This song is beautiful, but its painful because of how someone could relate.

The lyrics can be interpreted more than one way. For instance, I think of it this way: The girl in this song has been hurt by a guy and is trying to get over him. She's trying to show on the outside it was only a paper cut, and a small amount of hurt, but on the inside she's disintegrating, its cutting her up. Its painful. And sad to say, I know how the girl feels.
