  • I just puked up a rainbow listening to this.

  • thumbs up if you were listening to this in a playlist, and didn't even realize it was radiohead

    (great performance btw)

  • Posers

  • Reasons why this is not nearly as good as Joy Division or New Order's version: 1. The main guitar part sounds a little bit too distorted or forced.

    2. Thom Yorke's voice honestly just ruins it for me. I feel like he is trying too hard to sound like Ian Curtis and it just doesn't work nearly as well.

  • @velvetcat that's why it's a cover dude, because it's not the original. i mean, it have to sound different

anyway joy division's is one million times better, but that's it, it's radiohead, get over it.

  • @darkorules Yes I understand that, I was merely pointing out the things in the song that I think don't work. The main thing is Thom's voice

  • @velvetcat Thom's definitely doing an Ian Curtis impression. They were just goofing around here.

  • mint

  • Im always impressed by the drummers ability to keep pace with Stephen morris this had to be a tough song to play

  • Is there a way to download this track as an mp3? or can i find it/buy it somewhere?

  • @sebremit

download the video with realplayer and convert it to mp3

  • @budwow Or you can download it from sterogum.com. They have all mp3s of Radiohead covers.

  • I see London I see France I seen someones under pants

  • 17 people are in denial!

  • thom's tone is awesome. is he just using a muff?

  • Now what!? Encore of course ;)

  • If I had to pick any band to cover joy division/new order it would be radiohead

  • Galaxie 500 does it better

  • @heyman231000 no, their version is too slooooow

  • Lovely!!! Makes me like Radiohead a lot more

  • Phil's going to need a break after playing this, his exertion is a testament to Stephen Morris's skills.

Amazing how well they were able to reproduce the raw sound of warsaw/joy division/new order.

  • cant hear the HH.. that is the essence of this shit mr music turn that shit up will u!?!?!?>!?!?!??!? fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • @weezerfootie theres another vid that sounds better mate. just search it.

  • @jdkit sweet bloda.. thanks :) but this song does rock doesn't it

  • good job..

  • i radiohead stupendi

  • I love Joy Division ... I love New Order ... and I love Radiohead ... great job!

  • Sorry, I'll take the New Order version every day of the week. You want to hear a great cover, listed to Smashing Pumpkins do "Never Let Me Down Again" by Depeche Mode.

  • seeing musicians like them play, so serious and passionate to create beauty, is just as good as seeing passionate couples making love.

  • Galaxie 500's cover of this song is my favorite. They some how make this song psychedelic! Check it out. Not as good as the original but an amazing take on it..

  • this just might be the best thing ever

  • radiohead playing guitars. man i miss that.

  • @mikeoconn damn, they are so good at it too

  • @mikeoconn guitars are for the weak.

  • @vinrainbows you're weak. what are you some long bony-fingered, frail pianist? well done.

  • @mikeoconn hahahaha! Was jokin'! I'm a guitarist. But I love every Radiohead's album =)

  • i love this

  • joy division! great cover! to much feeling

  • Well new order is the best but this is nearly better.

  • This is as near to perfect as a cover can be, and I'm not even a huge Radiohead fan.

  • amazing

  • It almost pains me to say it, but this is almost better than the original. Fantastic. For those saying it's 'sloppy', then I want sloppy seconds. My balls would rub against my stomach if I heard this live in person.

  • @vietnamsounds You cannot say this is better than joy division, the original. I agree with your balls rubbing against stomach statement however nothing is better than joy division, although radiohead do a good job. I love radiohead, however I don't think you can say this is as good as the original - it's the same. Search the a live version with Ian, and you will be smothered in his raw pure emotion, or one with Bernard will even do. RIP Ian Curtis

  • God I fucking love this.

  • When bands cover a song, it's not always their intention to do a better version than the original, but just to interpret it in their own way. Thanks for posting.

  • this is radio head TrUe HAIL TO THE THIEF now we get some honesty but hey would not have them any other way !

  • this is the best version of this song ever recorded.

  • @TheFifteenthStep No, its the best cover of this song ever done.

  • ian > thom...

    yep i just wrote that.

