Lately, there have been some beggars. Occasionally you'll be sitting in a cafe or a restaurant when a small girl comes up to you trying to sell flowers or whatnot. those are beggars.
as for the Sulatn throwing beggars out of the country? where did you hear that? i've never heard of such a case.
Being poor in brunei is when you haul your 17 kids round in a car and go to people's houses and ask for donations. I've never seen anybody sleeping on the street.

actualy what i was trying to say.. there is some poor people in brunei but its not the same condition as in other countries because the standard of living here is abit higher than anywhere in south east asia excluding singapore.. so here, the condition of being poor is umm... well.. not as low as u think.. u won;t see homeless or beggars..
