  • Hey this a great song

  • du du hehe

  • Man, you really couldn't tell Diana was singing at first. That one gal has a very strong voice.

  • Wait?! Did Mary block Flo's camera shot?! =:o

  • Comment removed

  • people can say the shit they want to about Diana Ross but she's the star,

she put the supremes on the map, #1 DIVA- ms. DIANA ROSS

  • God, remember singin thus when i was like in 5th grade for a talent show! Have never forgotten the words since! Awesome song....stop! In da name of luv puleez!

  • I was born in 1984 and English is not my native language. Anyway, I really appreciate the 60s and the great voices of these ladies. I am enjoying a really good moment while listening them. Makes my worktime a whole experience... Thanks for sharing! =)

  • For the first 10 secs all you can hear is Flo strong voice! Get em Flo!

  • @MostExaltedOne79 Actually, that's Mary's voice. Mary is most prominent on this clip. Mary has a deep, earthy, smooth Contralto voice...Flo's tone is more piercing

  • @MeetTheSupremes oh.my.god....thank you for clearing this up! Everyone seems to think that it's Flo with that voice, but actually it's Mary. Even I thought it was Flo (I'm 22 and I'm finally taking the time out to get into The Supremes) because Mary was so thin and tiny. Although, her appearance has nothing to do with the way her voice sounds, I was like "Wow! that voice is coming from her??" Lol

  • @MeetTheSupremes That's right. I'm wondering. Since you post these videos, can you control these comments? I actually think you should delete (if you can) some of these nasty comments. It's an insult to these three women who worked hard, had immense talent and were so admired.

  • @MostExaltedOne79 Yea that's Mary in this video, Flo's taking the really high notes in this, so you don't really her over Mary's voice.

  • sing it ms. DIANA ROSS

  • Hear the teenagers screaming the approval of the Supremes and (then) new single of "STOP! In name of love" in 1965.

#88-41-12-3-2+#1 .....a smash hit on the charts.

  • It's interesting to see these old clips that many of us would otherwise not get a chance to see. Mary and Flo's eyes and face were always dead looking compared to Diana's

  • i dont know much about motown roots, but i love this song esp when i see it in monochrome. Pure delight from old school :)

  • Shindig would later be considered unhip, but this clip shows how cool some of the songs were interpreted with cool sets, lighting camera angles. Marvin Gaye's

"Ain't That Peculiar" looks awesome, too.

  • @34airflow Oops. The version of "Ain't That Peculiar" that I'm thinking of is from Hullabaloo. Disregard. His version of "Hitch Hike" on Shindig is cool, though.

  • @bigbear39ca i also like cindy. i know what you mean about cindu. when i see her on glen campbells show, andy williams show etc ....i wonder.

  • #137 best songs of the 60s stop in the name of love, the supremes

  • I love that funky bass beat. They always sounded so much better live. It's a shame I can't say that about acts today

  • I COULDNT TELL FOR THE FIRST TEN SECONDS DIANA ROSS Was SINGING KAUSE I HEARD TO MUCH OF FLO

  • IM SORRY FOR DIANA ROSS FANS BUT FLORENCE BALLARD WAS WAY BETTER FLO WAS BORN IN THE WRONG GENERATION BECAUSE IM 22 IF SHE WAS BORN IN OURS SHE B BANK ROLLING AN HER KIDS WOULD HAD BEN SET

  • @johnnetta21 reality check here please. ...but she wasn't so no one knows what she'd be doing today, or how many more times diana would have to have bailed her out finacially. this is a great song. a snippet of time gone by. it should be enjoyed for what it was, not what could have been. we could say what you said about anyone.

  • @johnnetta21 - well Flo was not born in your generation and if she would have been she'd be a backup dancer.

she had her chance with a new record label and she bombed big time.

