Caballe is superb in this role, as she usually is in every role she sings. Sills owns the role, but Caballe is still magnificent!

For me, Caballe as Queen Elizabeth I in Deveraux isn't any good. She doesn't thrill me like Leyla Gencer, Beverly Sills or even Dimitra Theodossiou. She's boring!! She never gets into character. I also have issues with this costume. Looks nothing like Queen Elizabeth I of England, looks more like Isabella of Spain. Caballe's better as Norma, Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda, Lucrezia, Puritani and Pirata. But Deveraux wasn't for her.

She really is superb here. The legato, long breath control, pianissimo notes, and dark passages are admirable. Great.

Beverly Sills owns this role and remains the definitive interpreter.

Devia and Gruberova remain miles, miles behind.

this has to be the ultimate listening experience. we are in the precence of genius!! for an audience to be transported to another level by an artist is truly a gift and here that is certainly the case. what a magnificent woman, her legato and piano notes a legend and for me the ultimate voice.

Il existe deux versions de ce Roberto d'Aix: la générale filmée (c'est ce que nous voyons) et l'enregistrement de la dernière. Il faut reconnaître qu'en ces années où Montse pensait à Turandot etc la voix est moins sûre, certains incidents mineurs surviennent. C'est vrai aussi dans sa Norma de la SCala en janvier. Mais si ce n'est plus la Fenice de 1972 (un enregistrement inouï) cela reste sublime et remet Gruberova et autres à leur place.

Gentile Sediziose Voci : la Signora Caballè non ha cessato di essere "grande" nel 1975 come lei asserisce ma almeno un decennio più tardi -- in quanto a compararla nella durata di Carriera con la Devia , questo non è possibile - nella gola della Devia è passato un Repertorio "ristretto" mentre la Caballè ha cantato di tutto , da Salomè alla Stuarda alla Tosca etcetera ed inoltre penso sia più "anziana" della Devia di almeno 15 anni ......ma non si può compararLe, troppo "diverse" !

La Caballè non cesserà mai di essere grande ... I miti sono tali per l'eternità !!! Per quanto mi riguarda mi accontenterei di qualsiasi cosa cantasse ancora, anche se cantasse le istruzione di un detersivo, certe voci non hanno età.

I love this whole scene. At 3:12 stars one of my favorite Donizetti melodies. And then to have Caballe sing it with her gorgeous tone and amazing pianissimos; well, it just doesn't get any better than this.

She's fantastic in this role. I think she's (beside Gruberova and Devia) best Donizetti queen ever! Have 2 versions of Devereux with her, both are great.

That IS the "real and Great" Monserrat Caballé , the Queen of Bel Canto !!! We are fare too fare from this today with "our new stars" ......They have nothing to do with this Artistry !!!! Brava Caballé,Sills,Sutherland,Calla­s,Gencer,Horne,Bonynge....and etc....Dear new "singers" it is just time to take some good lessons from this!!!!

Meravigliosa ,vero ?!? Non pensabile che un essere umano arrivi a tanta meraviglia !! E ditelo alla Devia di raggiungere questi livelli di perfezione tecnica, espressiva .. e di riuscire ad "ipnotizzare" il Pubblico come faceva la DIVINA Monserrat !! Monsita , quanto ci manchi...quando avremo un'altra Diva che come tè ci ha trascinato nei Paradisi dell'Arte ?!!

Beh diciamo che, senza nulla togliere all'immensa arte della Caballe, la Devia l'ha superatoa in quanto a tecnica. Infatti sta ancora cantando, dopo una carriera di quasi 40 anni. Non mi sembra che dopo il 1975 la Caballe` si sia coperta di gloria, vocalmente.

@sediziosevoci la Devia ha avuto la capacità di affinare la tecnica portandola avanti negli anni ma la cosa l'ha anche resa fredda e "troppo tecnica", quasi inespressiva...meglio una Caballè che non è perfetta e ogni tanto sbaglia riga ma è molto più vera ed espressiva.
