The weight-per-inch on these swords is actually fairly similar that of shinai. However many shinai are about 40" long. These sword are about 36" long.
In Kendo the legs are not a valid target. We allow the entire body as a valid target.
We use prefer to use padded sparring weapons so that we can use full force swings while still minimizing injuries.
