A rare swing and a miss for Maher here. I find him funny and his observations are usually quite accurate. In this age of Center-Right and Far-Right media dominance, Maher is a necessary voice speaking the truth about both parties. In this clip, however, he comes across as a bit too far over the line on several jokes (the ones that got groans from the audience). He should save the bile for the "rant" sections of his delivery (i.e. the parts where he is an advocate more so than a comedian.)

If the Bible (or Qur'an, Torah,etc.) is wrong, you'd expect people over the next 2000 years to come up with discoveries about morals and nature incompatible with religion. The clergy would try to prevent such steps and when failing to keep the people in the dark, they would have to allow them to believe in those new things and the Bible, slowly changing it until none of it is read literary.

That's precisely what's been happening. Round Earth, heliocentric system, evolution, etc.

Because many conclusions convice that the Bible is wrong, that isn't a trivial matter for something supposed to be the word of God.

And if you can alway interpret a part shown to be wrong differently so the disproof doesn't apply to it anymore than it never held any defined (usable) information in the first place.
