the impreza has a inline-6 flat engine (boxer engine) which has a lower centre of gravity and less prone to engine vibrations which makes it very stable. thats why takumi finds it so easy to drive and critisizes the impreza for it. Bunta says takumi will be in the slump because takumi knows that overall the impreza's performance is better than his ae86 in everyway

@Polish1Mafia yes he is wrong for the engine lol..in the anime Takumi drifting style is not same as we defined. remember in the steering taping death match ? he learned to shift the car weight to cope with the corner so that the car turn by the weight shift not steering. beside that during the season that AE86 replaced a new engine Bunta redo all setting of AE86. so i would presume that Bunta will readjust all the setting of the Subaru to fit their style. so with AWD it will outrun AE86 in anime

what I predict, Takumi's ending of the Initial D series would be when he steps out the Japan GT track as a matured racing driver, but that's what I thought. 5th stage, could be his last. Impreza is a class A 4WD & the lightest among racing sedan chassis. I'm not surprised he won't be using his AE86 anymore because to upgrade his racing skills he needs a better machine. Loved it since the first stage.

in the latest Volume of the manga that I have read Vol 37, Takumi has yet to Race the Impreza. he does drive it a whole bunch though, so it might not be out of the question that he might get into an unofficial battle when driving it one day.

dude an 86 can only do so much man, a stalk evo has more power all ready. once your skill is to high you need a better car, the 86 is like a trainer car. yeah its the ecu that makes it go that high. what makes it quick is the car dosent weigh enything. that can be a bad thing too because the rear of the car will give out thats what n2 racers say, there pros. and about the skill thing, whats better than having skil and an evo like my bro that kicks my ass all the time!!! i have to upgrade

The AE86 makes 240hp if i remember correctly, and the Impreza only has an aftermarket exhaust and a chip upgrade/ecu upgrade. So it definitly has more than the stock 280hp that it came out.
