  • i have the same problem can some one help me ????

  • ok what u need to do ive fixed many with the same problem youhave to take it apart, then take the heat sinks out then go ahhead and take the whole mother board out and clean everything reallyy well then check the chips that are under the heat sinks and wipe them off using a qtip and rubbing alchohol but dont get any on the mother board then put back together if dosent work try a couple times if still doeset then wrap towels around it and over heat it to reset.

  • 2 red lights=overheated

if not overheated on 2 red lights, send it in for repair (3 year warranty)

  • i have the same problem dude,, can u fix it?

  • have the same problem

  • wow fail

  • @ImLikeWhat

Hey , i know this vid is almost 3 years old , but would you remember how you fixed it ?

I've been going around looking for a fix and keep getting the "overheating tips"

  • IT Happened to me twice I send both my systems and they wouldn't

fix them. Both had a 2 year warranty and never been taken apart. So got my trusty 10 pound slege hammer and destroyed them both. My friend saw me and called microsoft about me destroying my xbox's so about 3 weeks later i got a new xbox 360 slim for free and no problems and yes i got a life time warranty.

  • My xbox has three lights at first then the fan speeds up then two lights come up and the fan stops....can it be fixed?

  • @DjNiblet the same thing happened to my xbox did you ever find an answer?

  • @MrDonotgogentle no i couldn't find one but i heard that its common im just going to get it fixed and sell it at the swapmeet LOL

  • You can hate the xbox

  • u need to let it cool down first

  • Microsoft probably made it faulty so that they could make more money those bastards

  • Oh and replace it with new thermal compound. If this still does not work and you've done the x-clamp fix make sure the heatsink is making contact with the chip by tightening the screws.

  • It's about time someone helps. Clean the thermal compound off the bottom of the CPU(big heat sink) with isopropyl alcohol. It may be a little hard if you've don't the towel trick. This has worked for 8 out of 8 Xboxs that this has happened to me

  • same problem bro im just gonna sell it and get the slim with kinect that doesnt have problems like this

  • i know how to fix it if it 2 red lights in like 3 seconds of turning it on or straight away , i will tell you where link is , iv already helped 200 people out ,so easy and its free , X-CLAMP FIX AND HAIRDRYER.

  • @TERMINATOR2452 whats the link, please. i need help

  • @Gr3tsky98 modders-heaven ,under xbox 360 modding tut .That where i put the fix.

  • *sigh* I have this too. However it's not my Xbox's fault. It's the power brick. The Fan inside it is broken and is making a reaaally weird noise for a while, then it stops. After 1 hour sometimes, it shutdowns automatically to protect the xbox from taking damage. This can happen after 30 minutes of use, or sometimes I can even put the xbox on for 16 hours! And no overheat. Cheap china shit, that's what sucks with xbox, quality. However, it still beats PS3 :D:D::D:D::DD:D::D:D: XDDD

  • my xbox 360 elite jasper did this but it just means the hardrive wasn't connected propely

  • how do you fix this?

  • PLZ how do you fix that mine does the same thing please HELP MEEEEE lol

  • ur heatsinks are lose

  • @fartingdog555 How do you rectify loose heatsinks and where are they on the motherbord

  • @fartingdog555 theres only 1 heat sink

  • Same thing happens to mine

  • this is the same exact thing my xbox does

  • i had the same problem , notice that my heat sinks are not fully placed

     on the chips

  • I couldn't see, could you zoom in a little closer next time?

  • Can someone help me when I turn it on right away I get 2 rrod then like 10 seconds later the fans stop how can I fix this

  • tu las puesto peso al chip ana

  • I fixed mine like this lol but it took me over 4 hours, which it only took me 5 to actually fix lol

  • @That1kid100 how??

  • i have the same problem too, after the x-clamp fix ofcourse, well the heat sink is loose you should tight it up then it will work, well i hope so that it shouldo work, 1st put some weight on the heat sink both on gpu's and processor if it does not give red lights meaning its heat is sink is loose and then tighten it up

  • @noumanmarwat u need help with your xbox 360?

  • @Tylerstoessel yep seriously i tried to fix it up my self but it went even worse XD

  • @noumanmarwat what heatsinks you got the old ones or new and do you have the x-clamps or screws and did u clean the fans?

  • @Tylerstoessel they are the old ones, i still have the x claps , heatsinks and fans both are clean

  • @noumanmarwat ok buy the new heatsinks make sure they come with screws if they don't u can still buy them that is if u got ebay then u can buy those heatsinks and screws then use aractic silver 5 if you get those new heatsink if you don't make sure the old heatsink are clean and look under the motherboard there is 4 chips they need to have something on them keep them cool the best stuff is what u use on windows to block any air coming in I can't think of the name of it.

