AC had only been out for a little over a month at the time of this video.
Kaqn was probably sandbagging. Dropped plenty of combo's the first two rounds for no good reason. Could have at least taken advantage of a few tech trap throws there.
@XiahouYuan111 It's when you hit someone with a Dust Strike but you double jump instead of using the homing jump so you can take advantage of the untechable time and do some nasty combos. 3:31 or so.
Kaqn does something similar at 1:26 but he superjumps instead. Same idea.
Holy crap, did anyone else notice how many times Kaqn just flat out missed with fafnir? He didn't connect with it or even force Ky to block a single time.

@ChromeHomura well i knno sol not order makes ky pissed kuz he doesnt try and thats wat i love about that nig sol i dnt kno if sol and order have the same attitude about tryin both r super kool sum1 let me kno
Technically they're the same person. Order-Sol is from the past (I.E back during his brief stint as a member of the Sacred Oder of Holy Knights) in case it isn't obvious, his attitude has not changed.
i agree. However, keep in mind that others are easier to set up for a direct hit. I know in most cases, when the opening is there, I forget I could've used that move as opposed to the one i always use.
Oh shit! That was a nice comeback at the end. That looked like a fun fight, but would have been better if kaqn wasnt playing so defensive at the beginning...
Ky is known for pressuring enemies so that other players would feel scare fighting him, but Kaqn is not the type of person who would wait for an opening or a mess up from Ky, so he counters them
its usually not a good idea to do anything fancy in a tournament setting.. most of the animations of the normal moves are perfectly capable of getting the job done
See what I mean? "Skilled players" don't use overdrives.
Also, you would have to be blind, deaf, and born without hands to actually get hit with an IK. Maybe in the original guilty gear it worked, but not anymore.
that is true, skilled players tend to use RC more then overdrives, because they are better, not because they are more stylish; damage is usually higher and the combo links off a move that is very fast and safe. Overdrives tend to be very unsafe, because they have a long lag after the hit. On block or whiff you are screwed. The combo ky uses a lot in this vid, starts off a close slash, or a kick, links into an RCd stun dipper. it deals more damage then either of ky's supers, but it is very safe.
It's not like pros never use overdrives. May and venom players tend to use them a lot. And they can make decent wakeup options, if you predict your opponents oki well enough.

Sacred Edge does a fine job of chaining as well though. And if overdrives are truely less "safe" to use, wouldn't it require more skill to use them effectively? The only really advantage to RC that I see is to go on the defensive, since damage starts to cap out after so many hits(usually, especially with Ky).
Sacred Edge prorates, so a stun dipper RC deals more damage
it might take more skill to time a super, but its not about how hard something is. A skilled player uses the most effective means to a win. At the beginning of a round, a player might be more risky, try very fancy high damage combos. At the end of a round, they may try more solid safe combos, because they don't need to deal as much damage. Supers get used late game, sometimes because they become unexpected, and can finish some one off.

Ah, so you're talking about an elitest who will do whatever it takes to win. I guess that's the difference in the end, whether you focus on winning or you just focus on fighting. Two different kinds of "skilled".
Uh no, sorry. To be honest, overdrives are very risky and unsafe and can leave a good player open to a less risky and most likely better combo that does more damage. So why would you wanna do that if you can get killed? It's like people who bitch about the bounce system in T5. If I am gonna do more damage safely by juggling you, why would I even wanna try to land an unblockable move that is slow and would result in me getting killed if it doesn't connect?
Ow, you make it sound like they'd cheat to win. If you play GG often and long enough, you will notice that you yourself will start to nearly stop using overdrives, yourself depending on the characther, and go for F/RCs, simply because they do more damage. And truth be told, overdrives are at times, quite a lot riskier than making a full combo, but it doesn't mean that Overdrives require more skill to use. Timing for combos can be tricky sometimes, and go off, but its more rewarding and safe.
You're exactly right dude. The old announcer was 10 times better than this buttercup announcer. What the fuck was ARC thinking when they decided to change the announcer!? He used to get me pumped before fights. I pulled combos with ease before. Now, every time I hear that dipstick say "Romantic", I get so distracted by how gay he sounds that I laugh and fuck up man!XD

But some overdrives shouldn't be underused? Ino's air overdrive, for example, or Eddie's ground overdrive.
Surely there'd be moments when no better move would serve.

It's consider "newbish" to use overdrives. You're more respected if you use roman cancels.
I personally like the overdrives for the invulnerability frames, wait for them to throw an attack and counter.
Tokorai 4 years ago
it's not that.. newbish or not pro move.. doesn't matter. these players do anything for the win.
why don't they use instant kill? it would be the fastest way of winning, wouldn't it? they don't use IK, because the opponent can defend it easily.
why don't they use overdrives? because the opponent can bait them and punish easily.
it's simply not efficient to use your tension on overdrives (usually).
as the overall skill level of players growing, overdrives are used less and less often.