I'm sorry for Florence fans but she was just not talented enough to make it on her own

  • @ronaldrkmartinmartin , Well if you listen to her album, you'll hear why it bombed. It was embarrassingly bad

  • @ronaldrkmartinmartin honey, you ain't fit to pick up dog poop on a hot sidewalk! and my girl Diana always admitted she never had anything on Flo. For it was Florence who was the voice of the Supremes. But I guess you didn't read that on page 92 of Diana's book: "[Florence] was capable of such high volume that, with the proper training maybe she could have sung opera had she had the money or knowledge to pursue that kind of career."

  • @xxxstripperella6969- woulda, shoulda, coulda, Florence went as far as she was ever gonna get,

  • @ronaldrkmartinmartin and so have you...a fat gay slob livin in your mother's basement!

  • @xxxstripperella6969 - and so have you... old drunken slut, wish you had a basement to live in

  • @ronaldrkmartinmartin and you wish you were all the good things god made me...a real woman! i don't have to sneak out of the basement to try on mommy's high heels and skirts like you, at 22, probably still do.

  • @xxxstripperella6969 - God made you a troll, your a toothless crack smoking old whore.

that's where you live in someone's basement. you don't own a decent skirt let alone a pair of high heels

  • @ronaldrkmartinmartin honey, don't reuse my basement insult because you can't think of your own...you poor thing, 22 and you still can't last more than 30 seconds in the sack...i may be a whore, but i'd never stoop low enough to sleep with u

  • @xxxstripperella6969 - Bitch Please! nothing on this earth could make me sleep with YOU!

your trash, a toothless old pole sliding old whore, the only thing your good for is giving blowjobs,

you only have three teeth in your mouth

  • Comment removed

  • @ronaldrkmartinmartin boi at 22 you couldn't handel all this! twenty two pounds of pure black titty in yo face would be enough to scare you so straigt you'd be trying to bang martha washingons dead corpse!

  • Comment removed

  • @ronaldrkmartinmartin - haha oh lord LMAO!

  • IM SORRY FOR DIANA ROSS FANS BUT FLORENCE WAS WAY BETTER FLO WAS BORN IN THE WRONG GENERATION BECAUSE IM 22 IF SHE WAS BORN IN OURS SHE B BANK ROLLING AN HER KIDS WOULD HAD BEN SET

  • THAMKS SO MUCH: One of the best-loved hits of my youth; Diana ALONE & all the many coverages couldn't match the org. version! MOTOWN forever!

  • Diana's stage presence is so strong here. Very ladylike and charming performance. No other lead singer of a group quite like her at that time.

  • Mary is doing it up in the background. Amazing how each girl had great vocal talent back then.

  • Three Microphones with Three strong voices that blended into one GREAT sound-until BG pulled the plug on 2 of the voices and ended it all!

  • @chrissen1 i've got a sneaky suspicion florence and mary had a lot to do with their own undoing. mary should have worked on the love child stuff instead of taking that holiday. diana worked hard back then when it mattered. mary has to work hard now because she has to to stay in peoples' minds. diana is already entrenched there.

  • @wonderboyjoy I haven't seen any evidence that either Cindy Birdsong or Mary Wilson took a break from the Supremes. Motown used the Andantes to do background on a number of songs from different artists. "Someday We'll Be Together" was originally intended as a Diana Ross song, so it would have been weird to have other members of the Supremes recording on it, right?.

  • @34airflow Did you read mary's book?? Berry's book?? diana's book. all three make reference to the infamous 'holiday' while diana slaved her guts out. Love the supremes, but diana was tops for effort and durability.

  • @34airflow , If it was intended as a Diana Ross album track, why wasn't it put on Diana album track? They should have redubbed it with Mary and Cindy's backing voices for authenticity's sake if nothing else.

  • @SpazChat I don't think Motown considered its groups the way groups are considered today. (Other labels acted the same way, I'm sure.) Maybe the powers that be just wanted to know how the same song recorded by two different lead vocalists would sound. After all, why was the decision made to have female singers back songs by the Four Tops (and not credit those women?) It was just the way things were.

