this rata was built at Gorky Aircraft Plant No. 2 in late 1939. Serving with the Norh Front´s 155th Fighter Squadron in 1941-42 until it crashed south west of Kostomuksha in Kareilia. It was recovered and rebuilt in the 1990´s by Alpine Fighter Collection in New Zealand. According to Cassic Wings Magazine serial number is 2421319.
Six Polikarpov I-16 are in flying condition today. They have been restored and sold by Alpine Fighter Collection in New Zealand. The last one, Red 9 , shown in my video, was bought by Thomas Juelich member of Flugwerk Mannheim e.V. in Germany.
Spanish republican aviators called it Mosca. It comes from Москва, Moscow, the procedence place of airframe. Москва was readed by spanish republicans as mosca. Mosca in english means fly (insect) . Rata name comes from national aviators, they said Polikarpov appears like the rats, from down and numerously. Now in Spain, we use Mosca. It will not be correct to call rat to the airplane with so many people fought for the freedom of Spain.

"Rata" is very adequate! The motor sounds like a sewing machine, in German: der Motor rattert.
