  • Goodnight my love Remember me as you fall to sleep Fill your pockets with the dust and the memories That rises from the shoes on my feet I won't be back here Though we may meet again I know it's dark outside Don't be afraid Every time I ever cried from fear Was just a mistake that I made Wash yourself in your tears And build your church On the strength of your faith
  • I imagine there a few great bands still doing it or starting out and there are a few like FOO or chevelle maybe even some of the good ole boys are still making music for their bread and butter but this band could still cut the mustard today ,,, oh no lets go put on some top 40 (JUSTINWHEREAREYOU) ugh maybe even alil Trent would make my day but top 40 has to go

  • Meant to be listened to on vinyl

  • incubus sucks compared to slint... how the fuck can ppl even compare them...

  • I wish Slint would have made a straight instrumental post-rock album, like TNT.

  • i dont even know why you people are EVEN mentioning incubus in this video.

spiderland is an awesome album, that's all that matters.

  • best song ever its like it just washes over you its so subtle but so powerful.

incubus are pop rock crapola i cant believe people are actually debating this.

  • This is absolutely incredible

  • Incubus are better than most nu metal bands or whatever genre they got put in. Slint is in an entirely different league though x

  • Goodnight my love.

  • ke coño hablais slint es slint d puta madre incubus es otra jodida historia yankis analfabetos q no os enterais d la mitad ni media...................

  • OMG Incubus is what people who listen to LMFAO and Rhianna listen to when they are trying to be dangerous and broody. It has no where near the maturity and edginess of this. I feel ive further soiled this wall by mentioning them again, ugh. Put your Dre heaphones on and shuffle out of the room with your $100 guitar and open chords..

  • @actionjessie

you are such a fuckin douchebag. let people listen to what they want... this squabble born out of musical elitism is shameful. I mean I agree with alot of what your saying, but the superior air you hold makes me ashamed to listen to stuff like this

  • Wow ive only just discovered this band tonight.Love them. This sounds just like the guitar pieces i write alone in my room when i want to feel something. I didnt know people enjoy music like this. Feeling inspired to record my work.. Its nice to know other people must feel like I do and slint has created something so raw and real. Maybe im not a monster after all...

  • Omg this song is so good, takes me to another place!

  • this is such a beautiful song! love it!

  • ART!

  • Oh man...I'm a fan of your channel and everything, but I couldn't wear either of those designs on my shirt. Sorry. lol

  • Regarding the Slint-Incubus discussion:

    1)Completely incomparable genres of music

2)As far as their influence on future bands, Slint wins hands down.

3)Incubus's songs are melodically driven and therefore have more natural appeal to the ear, while as Slint, for the most part, doesn't utilize a melody in their songs at all.

Summing it up: both are compositionally intellectual artists. I personally prefer Slint, but I enjoy Incubus as well.

  • I'm from Brazil, and I'd like to say this is a great band and they deserve at least respect! Long live for Slint

  • I could listen to this song over and over again...

  • I'm glad to have grown up in Louisville when our music scene was amazing!!

  • Incubus plagiarized this riff in their shitty song "Drive".

  • @OllieTheBum8182 Drive and this song sound nothing alike. If you hear a similar riff, then I'm positive it's a coincidence. Incubus had 3 albums before Make Yourself (the album with 'Drive' on it') . Clearly they were creative enough to come out with dozens of songs before 'Drive', so why would they have to steal someone else's music? They wouldn't. Stop assuming shit just because they sound alike to you. Incubus is still around making beautiful music today. Where's your precious band?

  • @KalikaAutumn

    Quantity =/= quality.

Incubus makes shitty radio rock to sell to all the "indie" kids. Slint made what is often considered one of the greatest albums of the past 30 years and spawned an entire genre of music.

  • @OllieTheBum8182 That's your opinion, but clearly the only Incubus you've ever listened to was the songs you heard on the radio. I don't care if you don't like their style, but it is beautifully crafted so don't say that it's not good quality. I haven't listened to Slint until you left your idiotic comment on the 'Drive' video, so I'm not going to say that they make shitty music. This is the only song I've heard. I personally don't like it, but opinion doesn't make a valid point in an argument.

  • @KalikaAutumn The songs aren't beautifully crafted in my opinion and many others. Leave slint alone and go back to your Incubus videos.

  • @KalikaAutumn are you seriously comparing slint to incubus? what are you, retarded?

