  • nice - who's that on accordion?

  • Bruce Hornsby

  • i use to eat acid like crazzy when the dead came to town and i loved evey crazy second of it ....rip jerry

  • Jerry Garcia died 4 days before I was born : (

  • What a beautiful song. It is one of my favorites to cover. I hope daneslav got a new bike, but at least he has a great story to tell for the rest of his life.

  • Contrary to the 90s Grateful Dead haters. 90-91-92 & 93 were good years. Lot's of new tunes, some hit's & misses but a good time had by all. Now 94 had it's good moments too, lot's of them. I'm on the East coast and saw the band a million times in my area ( NJ - NYC ) and NEVER left disappointed. Now 94 and for certain 95 would have been the years for the band to take a break. Jerry need to work on getting clean and healthy. I still treasured 95 - I miss Jerry alot - AH HUMMM BOP BOP BE DOP BOP

  • grateful dead rules! I love this band

  • Great story!

  • What a US treasure. What a treasure for the world. I am glad to have seen them as many times as I did live. Friends of Creation!

  • I believe Gerry Garcia will be immortilized as other great artists have. His legacy and fanbase will ensure his memory will live on forvever!!

  • You know...I was born and raised in Ventura, 30 yrs....and then I moved from home, because of babies and the need for money...Dam...Big mistake. But a little memory. When the dead started coming to Ventura...boy what a mind blower. At first- it scared hell right into me...lol... it scared me, hell the trip I took, Not for the weak. But I have to say, I’ve grown to appreciate Gerry Garcia's music, Its part of me. I draw on it constantly, while entertaining myself In my one man GargeBand. Winks

  • Classic blues. Get a clue. Don't look to close...

    MadDead

  • ACCORDION: WIN.

  • ahhhh, set out run'n but I take my time, why rush, life is to precious...specialy when the devil is a riend of mine......

  • I wish I had been born when the dead were around, wish I could see them in concert. But I still got this.

  • One party in particular I remember her telling me about. Said someone knocked on the door during the party, and someone said "who is it". The guy outside the door said "The police" as a joke. She said one of the guys in the party took off running - right through the plate glass door. And that was on the second floor. Said everyone looked outside to see that guy throwing stuff away and running down the street. What a memory.

  • I was born in San Francisco in 66'. And I remember my mother telling me that the Dead, as in the entire band, had partied in our living room plenty of times. Wish I could remember it. I was too young.

  • Phil with the Ken Smith bass ... had no idea all these years .......

  • If you look really close , they use the lighting to make them look like Skeletons. What a Trip!!!!

  • best band ever!!

  • what exactly is this song about? i'm thinking that it is about drug abuse but i am not sure. can anyone explain it to me? i know that jerry garcia had a problem with drugs since he smoked a lot of marijauna laced cigarettes and all and so i guess thats why i think that this song is about drugs.

seeing as he died from doing cocaine that maybe they should use this song as an example to our children not to do drugs!!

thats why i like the Lady Gaga, she's more clean!

    just my opinion.KISSES!

  • @craismith i think some drugs are ok , as long as you use them in moderation. this song is up to the listener to decide what its about with. jerry died because of heroine addiction ( not a good drug in my opinion), and im not actually sure that "lady" gagme is clean, just dont mention her on a dead video again, cus some of the less nice deadheads will troll you hard.

  • @craismith If you ever will take drugs once in your life, you might realize what kinda crab you're listening to ... Peace

  • @dockaiser U R AN IGNORANT HUMAN GOTO SCHOOL AND LEARN

  • @paspal34 Learn what ? How to endure crap ? Why should I ?

  • @dockaiser Bro, don't go to a dead song to talk shit.

You don't like a band, atleast have a bit of respect.

Didn't your parents teach you some manners?

My god, this world is beginning to go to shit..

  • @DontMurderTime "My god, this world is beginning to go to shit."

    "beginning"???

Srsly, I greatly admire yr equanimity in the face of many majorly evil & truly scary trends.

SyFy writer Rob't Heinlein (who was not the crypto-fascist ppl who haven't actually read his work sometimes think he was) had a theory that the 1 sure sign of a culture past the tipping point & doomed is the disappearance of simple courtesies from daily existence.