  • @chrissen1 Yup. I think Motown wasn't big on trios, quartets, etc. Except for the Temptations, most groups featured a lead singer (The Four Tops, Martha and the Vandellas, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.) If the Supremes had continued to sound like this, there's no telling what direction they would have gone. After all, The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, the Momas and the Popas, and the Beach Boys were all about a group, not a singer with a backup group, right?

  • @34airflow This was done mainly for business reasons. Berry could get more for showcasing two acts at one time. Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Martha and the Vandellas, Diana Ross and the Supremes, etc.

  • i like this but you can see and hear when Mary messes up a lyric at 1:44....lol

  • i like this but you can see and hear when Mary misses up a lyric at 1:44....lol

  • no they came together and wrote down names they liked and put them in a hat and FLORENCE PIKED THE SUPREMES OUT OF THE HAT AND THAT WAS WHAT THERE NAMES WERE

  • @LOCKSONLOCKS No they didn't pick them out of a hat. MotownMaster is right. Even Flo has admitted that she had a list given to her and that she picked the name Supremes from, which Diana and Mary disliked as they felt it was too "masculine".

  • @MeetTheSupremes wat ever you damn say

  • wonderful , i will never forget supremes , they where the perfect group :)

  • Wow-this is great!

  • Awesome!!! I just wish the video was clearer, it just makes me feel old! My girls were off and running.

  • I LOVE how they jazzed up the melody on this version! Once again I liked Diana and Flo on this but Mary should've went into falsetto on some of the higher parts because it doesn't sound so hot. She can sing but she's overpowering, I can barely hear Flo. I do wish Mary and Flo would've 'ooed' on the 1st part of the verses like they usually did on this song but Diana handled it!

  • Both Mary and Flo were great singers. Flo really had the strongest voice as admitted by Mary Wilson. And it was Flo's idea to start the Supremes. She picked out the name for the girls also. Diana was chosen as the lead singer because her voice (though not the best) was the one that Berry Gordy thought would cross over to other audiences the best. They made history and I will leave it at that.

  • All 3 girls had very unique personalities & voices - together they made the perfect group.

Florence was the first member selected by Milton Jenkins, manager of the Primes who wanted a female group also. She did not "start" it on her own and select Mary & Diana.

Their are dozens of interviews from all 3 girls on record that show Motown wanted a new name, and helped by Motown secretary, Janie Bradford, Florence "selected" the name Supremes from the list she was handed, That is the story.

  • @myke1958 Pretty much...except that Flo's voice of course attracted the attention of Milton in the first place

  • @myke1958 who the hell told uyou that FLORENCE BALLARD made the supremes and the name

  • @LOCKSONLOCKS she picked the name from a list given to her by Janie Bradford, Mary, Barbara and Diane hated the name at first

  • DIANA ROSS LOOKS LIKE A PUG

  • Motown records turns 50 years old this week.

  • My song du jour!

  • the music is scary

  • @corlos19 LOL! It sounds awesome and funky, much different than the recording, huh?

  • awesome

  • GOOD TIMES!

  • i like this video when i frist watched it

  • 素晴しい。

  • @Muah809 Glad you liked it =) Thanks for commenting.

  • Mary is Killing the Background vocals... That girl could sing back then! She is he one with the full earthy bottom...

  • @trickkie33 Yes! Mary was really holding it down! She can sing reasonably high too. Have you heard I'll Set You Free from the Love Child album? Mary belts out notes at the top of Mezzo-soprano range with Cindy. I will be posting it soon =P

  • I simply love this

This is CLASS ACT peformance,no back up dancers,no tech ,etc, just their voices ,charm and talent.

Learn from these Lady Gaga,DIRTY Xtina,Britney all sluts

  • @kickassfan *cough* couldn't agree more lol. I'm gonna add you on my other account thanks to that comment lol. Thanks for commenting.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • Thnaks so much MeetTheSupremes these are the real ladies of the 60s,I simply have respect for the Great Diana.