  • I wont be back here though we may meet again </3

I'm going through the toughest break up in my life, and my ex showed me this song and I can't help to breakdown every time I here washer play...

  • @supafrogflys I hear ya. Same for me.

  • How have I never heard of these guys??

    This is beautiful.

  • The start reminded of an Opeth song.

  • nine people have shit the bed

  • u kids listen to some shitty music

  • damn. it is the duty of the post together members of the slint to mentor new musical childrens, as you all are quite fucking brilliant.

  • pajo <3

  • @ BillyPilgrimme2 : heh. i dont belive this. my fav song upload by... myself....

  • @billypilgrim0 I guess good musical taste is a common trait of fans of Vonnegut...

  • so it goes

  • This piece is really beautiful, hypnotic and evocative...really great song....

  • You know, when the big guitar comes in, all I can do any time I hear it is stop what I'm doing and listen.

  • One of the best songs I've ever heard. Masterpiece!!

  • Beautiful song. Original, coercing, emotion-provoking. Genius band.

  • "Spiderland" must be one of the best albums of the nineties. A revelation when you learn to know it, and it still is... Their first one, "Tweez" is very good too, although a bit weird maybe...

  • this is great! you guys might like Rems Floating Chandelier:)

  • If you don't understand the difference between 'off pitch' and 'off key', there is no point in engaging you in an objective discussion of the matter.

  • just fell in love..

  • Warm grave. Love it.

  • When I listen to this song, i can separate my inside and my environment , It feels like I am floating on something, this is truly one of the most intense songs I've ever heard... Love it

  • When I first heard this, I thought it was the most pathetic guitar solo I ever heard. But now it's almost impossible for the hairs on the back of my neck to stay flat when it plays.

  • wow.....i love this

  • The emotion I'm feeling right now.... the way I've been feeling for a while.... Slint's music expresses it, and empathizes, when I thought no other artists could be so specific to my emotions. Yes, there are surely many other bands alike out there, although for some reason this is just different. It just connects. I can't explain it.

Never listened to much at all by the band, but I'm glad I've found them now - a time when I probably needed them most.

  • wash yourself and your tears and build your church on the strength of your faith

  • wash yourself and your tears and build your church on the strength of your faith

  • amazing song.

  • every time i ever cried for fear was just a mistake that i made. always loved that line

  • Simply wonderful!

  • fuck yeah!!!

  • is it just me, or is there a hint of grunge?

  • @DHAR3070 I guess you could argue that - like grunge - the vocals are characteristically off-pitch and represent a sort of low ability approach. Not to say I don't like the song, The dude's just not a good vocalist. So he made the most of it.

  • @zyxomma1 Hm I don't know how accurate that is - my favourite grunge band is Soundgarden, and Chris Cornell is an amazing vocalist, and Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam isn't bad either. I think the vocals in this song suit it perfectly - whether by design or out of necessity, I'm not sure, but I'm glad of it.

  • @DHAR3070 Don't get me wrong - I think it works well here. I was specifically thinking of Kurt cobain, who was always off-pitch. It's gave him his distinctive sound - the sound which would go down as the archetypal 'grunge sound'. Layne Staley also spent a lot of time off pitch - though in a more controlled way. It's not the same thing as out of tune in the latter case, but rather a subtle detune used to create a mild and pleasant dissonance.

  • @zyxomma1 Ah yeah, those bands definitely did have a different vocal style, which in a sense helped to define them I guess. Jerry Cantrell seems to be continuing the trend.

I think just about everything in these vocals fits perfectly - the melody, the tone, even the slow speed of his singing gives you that unshakeable feeling that there could be something dark lurking beneath the surface.

  • @zyxomma1 what nirvana recordings does he sing out of key on? kurt's voice is incredible. definitely not low abilty. he was a gifted singer.

  • @roejogan8 I never said he was off key. I said he was off pitch. huge difference.

  • @zyxomma1 not really a huge difference but sure. now maybe you could actually comment on what i said to you.

  • thank you a lot for the song.

  • This song always sneaks up on me when I have my phone play songs on shuffle. Hits the spot every time. Usually hits me when he says, "...that rises from the shoes on my feet."

  • This song is so amazing and fits the atmosphere of a lonely 5 AM, drinking tea. I almost don't wanna listen to it so much so that it won't lose its effect on me. But no, i guess i'm gonna keep listening.