If he was right, we r v, v, deep in it already

  • @craismith The title is sarcastic, its an alegory about the devil. In it hes being chased by the police, he trusts the devil who gives him money, the devil betrays him and takes his money back and is now chasing him for his soul, Infact the begining is ambigous hes either chased by police hounds or mythical hell hounds. Its not satanic Jerry Garcia is catholic The message is dont deal with the devil, the devils a dick.

Plz explain who lady gagas more clean?

  • 9 People were so high that they couldn't tell the like and dislike buttons apart

  • When the 'Dead do long instramentals, it has an almost hypnotic effect. A very mellow, relaxing, laid back effect. I love the Grateful Dead and sorely miss them and Jerry Garcia and Pigpen.

  • Rock and roll don't get better than this!!! Music is holy!!!!

  • I think Hornsby sounds killer..besides he helped them out when Brent died. They appreciated that he could just come in and get shit going...read the book titled "Garcia-An American Legend"---great read and loads of insight to the whole fucking thing..I couldnt put it down..also personally I could do without Vince

  • this version has a great groove to it! love it!

  • damn....had the picture off & screen minimized..was sounding sweet until that damn hornsby came in w his cheesy toy accordian!

    had to shut it off.

god did that guy butcher the dead sound!

    yuck!!!!!!

  • I listen to this song at least more than 3 times a day, just can't get enough of it.

  • It's weird...my music tastes have always been diverse...but I come back to Jerry and the boys when I'm in need of grounding. I miss you guys.

  • wow, what great seats you had, I think I was at this show with my bro...sweet music. Thanks for posting.

  • I MISS YOU JERRY......every summer that passes by I miss not spending money on deadshows.... No other band can compare to the shows you had.... You know our love wont fade away

  • and yet indetub took the time to respond. talk about useless. crawl back under your rock, unkind person.

  • @indetub Sorry that you dont like this music. My advice find music that you do like and post comments there.

  • All I Know is that Matthew Barnett Loves this Song, and Plays it at least once a week to His Children. Rock on Grateful Dead.

  • I was 9 at the time of this concert, trying to survive in the most ghetto school in Washington...

  • woodstock was 1969 flower power hippies etc, the dead let others feel bits and pieces of the vibe of that era they were genuine a group that would have played for free to all who wanted to groove in the vibe, but it takes money to put on shows. With the DEAD it was never about getting rich. THE STONES it was and still is about money period!!

  • I miss these shows, I was at this one. God blessed The Dead.

  • this show was the reason that tupac didnt do the same thing as cuba gooding jr. if you think im lying, i dare you to try to prove something as ridiculous as tupac wrong, just try

  • wtf r u talking about??

  • get off the crack man

  • @jahwinter420 What the hell are you talkin about you retarded crackhead?! Tupac n Cuba r garbage.

  • @jahwinter420 HEY GUYS, It's been 3mos now so let's give jahwinter420 a break. He's come down by now, looked in his bathroom mirror,whispered-FUK ME,asked his cat what the hell happened, and took his parrot out to lunch.

Come on,we all have been there.

  • That's a really cool story, I wish shit like that happened to me, my biggest story, being a sox fan, is that Stephen King refused to give me an autograph or take a pic at a spring training game in Ft Meyers Florida.....dissed...your story is much cooler............

  • Must be Hornsby ! Great stuff ! Thanks !

  • I remember when I was about 8 years old I used to pedel my bike through the Haight Ashbury district. One day I was going down Ashbury and saw people hanging out front of this house. I stopped and the people said "hey kid can I try your bike?" They seemed really high but I said ok. One guy hoped on and seemed really drunk. He ran it into a fire hydrant and laughed. Figured out later that it was the Dead and that person was "Pigpen." My dad was really mad, but I told him I wrecked the bike.

  • Lol Awesome!

  • dude no way im jealous...

  • that is awesome

  • that's cool

  • dane's sliva: pigpen was more than a "peanuts" character, huh??

bob weir let me air up his schwinn's tires (a redTyphoon) 1973, mike's cyclery, san rafael, ca 94903 true that one

  • really???