  • @noumanmarwat make sure everything is clean on the xbox 360

  • its busted mate, get a new one

  • lmao 15 seconds in it tricks u =P

  • just clean your fans with q tips an alchol

  • i was playin mw2 online then it happened, im guessing its my room from all the smoke, but im able to play half a game before it goes 2 rings on me.....

Why does xbox have all these problems?

Xbox neeeds to step its game up before there income decreases in sales in its next console.

  • i had the same shit ,and all i did i adjusted the heat sinks the x-clamps lost connection withe the chips ,anyway it's working now

  • Or you can simply call the xbox360 repair.

  • Or, remove the case and find a fuckin cooler in there, it has dust, now, remove it, remove the dust with a clean non wet cloth.

  • O.K> I has know what to do, First you unplug the cable connected to the box, plug out the plug from the supply power, and now pull out the plug from the elect. outlet. Now, plug it in the elect. outlet, plug it in the power thing, and now into da box, Now START!

  • i have put the fix on modders heaven ........search xbox 360 modders heaven ....once in there its under forum then xbox 360 modding tut

  • @TERMINATOR2452 Tried it, totally didn't work. It was after my X-clamp fix that it started doing this to me, and I can't reset it by overheating it because it stops running as soon as I turn it on.

  • dude that sux!!

  • whats exactly what mine does

  • xbox-experts[dot]com/tutorial/cut-the-cpu-temp-trace/

  • Send it to me I will pay you $60-80 USD for it.

  • i got that and i noticed that it was partially unplugged so i turned it off, plugged it in and turned it back on and it was fine i hope this helped :)

  • Over heated i think

  • solution : cut the cpu temp trace and it will work. i have done it and now it works pefect.

dont worry about the fan speed , it will work fine without the cpu trace

    xbox-experts[dot]com/tutorial/cut-the-cpu-temp-trace/

  • and for all the thermal paste comments, i tried and put on the gpu heatsink without therma paste and it started and then the fan strarted to speed up, but it worked for around 1 min.

and if the error right after startup it help to heat the cpu with a hot air a little bit, but the error will apear again

  • i got that same problem

  • buy aPS3 slim

  • hmm my console's weird n the lights display on the top when horizontal.

  • Here is how I fixed this problem. Turning on the console, the GPU is cooled, you need to get it HOT enough to make it work... as soon as u turn on the console it shows the 2 lights and turns off so it will never gets hot enough. first, fix the x-clamp (search on youtube) then use a hair dryer to heat the GPU (the one that is under the DVD) turn on the XBOX, it should show the 3 red lights and then the 2 red lights. turn it off or, disconnect it, let it rest for 30 minutes and enjoy.

  • @kuvrio i hope ur correct. i will try this 2mmorow

  • @kuvrio oh that did work

  • anyone help me?when i play mw2 search in like 10 min its 2 red lights for me

  • Since it happens immediately on startup, the problem is most likely to be poor contact between CPU/GPU and the heatsink(s). Pull them off, clean off all the old thermal compound, and replace w/ Arctic Silver #5. I have done a lot of reading on this and just fixed mine via this method.

  • 2 red lights mean a overheated console!

  • @TheCarGuy1231 no, it could also mean a loose heatsink

  • and that aswell!

  • @TheCarGuy1231 at start up

  • i hate people that repeats me the same fucking thing every single day of my life:

i always sear on google how to fix this problem and wuest what i get?

"2 red lights means its over heated"

fuck you people you dont even know how frustrating is just playing like 10 minutes

  • @Cheelenes very true this keeps happing to me what u are talking about and everyone just dont play it for to long but i cant play at all!!!

  • @IAM2THEASSASSIN hey me 2 im fukin ova it ive pulled it apart 23 times and ive owned it 1 day it suks man

  • Thats pretty gay.

  • just tighten the heatsinks

  • make sure that the heat sinks are really tight but not to tight

  • heat sinks we arnt in mech warrior you know

  • I managed to get mine to work eventually once I could get the heatsinks to heat up but i am now trying to do it on a friends and it cuts out before it can heat up. Any ideas??

  • 2 red lights means it was overheated

  • That disc drive sounds bad ass. j/k it sounds like fuck.

  • so your sayin my disc drive is fucked?

  • i have the solution to your problems .......the 2 red lights is caused by the cpu over heating wen the cpu over heats it gets off the board and cuts off power to everything. so wat u need to do is get a heat gun and heat the cpu for about 20 mins and do the x-clamp fix and heat it again so it gets on the board properly

  • I'm pretty sure that the 2 lights mean that the console overheated, and it will remain like that until it cools down and you'll be able to play agian

  • omg same happend to me a sec ago was on cod 4 and it just froze now i aint got a xbox :(((

  • this shit just happend to me 2 mins ago am well pissed off lyk i just got my elite back from microsoft because ov the 3 red lights wtf

  • you must get a coller or blow all teh dut uot than your fine

  • SAME THING HAPPENS TO MINE!!!!! have u fix it?