  • One of my favourite songs of all time, utterly brilliant

  • The only way to improve on this song is to play it louder...

Echoing previous comments, thankyou for all the stuff that followed because of you.

  • Is this song about suicide? I think it just might be.

  • 7 people understand nothing.

  • I came

  • while it's tough to argue (in my opinion) there being a "best" song from this album, I think 'Washer' is probably the best contender. This song just grows on you and is so haunting and emotional it's insane. this band deserves more attention, I think they already have respect

  • I was just thinking how this is probably my favorite on Spiderland. It doesn't grab you quite as fast as Captain or Breadcrumb, but its excellence creeps up on you. And nice screen name, man. Have you come unstuck in time? Ptweet -tweet?

  • @MckyMseNTarotCrds You're the first to catch that, so here you go with a special gift: Montana Wildhack is all yours. :)

  • @BillyPilgrimme2 haha, nice.

  • @BillyPilgrimme2 not into the band ...so it goes...

  • definitely my favourite song from them

  • I only half liked this song before my boyfriend played it at the exact right time. Music is a lot about timing

  • i wont be back here

    though we may meet again

  • soul-less if you don't like this music??!!! how soul-less is it to completely ignore an individual's opinion, to think that everything happens in one's own point of view of beauty, to completely miss the point of Music ?

btw,, i LOVE this music and music should be free for all

  • this song has helped me through some tough times.

  • THANK U SLINT. THANK U FOR THIS SONG, THANK U FOR SPIDERLAND AND THANK U FOR MOGWAI, TORTOISE AND EVERYTHING POST ROCK-ish

  • 7 people have never been washed, if they dislike this song...

  • how can u dislike this? everyone has choice but fuck do they have not a soul for ones fuckin beautiful story. FUCK! i0 dont get it.

  • @kirstakis same here

  • Yes one of the greatest bans out there!

  • i miss you Slint !!!!

    the best song !!!

  • recorded perfecto - but live all nuances are lost!

  • Yeah, wot hipsterparadise said. One of the best genres to ever be labelled a genre, if thats indeed what it was..they're all fake notions really. Thank you, Slint. Loved Tortoise too, but this is the best shit.

  • s a r e d r e n w e l l s

  • humanity should feel lucky

  • A masterpiece...one of the best songs ever written !

  • i thank my lovin boyfriend for showing me a diff. kind of music.

    te dua zemra ime

  • Hey

  • @KtSings11 hey dude, sorry, u had to add me! i 4got to check if you commented

  • This is one of my favorite songs from the '90s. I invite you to please spend a moment in sweet nostalgia with me because these days, for the most part, rock music sucks.

  • The lead singer sounds like Neil Young.

    Very nasal.

  • What comes after post rock?

  • @soyousay18 post rock squared and then post rock cubed and so on

  • @soyousay18 Either scissors or post paper, I think. Let me check Wikipedia real quick.

  • @soyousay18

    Nobody Knows...

  • 6:50 is my favorite part of the song, the climax so to speak. Such a damn good part, when the distortion and guitar solo comes in I get goosebumps every freaking time

  • you know, i kinda think the intro to this song sounds a bit like one of the songs in twilight. maybe this is where twilight got it from...

  • @NirvanaGoth2310 Don't speak the "T" word in such a good song video.

  • @MarauderU oh dude, sorry, i was just sayin i think this is where they stole the great music, and yes, what a great song, i always play it while i'm surfing the web.

  • @MarauderU by the way, i am snake scar, its actually my friends account, i forgot to sign out before i replyed to you.

  • @NirvanaGoth2310 Chill man, I'm just kidding :)

  • @MarauderU ok dude, sorry, i got hyped for no reason :)

  • what a song, what a band, great music, the lead singers voice is so eerie, its wonderful. shame this band isn't toghether anymore.

  • this video is awesome, shame they ain't together anymore :/

  • Slint, Codeine, Early Day Miners, Tortoise, American Football, Jesu, ISIS and Idaho (just to name a few), all amazing and criminally overlooked.... crushing and soul destroying, yet at the same time introspective and uplifting. Isn't that just life? I think music like this is just proof that the mainstream is afraid of reality.

And on the subject of vinyl vs. digital; digital can go fuck itself.

  • ..one of the most beautiful riffs I have ever heard. Thank you. x

  • My favorite song of the album.

  • I love the thought of dying a cold death.