  • @daneslav awesome

  • @daneslav I've seen you post this comment on more than one dead video and I enjoy it everytime i read it. I've even told it to friends, its grate. What a grate memory.

  • @daneslav really cool story

  • @daneslav omg that is too friggin cool dude

  • @daneslav not true

  • @daneslav how did you find out it was pigpen?

  • @daneslav awesome lol

  • @daneslav Dude. Awesome.

  • @daneslav That's an awesome story man

  • @daneslav thats fucking awesome

  • Hornsby on the Accordion?

    How cool

  • *two thumbs up*

  • every now and then a boost of the Dead would get u through the summer,,,,fall,,....

    winter....

  • So true, man!

  • i miss Brent... he did some awesome keyboard solos in this song. Check out 03/18/1990... awesomeness

  • yay! thanx for posting! <3

  • By the mid-80s, Jerry's voice was touch and go from show to show. His playing remained choice until Spring of '92, and the solo here is no exception.

Why the band always featured Weir in this song continues to puzzle me.

  • I gave you a thumbs up, there are lots of vids like that, and how often do we see Phil?

  • god damn i just love this song so much

  • years of drug abuse will do that. jerry is still jerry no matter what and everyone loves/loved him

  • Just cause he is technically "gone" doesn't mean people don't love him!

  • Comment removed

  • @magicmark1292 Hes not gone, just press play.

  • I have to agree with cryptsub on this but I used to love this song.

  • He was, and it was beautiful.

  • Wow man

  • so what its just music if you dont enjoy click the next video

  • Don't you get it brother? That is what makes it beautiful.

  • Mellow out man.

  • what? whos been messing with my computer Jesse>?

  • Bruuuuuuuuuuce Hornsby......an unexpected addition to the band at the time.

  • is bruce hornsby canadian?

  • no. from virginia

  • ive never bean to a greatful dead concert but i want to go to one :D

  • There is also something to be said about the whole hippie scene in general from an logical point of veiw this Music was the brittnay spears and Backstreetboys of their time ,, There is no denying that , Theres also something to be said about how normally brilliant young artists and beautiful minds instead of doing something productive in society in general feel "brainwashed into Just following these hopeless romantic ideologys of "Hippie Movement" Free love etc etc , Cannot happen sry

  • fuckin A man!

  • excellent

  • GD is the shit

  • ~~Your Either A Dead head or your NOt!, Kinda Like "Phish",..Or "Anchovies!"...Tha Dead Are an (aquired) Taste!,..Try Sugar magnolia..Or Maybe Some Of the (Recorded) stuff, Its Not Quite as "raw"..Lol..

  • American Beauty changed my life

  • i was talking about the album..... by the grateful dead i could give two shits about that movie

  • I know but what about when it showed boobs?

  • i see my boobs everyday they are no big deal

  • ...you did not!

  • Sounds really good, but I prefer the original pace personally

  • I saw Cal Expo this year and it changed my life = ))))

  • I tried for years to get into the Dead and just couldn't see the appeal. A friend recommended a live show that was supposed to be pretty good - I downloaded it, listened to the entire thing, didn't like it at all. Listened to American Beauty and a couple other albums, same deal.

I heard this song for the first time a couple months ago - this is what finally made me change my mind about them. :-)

  • haha welcome to the insanity my friend. Ive been listening to the dead for 26 years...

  • just takes one, next thing you know you're hooked

  • Yes. Only studio versions of songs are good.

  • not true The Dead always experimented with their songs some shows are good some are bad

  • I like how gordanberret is pretending to trip and has obviously never taken a hallucinagen or even heard from a friend who wasnt lying about having taken them about what there like.

  • Time. Dimensions. Light. Knowledge. I am myself, but awoke to a different world. Thanks for the tunes man! Id like to invite you to come check out "Nightmare on Blog Street" a poem I wrote to infect the sane.

  • The Greatful Dead was not just about the music, but a way of life. I lived in San Francisco and got to see the Dead live. It was amazing! You would meet people who travelled with the dead for a year. That was some serious street cred. If you venture up to Marin (north of San Francisco) the Dead is still alive and well. Peace y'all =-)

  • I know a guy that traveled with phish for 9 years. He was addicted to crack, and did a shit load of lsd!

