You know what's the saddest thing about this scene? Riku and Naminé's main goal was to make Sora absorb Roxas...and Axel probably knows it. That he isn't trying to incinerate them says a lot about how his character has changed since Chain of Memories.

He's not the Organization's assassin anymore; just a guy grieving for the person who meant everything to him.

Axel let's Namine Escape that's how he helped.

And Namine helped Riku and SOra.

Sora with the memories and she helped Riku. SO he wouldnt be swallowed by the darkness.

And Axel being nice is because he was connected with SOra's heart, Axel began to feel emotion. and since he was with Roxas. he was begining to feel alot more.

Although he's a nobady and Diz would dismiss him saying he can't really feel desire, I think Axel wanted to find meaning in his life and Roxas made him feel like he really did have meaning. So Axel is sad now that he's gone and wants to exist for the dream of seeing him 1 more time.

Axel really isnt a bad guy in RE:CoM. He helps Sora in his own little way. He also let Namine go so that she could help Sora remember his true memories. They are really the only good/ bad guys in Re:CoM. Does that make sense??

Back at Castle Oblivion Axel eliminated Vexen (which Riku could feel from even in the lower levels) while Namine offered him a choice to seal away the darkness in his heart at the cost of his memories.