  • ah god ive never heard this song before and i lit up just before i pluggged my headphones and my god this got me lost it like hurt hahaha awesome!! where have the bands that make me feel emotion like i just did

  • This reminds me of early 80s Sonic Youth.

  • what songs?

  • held my breath for nine minutes

  • I find it amusing reading all of these comments by embittered indie kids who think of themselves as musical elites because they listen to Slint. Congrats, your palate is more refined than Justin Bieber, now get over yourselves.

  • @MRTEED THOU MAD

  • @MRTEED since you're so superior to everyone, why are you here amongst the plebs commenting on youtube videos? Shouldn't you be busy wanking onto your collection of Muslimgauze records or something?

  • @MRTEED I couldn't find myself agreeing more.

  • I'm so in love with this song. Beautiful.

  • this is a about suicide,if some of you dont understand

  • 6 people have cold toes when they sleep.

  • hm, the 6 people that disliked this song must hav too much blood clogged in their ears from listening to mainstream pop shit to be able to hear this beautiful song

  • great album. not too into Tweez, though. i dont understand why a lot of people hate on them.. mostly jaded garage rockers haha.

  • naprawdę świetne...

  • love love love these guys...

  • I just discovered this record...Pretty awesome indeed

  • Brian Mcmahan's voice sounds like Neil Young on this kinda.

  • really? I fell asleep.

  • Comment removed

  • not so much. needs a little "pep", unless you are stoned, which I am not.

  • @stachand "Pep"? Really? How do you add pep to a song like this? WHY the hell would you? I hope to god you were talking with sarcasm, or else you've spoken like a true jackass with no real life experience. Or maybe you're right. Maybe you should just send a letter to Brian and tell him he needs to start penning his insecurities and pitfalls to techno beats from now on. Give us some soul decay we can dance to.

Slint, you're beautiful. 'Washer' was my lullaby.

  • I think the vocalist and the drummer are the ones from Squirrel Bait also!

  • this song is so amazing. im very close to jizzing in my pants.

  • oh slint, thank you for mogwai and godspeed. thank you for don cab, the for carnation, tortoise... thank you for bellini, and the shipping news--thank you for the entire genre of postrock. thank you slint, for all the bands you've started, or influenced, without which i would surely have withered away by now. not for zwan, though. you'd better get your shit together, david.

  • @hipsterparadise

It irritates me when people speak like this. I think it's totally disrespectful and bemeaning to all those listed bands. Because a band came "first" all who came after owe them something? Respect the fervor, talent and courage it takes to exhibit personal art work. Who's to say that bands like Godspeed and Mogwai, etc. wouldn't have come into if Slint never was? I can recall writing stuff to the likes of Slint before I ever even heard them or any their "proteges".

  • I say this as a fellow musician and fan of Slint's music no doubt.

  • yes, we might be non conformist but fuck me this is incredible ,just shut up and listen to the middle build uo, they come up with such amazing harmonies, moods, wow. sound as fresh now as 20 years ago. my love to this song forever

  • świetna piosenka!

  • Amazing!

  • Can't we all just get along?

  • This is nice and calming...I dont see it as being as 'scary' as my friends say.

  • So fukin good, real music is getting harder to find these days

  • You just gotta stick to the underground.

  • Get a life you faggot.

  • @TheCarmineEternity - why don't you debate your point rather than name calling, your the one looking like a faggot, and Indie, wtf are you on about, actually i have found a couple of good new bands recently, check out New Secret Weapon and So i watch you from afar

  • One Of The Best Bands U Will Ever Listen To, Straight Out of louisville Ky. Now Go Listen To Dead Child- Sweet Chariot

  • hmmmmmm...i like it.......very...deep...creative....i love it

  • enough with the ellipses, you don't look 'deep'.

  • @Shmoe101 excuse me? who the fuck are you bitch

  • This is my favourite on the album and probably my favourite song of all time.

  • The only bands to ever come close to Slint's sound are June of 44, Shipping News, and maybe Rodan. Most other bands just have a minor influence or get culled into the post-rock umbrella, which Slint had a significant influence on but they aren't really post-rock. Slint are a band that sound like no one else, and I have a feeling no one will come close to them.

  • What about Mogwai, bro?

  • Post-Rock umbrella. I dunno, I can tell Mogwai heard this track and thought they could do this. But they are really only taking the skeleton of this song and IMO they don't sound much like Slint too me.
