I hate sounding like some lame rock history wonk but I think it's worth noting that this whole "haunting" echoing finger picked electric guitar with cellos and flues (which Nico apparently hated) was practically invented by this album's producer Tom Wilson. He employed is on Chelsea Girls as well as albums by other artists of the period like Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Velvet Underground, The sound strongly influence acts like early Leonard Cohen and Judy Collins. "Cool" electric folk rock.

@sunra3000 it was what i took from 'nico icon' as evidence of her decent. early photos show her outward beauty. it seems almost more sad that, as you point out, and may have been mentioned in the movie, that she was attempting recovery. otherwise, i will still hold her to be a major talent with major problems that, if you go by the wikipedia article, means 15 years of serious heroine use and that's not something i would recommend. i hope your not suggesting heroine is other than distructive.

I'd forgotten how much I loved her music till I saw this.

She was featured on the BBC programme "The Old Grey Whistle Test", playing the harmonium(?), and John Peel (R.I.P.) also used to play her a lot on his Radio 1 show. Very intense, melancholy, and brilliant, never dull. I was lucky to see her live in the very early 80's in England or Wales (I forget). Sadly, most of the crowd did not get it and were there for New Order, The Damned, and Dead Or Alive. They had closed minds for anything else.

In the film "Nico:Icon", they showed a video from the 80s of her performing a much faster "punk" version of "winter song".

I am almost positive it was winter song, because i remember distinctly the opening words "The snow on your eyelids that curtsy with age" and the first time i heard it i ran to find the lyrics to the song because they were so incredible. can you help me? Do you know that version?

i vaguely recall the footage you're talking about (was it grainy black and white?) ~ unfortunately i don't know that version of the song. sounds cool tho. this is the only recorded version i've heard. perhaps it was in the theatrical version of the film? there were a few things cut for the DVD. and thanx for the comment :)
