  • I love Joanie;s fast tempo in this version of " Sunday In New York". It reminds me of the fast pace of New York.

  • Joanie Sommers was a terrific singer. She had a special quality to her voice.

  • I like everything she does.

  • I'm no vocal expert, but man can she sing. What a voice.

  • @headley62 Oh yes indeed.......she can definitely swing. The definitive pop female vocalist of the '60s.

  • @SwingAge22 Yes, she has the most terrific voice and style I have ever heard and I have thought this since I first heard her sing in the early 60s.

  • Such a blast from the wonderful '60's! One of the most distinctive voices ever recorded.

  • so great to hear this in vinyl!!

  • never heard of this singer before but damn she's good

  • @slapmyfunkybass In the '60's she had a big pop hit with "Johnny Get Angry" and was also well known for radio & TV spots as the "Pepsi" girl, doing cute songs for them.

  • @slapmyfunkybass I agree.....I adore her voice, style and vocal delivery. I remember her work from the '60s and still to this day cannot figure out why she did not have a much bigger career.

  • I definitely like this singer! I like the Darin version, too. But, Jonie Somers is a great pop singer, and just delivers on vocals and energy and ability. Thanks for these great clips, Wally!

  • @xavier18501 You are welcome.

  • solid chart here and delivery...didn't expect to like this better than Darin's version, but I think I do. This chart is reminiscent of Nancy Wilson's recordings over at Capitol during the same period...same kinda groove. The LP even includes some of the same contemporary tunes..."I'm all smiles", etc. Wonder who arranged this LP....know who was arranging for Capitol during this period, but not sure who Columbia used for its contract singers. Good stuff.

  • @ecapital46 The liner notes of the LP state that it is Mort Garson who arranged and conducted.. It was produced by Allen B. Stanton. Neither name is familiar to me.

  • @wally1435 thanks for the info wally!

  • @ecapital46 You are welcome.

  • That goes for me too Wally. Thanks for sharing this. I love Joanie and thought that she was one of the finest talents of the '60s and should've had a much bigger career than what she did. Glad you shared this vintage version.

  • @SwingAge22 You are welcome.

  • I watched this movie this weekend--had never seen it--Jane Fonda, Rod Taylor, Cliff Robertson. Very mid-1960s.

  • Totally Swingin'! Love it.

  • I turned 16 the summer this song was released. I remember Joanie Sommers from that time period. She was quite popular. This song perfectly reflects life back then youthful expectations suspense, excitement, big fun, danger around the corner yet still wanting to grab it all. That time period was a magical time periodbubbles in our eyes. To most, life was a perpetual Lawrence Welks show-intro.

  • Joanie, awe nobody beats her! That's also Joan Jett's nickname!!! I want to kiss her, what a beaut.

  • would u please post- "I'm all smile" ; "Too late now" ?

  • Beautiful. Thank you x x x

  • You are welcome.

  • Say Wally; Thanks for the memories. My favorite girl singer of all time. Anyone out there know what she's doing these days? Also, did she ever record a song called "Are My Dreams Real?"

  • You are welcome; don't know if she ever recorded that song or not.

  • I have always loved this song, never realized that Joanie Sommers did a version. Thank you for sharing.

  • You're welcome.

  • Loved this movie. Thanks for the memory. 5*

  • You're welcome; thanks for commenting and rating. That was a wonderful movie, as were similar ones (taking place in New York) like "Barefoot In The Park" and "Any Wednesday".
