first car? It's parents like yours that have ruined the youth of America... spoiled brats don't work for shit.