  • I love this clip...great performance...all 3 of were killing it.

  • They certainly were =)

    Thanks for commenting.

    Have a nice day.

  • Loved DR so much before she became a "diva".

  • shindig pick of the week. i'll be going to more shindigs next month again. i love it

  • Remember Motown usually toned down Florence's vocals because of her classical training she could really project.I would have love to have seen Florences solo or leads in the early days.Maybe the Motown review tours.Mary always was and still is a good singer.Frank Wilson in the liner notes of their anniversary cd said if he had a choice with the final Supremes he would have rather picked Mary to sing lead.Remember she did come to mind first to lead Where did our Love Go.

  • She had classical training? Wow Something is learn everyday.

  • WWell Flo could sing classical. It was singing Ave Maria at a school competition that Mary found out how good Flo was. lol.

  • She sure was. Thank you for that revelation!

  • @pookiechristopher I'm glad they picked Diana Ross cus no one can deliver a song like she can! I dnt think they wud have been as big wit someone else on lead. Diana had that voice and no one sounded like her at all. So Berry made the rite choice..........in my opinion!

  • I wont deny Dina ability to sing.If I did not think she could not sing. I would not have or own everything they have put out.Remember all the songs where written around Diana. She is a trmendous talent ,but i dont think her voice was right for everything that they put out, especially covers.trust me If Berry had wanted to make the other two stars he could have by changing the Motown Machine ie Mary Wells for Example Diana(the Supremes) was her replacement.

  • @pookiechristopher That do make since! I understand wat ur saying Cus Wells for a short tym was the Queen of Motown then Diana came to the Thrown! But I dnt believe the Flo's voice would have crossed over as much as Diana's voice did! Flo had that gospel Opera voice and Diana had the Pop jazz voice that was perfect for that era! Mary was OK but I've heard her sing lead on many of Supremes songs and her voice back then isn't sumthing u wud want to hear all the time! Hope ta hear from ya!

  • Thanks for the comment. With Mary listen to her early stuff even the Primettes singles they where good and so was her voice.Mary's confidence waned once Berry undermined her confidence by telling her she could not sing. This did not work on Flo he got to her in other ways. But not to sleep on any of the them their leads where remarkable for girls singing on records as young as

    14 or 15 Buttered Popcorn(FLO)@17.Pretty Baby(Mary)@15. and those DJ Shows(Diana)@17.

  • @pookiechristopher I think we all agree hat without The Supremes in our lives there wud be less joy and happiness in the world! I'm glad that we talked!!!! Somtimes i read the comments on here and people get real mean and nasty. But this was a real nice discussion! Thanks youtube Buddy!

  • Thanks,You are so welcome look forward to hearing from you again

  • i agree

  • You can't make a star out of anyone. It doesn't work that way. It takes more than a great voice or beauty to be a superstar especially a legend. There is an "it" factor that cannot be defined. He tried to make huge stars out of many who also flopped or quickly faded. It's not that simple. Diana was not simply selected on a whim or by chance. Peers like Aretha Franklin said....there was something about that skinny one in the middle. I agree and there has yet to be another like her.

  • wow i love that begining and the dark background.

  • they are great:)marys voice sounds great.berry is wrong if he thinks she cant sing.i love this song and love mary and flo in the background:)

  • =D If you really want to hear Mary in top form - listen to SUNSET from The Supremes Sing Country, Western & Pop album.

    Thanks for commenting.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • jonathan.....we think alike! i LOVE mary on SUNSET.

i think my fave though, is her lead on "Don't Let My Teardrops Bother You"....that should have been a single!

  • OMG YES YES YES!! That song is sooo underrated! So amazing! wow we do think alike =D

  • Everything they "touched" turned to GOLD and then Ms Ross (and her managers, I am sure) decided she was just too big to share billing. Such a shame because they truly made some wonderful music together.