  • i no how 2 fix it message me i will tell u how 2 fix

  • how do u fix it?

  • i'm about to fix the xclamps on my xbox and do the arctic 5 glue on it, what next if the 2 red lights still appear????

  • i got it too but i fixed and it did it again while playin games but then i called up microsoft and they said it is too close to another electronic and it turns out that electronic was my ps3 so i moved my ps3 and then my 360 worked fine after that so yeah try that and if thats not it it is probably OVERHEATED!!!!

  • this is my second xbox this year, when i turn on my xbox in less than three seconds the fans go into supersonic mode , i already did the x-clamp and thermal , plz help....

  • @L3attlerif that because u possbile forgot the white plastic shit between the fans and heatsinks

  • @L3attlerif same here :(

  • @L3attlerif u still need help with your xbox 360?

  • @L3attlerif

it is a problem with the CPU,GPU.

    not the x-clamp,thermal

  • listen before the red lights appear.....the fans go 87mph good thing not 88 otherwise your xbox would go bye bye

  • for everyone having this problem, just apply new thermal paste to the chips (do the x clamp fix if you want but you dont have to) or you'll keep getting the 2 lights no matter how cold the 360 is. trust me.

  • did both. as well as used compressed air to get all the dust out of heat sinks and other crefices even did the penny fix as well... any other pointerS? I checked. after the couple seconds when i turn it on. i did it like 10 - 20 times and then checked all around the xbox to see if anything felt warmer than everything else and everything was still room temp. any ideaa?

  • Dude I have the same problem. I fix it for like 2 minutes then it goes back to 2 rings =/ I press the controller locater button or w/e and the disk opener and hold it for like 15 seconds but when Iturn it back on it'll go to the rings after a minute x_x

  • yeah like everyone else is saying it dirty on the inside and the fans dont work right to cool it down so it overheats. having the same problem. trying to fix now.

  • ya ill play any game for as long as i want but when i play cod5 i get two red rings after like 5 min no matter what

  • cod 5 anyother game it's to same for me max is 10 mins lol

  • that's just dust, it's only a big problem if it's instant

  • if i play fallout 3 i never get this but if i play a guitar hero game i get 2 lights after about 3 minutes

  • morons the reason alot of people get this problem is because they get the 3 red rings and the y try to fix it by putting the silicon based compound on the chips and when they put it back together they get this same problem. happened to me and i still can't fix it

  • maybe your just retarded

    dumbass

  • hahahaha i got the same problem...i tried to fix my xbox from overheating and when i put it back 2getha i get 2 rings.i clean off all the compound or 'thermal paste' off.....i didnt have any...is there MEANT to be thermal paste or what.also when i asked the guy at the hardware store for thermal paste he looked at me like i was retarted...

  • jahhaha i got the same problem : P

  • this one video told me to remove it, now mine has this problem. I think i need thermal paste thanks to that asshole . Where do u buy it?

  • ebay is a good place to start. However, it's not always a quality brand and then you pay a fuck load in shipping. If your area has a Fry's Electronics or any well known big box electronics store in your area call tomorrow and ask if they sell Arctic Silver 5. That is top of the line brand that will last and last.

  • fixed it a while back, went to a computer store haha it was 8$ for the smallest tube (which is very very small)

  • @MattyMorgan31, its not thermal paste or compound but infact both, thermal compound is the actual term for it.

  • all you have to do is take off your x clamps and make sure you put a nice even coat of silicon based heat sink compund, i had same promlem and i just did that and now it's fine.

  • I have this same problem and i took out the x clamps and put arctic silver on it and tried it and it did this.I had e74 error before and thats why i took the clamps off

  • i've got the same problem

  • it is hot and it is dirty

  • 99% is the dust

  • dnt u just put a air compreser into the holes?

  • there might be dust in the heat sinks go through it with a vacume

  • Mine have the same problem!!!!! PLEAE ANYONE CAN HELP US??????

  • well there many causes about this like living consoles in a rug, in the bed, in the sofa and on places were the back part (were the fans are) can't release the hot air so those are some preventions but a fix up they haven't really found it

  • mine does the same thing!!!

  • I have no idea why the 360 would do this at start up, but its not right. make sure nothing is near a source of heat, including the power box.

  • i brought some new fans they work perfect but not any more my xbox 360 makes a loud fan noise at start but doesnt go red ring 30 mintues later is does

  • iv got this problem now and every time i turn it on my xbox gets loud and turns off so i fort i might try and fix it but i couldnt then i found out whats the problem message me if u would like 2 no:)

  • all u should do is open up the casing, vacuum or are blast all the dust out and then lever the casing off and i works a treat, i also got an external fan just to keep it ice cold :) have fun gaming problem free.

