It was a chaotic time - Hitler did sway a demoralized Germany it could become a great empire again. People wanted to believe in something so they followed a very convincing public speaker. Italy itself was lead by a tyrant of a man as well. Most people just followed where their leaders lead... few questioned "Where?"

Men who fight and die for their country do deserve respect for being brave and laying down their lives on a battlefield for their country. My grandfather's unit in North Africa shot down a German Messerschmidt, and as they approached the crashed plane, the pilot jumped out and said in perfect English to "move away from the front of the plane, as the guns have a habit of going off without warning". The majority of soldiers in World War 2 were honourable gentlemen.

wrong ! german soliders went to poland and attack a few poland soliders and took their clothes and slipped back to germany border and attack it - this was only an order from hitler who wanted to take over the world so anyway other countries thought that poland attacked germany.... then hitler ordered an attack to poland-this time the real one so poland made allies (russia,england...) i know that and i'm 14 and im not a nerd so.... have a nice day :)

My grandfather's unit in North Africa shot down a German Messerschmidt, and as they approached the crashed plane, the pilot jumped out and said in perfect English to "move away from the front of the plane, as the guns have a habit of going off without warning". The majority of soldiers in World War 2 were honourable gentlemen.

However, most of the German soldiers in WWII were not nazis, they were normal people like me and you who were conscripted into the German army. Even higher up in the ranks not everyone was a Nazi, just look at Erwin Rommel who defied a direct order from Hitler to kill the jews he captured.
I do not ask you to respect nazis, only that you respect soldiers who fought and died for their country.

@KingofFacepalm true, but the way i look at it is if the nazis won the war our allied soldiers would be hated, disrespected and most importantly the propaganda would blame the allies for all the war crimes like concentration camps etc. so although i agree with you i think that hating and disrespecting all the nazis isnt even half as bad as what they would be saying about us now if they won the war.

I´m sorry but Erwin Rommel must be one of the worst examples to use when promoting the true fact that not all Wehrmacht Soldiers where Nazis. Rommel was a nazi who expressed deep feelings of admiration of his "Fuehrer". There where several high ranking officers who did not agree with the nazis such as von Witzleben, Beck, Guderian and others who are better examples to show this.

This song reminds me of my grandpa who fought in D-day, he was a sapper sent swimming across the water from the ships to the shore under heavy fire from the German machine gun nests to clear the barricades and ship-wreckers that prevented the boats from landing. It's the invisible heroes who never get recognized who make the difference and I'm proud to be related to one.

You can say all you want about the ''bad'' and ''good'' soldiers in WWII.
My family is Italian, they fought against the British in Africa.
They did not fight for Hitler or his allies.
They fought to defend their country, family and land from the invaders.
After these battles passed most of the Italian soldiers joined the British and I know 10 of my family members were at D-Day, 6 of them got killed.
So what were they ? Good or bad ?
Or just men trying to protect what they love instead of ideals?

@SkullKing11841 Dont worry I dont take it as something negative, yes ur right they did attack, but the troops in these divisions just followed orders because their commanders said that the British were planning large scaled attacks on Italian soil and also attacks on their allies ( the Germans etc ) so they attacked and later had to defend, but I guess everybody attacks in war and everybody has to defend those are the basics of war I believe

@AgentTasmania Actually at first they were taking back the land poland took from them the treaty of versailles they decided to retalliate so he kept pushing through to prove their military excellence which is when they introduced the SS (State Security aka hitlers body guards) and then they made an agreement with stalin to take over some of the czech republic but they accidentley broke through the russian line so they had to protect themselves but they ended up getting raped.