  • I think by now Berry was already trying to prepare Diana for a solo career. His work payed off but it's just a shame Mary and Flo couldn't have matched (or at least come close to) Diana's level of solo success.

    Thanks for commenting BroncoMaverick.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • a simpler time in America..now everyone is a 'megastar' on the internet...

  • 11 years before i was borned.. I love these music. ;) Classic in my hearth. hehe

  • 2 years before my mother was born...LOL xD

    Thanks for commenting =D

    Have a nice day.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • you can really hear marys voice in this performance...

  • You most certainly can =)

Thanks for watching and commenting =D

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • I Love Mary's voice. She could sing. Berry was nuts saying she couldn't. What a loser.

  • I've always thought Mary had a g r e a t voice - many times her vocal performances were more controlled than Flo's (except for on her debut solo single RED HOT loool)

    Thanks for commenting heartandsoul22.

  • Mary shines--its like a duet with Diana who seems weak here--they all seem kind of bored or nervous or something.

  • Certainly not their most dynamic performance but definately no worse than what any other pop/r&b girl-group was doing at the time. =)

    Thanks for commenting spintation =)

  • nice to hear Marys voices it really booms in this video - but i have to say i miss flos high voice on "break" too bad its only on live versions

  • diana is so fabulous in this clip earthy sexy and the total star as she continues to be - Berry G really had a great eye for talent. This clip is so great ive had to comment twice... Have a Supreme day :P x

  • Haha you too =D

    Thanks for commenting =P

  • No problem =) - much more to come (and from the other s u p r e m e lineups as well =P)

  • Whoever was playing that piano was TEARING IT UP. Fantastic arrangement. Would like an instrumental. Oh! I think I'll make one.

  • Haha. Thanks for the comment.

I personally love the horns on this performance =D

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • totally awesome - thank you so much for posting - god those girls worked damned hard no wonder the stress got to them and rifts appeared but we still love em

Again thank you so very much for posting - i LOVE youtube

  • No problem *correction you LOVE my channel* HAHA =P

    Thanks for the lovely comment.

    Have a wonderfully s u p r e m e day.

    - JLG [JonathanLGardner]

  • Even though they are standing on those towers, the Choreography is still breathtaking, i love how they slowly put their arms up, these woman are Fine

  • Haha they sure were =)

  • Something about Florence! Mary sure is singing her heart out. Diane's performance was nice.

  • I find here that from the front Flo looks fat in the dress but when you see her from the side you can see she was just as skinny as Mary and Diana LOL.

  • Comment removed

  • Flo looks SEXY ASS HELL! AND WHEN THEY SHOWED HER FROM THE SIDE I HAD TO LOOK AWAY AND SHAKE MYSELF! xD

  • WOW! Thanks so much for posting all of these rare and supurb clips! How did you get them all? Have a Supreme day! :-)

  • I downloaded them from youtube when SupremeGL had his account so I could watch them if I didn't have my internet - then his account was permanently disabled and then mine was (JonathanLGardner), so when I created MeetTheSupremes I decided to post some of the videos he had - as he hadn't posted them.

    Thanks for commenting =)

  • A Classic! . . . Makes me feel like 5 1/2 again, LOL. A great vintage clip, and the girls with angel voices never sounded better!

  • Aww, I'm glad you like it so much =)

    Thanks for commenting.

    Have a wonderfully s u p r e m e day.

    - JG [JonathanLGardner]

  • Mary must have eaten her cheerios that morning...Shes so powerful!

  • Yes, Flo wasn't the only one who had a powerful voice =)

  • Great vintage clip, thanks for sharing

    ~ ClipsFC

  • In this performance, the hand motions are NOT in synce. They look to depressed.

  • They look 'together' enough for my liking =P

It isn't easy to see their facial expressions because of the lighting and quality but they still put in a great performance.

    Thanks for commenting.