  • its the red rings of death. depending on how many rings u can tell which hardware problem that your xbox 360 has. 2 rings mean that your xbox 360 is completely overheated. you have to leave your xbox 360 off for several hours to let it cool off. make sure that when you play it, you have alot of ventlation in the room. if that dosent work., call microsoft to get it fixed

  • mine does the same thing can someone tell me how to fix it

  • go look at my video of it it show in more detail +a breef coment showing how 2 fix

  • you need apply thermal paste in the chips to fix :-)

  • What Chips? can you check out my 360 Vid please.

  • lol ur an idiot

  • Fuck off

  • thermal paste on the chips inside the x box theres going to be like 100

  • mine does the same thing, but I don't know how to fix it. :(

  • tighten ur smaller heat sink

  • Where is the heatsink :p

  • In side............

  • i posted a video that is the same thing a little but diffrent but it is the same thing just it showes the ring at the begining insted of a litle after the green

  • Put it in a window so the hot air comes out

  • Mine did the same thing. New-ish Elite, overheating, did the x-clamp repair. Afterwards started, ran a couple of hrs-all ok. Restarted and got 2 lights, just like you. Not overheating! 2 lights, fast fan, at startup. Put the xclamps back on. ran ok for a while, then same thing. Found that you just need to reposition GPU heat sink. The motherboard is detecting a loose heatsink. Loosen hardware, reposition Heatsink, retighten screws evenly, so that the heatsink seats into GPU evenly. It fixed it.

  • Henrymart, I got the same problem. How do you access the GPU? How do you reposition the heatsink and all that? I've been trying to fix my xbox lately and nothing is working. Please, I really need help. Thanks.

  • To access the GPU, need to do the typical RROD repair you see here-open case, take off xclamps, clean heat sink compound, apply new compound, put back together. If still 2 RROD, loosen screws holding GPU heat sink and just wiggle it. The GPU needs to find a ground through heatsink. Don't use a lot of heatsink compound->amount = grain of rice. Also, if you've got the heatsink off, try polishing the area on the heatsink that touches the GPU. On computer heatsinks, the heatsink has a mirror finish.

  • man, which screws are you talking about? the ones where the x-clamps hook onto?

  • Yes, the x-clamp screws hold the heatsink to the GPU and the CPU. just loosed whatever screws you have on the gpu xclamp, wiggle the heatsink a bit, then evenly re tighten the screws.

  • henrymart, if overheat after turn on and its mean CPU or GPU heatsinks are loose. and need replace xclamp and thermal. if its not work mean xbox 360 was fried or chipsets were damaged.

  • MINE DOSE THE VERRY SAME THING

  • mine does the exact same thing

  • mine dont even show green lights at all it just goes fast and goes starait to 2 red rings and then one time i got a 3 red ring so idk i want to see if some one wil help

  • lol mine does the same thing but the green lights dont even turn on in time. please help

  • *EDIT OF ALL EDITS* I have successfuly repaired my xbox by hand without sending it to Microsoft. If you wish to know how to fix it, PM me.

  • Yo how do you fix the 2 red lights

i think it has to do with my x-clamps

    can you help me!!

  • u need a new fan

  • I fixed this the same day I posted the video it was

    A overheating problem...

  • How did you fix it exactly? Mine keeps doing this as well.

  • Ok noobs I found a pl0x that will fix this. First of all, if your xbox wont turn off, unplug it moron. Captain DUH right there. For anyone who needs help with the 2 red lights on startup, PM me because I FINALLY fixed this problem.

  • it hasnt happenned to me yet but my 360's gettin really hot how do i stop the lights in future

  • Get an air compressor, or a can of compressed air and blow the living hell out of the fans in the back, open the disk drive (unplug after opening of course) and blow out disk drive) spray in bottom and top (remove hard drive too) because thats where the air intakes are. When blowing the fans out be sure they dont spin too fast because you can break them if you do.

  • *EDIT* Be sure that you hold the can UPRIGHT otherwise you will shoot NXE out and freeze the board. That is bad.

  • i opened my xbox and fixed the rrod now when i turn it on it give me 2 red lights then shutdown how do i fix this?

  • yeah i'm having the same problem. does anyone know how to fix it?

  • what do i do to fix the 2 red lights?

  • My elite was doing the same thing. did the xclamp mod; new paste, screws instead of x clamps-2 lights at startup. took off nylon washers (don't use nylon washers. the circuitry apparently needs the heatsinks grounded). turned on, came on, after a while 2 lights again. restarted then 2 at startup. when off, hold eject and then press the sync button repetedly ( I think 3x) until green.
