@ItsNotColdEnough Indeed. Shame they don't make music the way they did. Even the music 20 years ago is much better than the insipid garbage they make today.
Best recording I've heard of this since the NBC Orchestra from 1936 which was used in the second series of Lone Ranger programs sponsored by Merita Bread, which played in the early 50's, when I first heard it.
The flute is exceptionally beautiful. I am also a flutist and always wished I could play this part as beautiful as it is played here. Even though I play with Northwest Chicago Symphony, I don't think I could ever play as expressive and moving as this.
@ve6eta Dude ever since i heard that classic cartoon morning song i've been dying to find it. Now i finally found it. Daffy duck and that dinosaur does bring back good memories.
In a thousand sickly Disney shorts establishing shots in a forest, and a thousand more Warner Brother and Tex Avery shorts lampooning said sickly Disney shorts. It IS lovely though in it's own right.
Oh alright, thank you very much! I'll have to look up some other things they've done, they sound absolutely perfect! Also, I love this part, especially the call to the dairy cows. So simple, yet beautiful! I've been playing French Horn for two years, and still have quite a lot of learning ahead of me, but I'm a pretty decent player. Not trying to brag at all haha.
Glad to hear you recommending the Pavarotti/Freni version, Lindoro. I've held off buying a version because of low esteem for the opera by friends, and of their qualified preferences for other versions. But I heard this one before and thought it well sung (even though Freni's slow vibrato bothered me ). Pavarotti in particular shines.
Glad you liked it :). I actually also have Gardelli's recording but I find Chailly's version, exceptionally cast with first-rate singers even in the secondary roles, vigorously played, dramatically believable and featuring a winning pair of lovers in Freni and Pavarotti (I prefer them to both Caballe and Gedda, in spite of their merits), a better account of the opera, even despite the version being sung in Italian, rather than the original French.
Guillaume is an all-time favourite of mine, and I mean it! I have more than half a century studying it - I remember my efforts in 1954 trying to get the French score! My first recording is that Milnes, Pavaroti-Freni - Then I got in New York that with Gedda, Caballé.. in French, but somebody stole it from me! The Score I got in 1955 is in English and French (Novello of London) Now thans to Youtube I have many excerpts - Thanks for posting