  • good clip but its too depressing wtih the dark background and thoses dresses are bad

  • I think I have a picture of them in these dresses and they look really nice - but the quality of the video doesn't allow you to see that -_-

    Thanks for watching.

  • wonderful....

    great clip...............thanks

  • Thanks for commenting.

    Have a wonderfully s u p r e m e day.

  • TRUST ME, U can hear flo perfectly! God rest her soul...

  • I can hear Flo BUT the voice you hear in this appearance dominating the background is Mary's. Thanks for commenting.

  • i hear u flo & tha background diana u look kinda like me alittle its kinda scary u & mj or the only people I can see it

  • It is definately quite a depressing version because you hear Mary more and the set is so simple and kinda dark.

    Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • I remember this like it was yeaterday... even though I haven't seen it for 43 years! Thank you.

  • Thank you once again.

  • I hear mary more than diane and flo. Mary was feeling dis song but, diane and flo did damn gud also.

  • What a cool early performance!

It was odd in a way because the set was so simple and not as grand and spectacular as in their later performances.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Yes the set is simple and their dresses look pretty simple as well. I really like this performance though =D

    Thanks for commenting.

I will be reposting more vids soon =D

  • I love these very early clips..when the fame was fresh..they hadnt even begun to become really glam yet

  • I love them too, to be honest any live appearance with the original lineup is a treat for me =D

    Thanks for commenting.

    Have a wonderfully s u p r e m e day.

  • I'd like the link JustMe.

They sound very good hear and look very good here.

You can really hear the Supremes in the background.

  • IMO they look ALRIGHT here but the dress makes Flo look fat from the front but wen you see the side view you can see she was skinny =S.

Anyway abut vocals, I think having Mary much louder than Flo on this performance was quite effective in giving the performance a sad/depressing feel. I think it worked with the gloomy set =)

    Thanks for commenting.

    Have a wonderfully s u p r e m e day.

  • BREAKING NEWS!! I've found quite a "gem" a rare radio interview that Diana Ross did with the CANADIAN BROADCASTING CORPORTATION (CBC) while she was performing at EXPO 67 in Montreal Quebec 1967. Hopefully I can display this link so you can hear the interview. Diana reveals much about Florence's departure and Cindy as her replacement. Very good interview. Apparently "they" (youtube) won't let me post it so if you're interested send me a message and I'll give you the link.

  • Have you ever seen such jealousy from oceanbound

  • It's more mental illness than jealousy. He's a fucking idiot.

  • LOL, he is blocked now =D

Not just from this account but my singing account youtube . com / THEJLG

  • They had an earthquake in Pakistan, its too bad the earth didn't open up and oceanbound fell in. Wait! mother earth probably wouldn't even have him either. LOL!!!

  • LOOL well that wasn't going to happen, remember he is OCEAN-bound LOOOOOL

  • LOL!

He is ridiculous. He is blocked now, never to TERRORISE my vids again =P - check out where he comes from LOOOL

  • @supremesfan2 Jealousy, has nohing to do with it, He's actually quite correct, considering Diana is the only one that became a superstar long after the group officially disbanded in 1977

  • @BlogShag I meant to say long before the group disbanded...

  • There's a lingering stench of rancid Pakistani moose pussy in here.

  • HAHA rofl lmao loool.

The smell should fade away as the source has been blocked =D

Thanks sooo much for that comment, reminds me of something I would write.

Have a wonderfully s u p r e m e day and if you have time please check out my other channel,

    youtube . com / THEJLG - without spaces =)

  • @PhilLatio99 Then get out...

  • Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson and Diane Ross - the iconic Supremes.

  • I agree completely. I L O V E A L L the lineups but none can compare to the first =D

You know iTune for their Supremes collection use a pic with CINDY in it, omg soo annoying when she is on like 1 or 2 of the songs!!!

    Anyway thanks again and have a wonderfully s u p r e m e day.