  • nothing wrong with that

  • Its something to be envied and admired , thats for sure

  • That's for damn sure. He would tell me stories about getting a dropper of acid and would just walk around all fucked up and drop it on people necks. He only did it to people he knew were straight to trip.

  • Jeez! FINALLY I find an actual clip of the Dead, not some joker covering this song. Took me a long time, and thank you ever so much for posting. Blasted fools and their covers don't bother to include 'cover' or whatnot in the title. Well done, sir.

  • Jerry is missed....ALOT

  • mummy? I think we have a Brit here!

  • DEADbyDAWN, I have a feeling your one of those guys who's only tough enough to talk shit on the internet.

I bet in real life you're a giant pussy.

  • "Fucking shit sucks"??

    Is this Bill O'Reilly?

  • You should be put to sleep you piece of shit. Have fun in hell you douche bag.

  • I always saw this song as a reminder that there's a little desperado in all of us and the best way to handle it is to keep a smile upon our face and handle the heat with a little grace. Sometimes when I listen to the chirpin' on these posts, I gotta wonder.

  • We miss you Jerry! Check out The Pine Street Ramblers version on Youtube.

  • Jerry was so so ... calm down

  • Jerry Garcia, the best guitarist ever lived!

  • Outrageously good version of the song!

  • ya bruce

  • ist an accord.... by bruce it equals great shit

  • I passed Phil Lesh today in my car in Kentfield, Ca at an intersection. I let him pass in front of me and he slowed down in a grey Ferrarri and looked right at me and said "Thanks man" for letting him go. The car was crazy. A very cool encounter for me today for sure.

  • you my friend are a lier. he was on the opposite coast when you left this msg.

  • n e one who has to lie about vage useless shit is retarded

  • liar phil was giving me pvt bass lessons in pittsburgh when you left this comment.....pffff what a douche

  • i weep for jerry

  • yep, bad enough having to tolerate Vince's cheese-o-matic casio-$75-special tones, but the accordian is just too brutal. (Vince's solo on this really makes me miss Brent..)

Ps, always loved Bob's solo on this tune ... I think it's the only tune other than the blues numbers that he took a reg. solo on. It's so weird... he always does the same thing

  • thumbs down this comment all you want.

This is AWFUL. between the keyboards and the two drummers this is the worst version of this song I've ever heard.

Other than that, love the song and the dead.

  • i wish i could have seen them or even toured with them!! Camron crow had the life!!

  • Bruce Hornsby on accordion!

  • GOD I wish I could have seen these guys...something special.

  • i just love this song!!!!

  • i was in my moms stomach in one of theese concerts

  • Awesome. My son has been to Jimmy Buffett and Ozzfest, my daughter to Linkin' Park and Korn, and Aerosmith, both before they were born. My ex wife was pregnant when we went to those shows. They'll have some stories when they grow up. haha

  • so what, that has nothin do with the Dead

  • hey genius, comment was a reply to sk8terguy85 about how his mother went to a Dead concert while pregnant with him. If you possessed an IQ above negative digits you may have been able to figure that out on your own. Instead, it seems as though I must spell it out for you.

  • You say nothing about going to a dead concert with your pregnant ex wife

  • heh, dude this is full of dead heads, some of the most liberal people on earth. Don't be preachin' here.

  • Hey douche, go to the beach and bury yourself will ya. Dead rule, you're a judgemental prick, and life goes on.....

  • wow, you are so insightful. Let me enlighten you a bit. My ex wife was a drug addict who chose her pills over her kids, she walked out, I have full custody of my children, they are with me all day every day, and I do not have a girlfriend because I do not have time in my life date when I am working full time to take care of my family. A little FYI, it takes two people to make a marriage work. I continued trying for 3 years after we split up, so don't call me a quitter, you ignorant fool.

  • Ha ha

  • ????????

  • Dear Dad,

Get a life. You and mom used to do drugs together and you ruined her life & mine.

She deserves her children back and you gone.

    Your Son,

    Burt