  • @MG53895 ok i respectfully disagree troll :)

  • @MG53895. Ian curtis was the man and had a great sound. but this statement right here is just pure madness. how do you sleep at night man

  • @aye1354 on a bed? no question ian was a better front man. thoms dancing can be easily compared to Ian, except Ians was 20+ years earlier and he had a better excuse for it. im not tring to get into a pissing match here i do like RH.

  • This sounds like a recorded version. If it's live, it's damn near perfect.

  • @obunkystaind ever seen radiohead live!? ;)

  • @f1471in3r :( no

  • @obunkystaind this is how radiohead do it my friend :)

  • @atadon cheers :D

  • @obunkystaind well its both. Its obviously in a studio incorporating many "studio" techniques - see the drummer separated in a booth? But (given its really one take as it appears) its live in the sense that they are all playing together and doing it in one take. No overdubs redoing parts later after putting down the basic tracks. So, its both.

  • @sequoia225 nice intake. thanks :)

  • @obunkystaind Have you ever heard Radiohead live, or live recordings from Radiohead? They always sound either perfect or actually better than their studio recording. They are 100% the real deal in everything they do, and have my deepest admiration both as composers and as performers : ).

  • Sloppy.

  • becuse this is live sound dumb ass

  • It's a cover, you can't compare it to New Order's versions, they wrote it, at least the music

  • @pantapdiazho - You're correct. And on closer viewing, he's there in snippets - on 33, 54, 3:04 - although that's his Precision Bass Ed's playing.

  • Note perfect.

  • Where's Colin?

  • @thelex001 Donno, Ed's playing Bass apparently.

  • @ xenokinetic: I want to say I remember seeing Ed play bass when Colin worked keyboards on Hail to the Thief tour, but now I'm not sure...

  • @thelex001 you are correct, sir! I also caught the HTTT tour and apparently the parts were "to involved what with the slide-pitch-synth and all of the different effects/switching within a(ny) given song" for Thom to keep up with and concentrate on singing...(read that in an interview w/Thom some years ago).....but you are 100% Cheers!

  • @thelex001 i think you can see him at @ 3:26

  • Musically energetic. Vocally? Like dead fish floating. (Or Michael Buble singing and floating.)

  • a tribute of the highest order...

  • Simply amazing!!! Brilliant on every way possible!!

  • for a webcast, this is great quality

  • love whenever Thom smiles

  • are the thumbs down on this video supposed to be ironic?

  • I ain't even mad. I am going to press replay at least six times, learn the song, and then proceed to plague my building's cement staircase with it. Everybody will know every second of it for the rest of their lives. What Now?

  • Forever watching Oprah?

  • This is a competent cover and I can understand how some may prefer the vocal, but New Order has better bass, better rhythm and a better feel to it. IMO, New Order's versions are still the best.

  • I was responsible for 196,428 of those views

  • Not a bad cover I must say and I'm a JD/NO big time fan.

  • Wow! I think I just cried... great cover of a great song.

  • It was originally a song by Joy Division yeah, but New Order filled in the unknown blanks in the lyrics as what they thought it originally was.

This is an excellent cover though!

  • I think Tom has started to sing this record trying to get closer to Ian Curtis .. then evolving into what is the difference heat of Radiohead.

    wonderful

  • if they ever played this live and i was to whitness it, i might as well kill myself afterwards because life couldn´t possibly get any better.

  • colin rocks this

  • Wow, 632 deaf people and enough comments to make me need therapy. Who would have thought Thom Yorke better than Ian Curtis.

  • One of the greatest covers of all time. I would love to see them do this live. What a treat that would be!

  • Radiohead play this song better than the new order ...

Ian Curtis was an accomplished poet. Song full of energy

  • Lmao ! 4:39 - You Can Hear Horse Racing !

  • Heaven knows its got to be this time...

  • fantastic!!!!!!

  • unfuckingbelieveable!

  • Adorable it in the end when Thom says with smile, "now what?"

  • wow this is fucking outstanding-cried when I heard it...

  • Love this version, my name is because of this song(original)

  • to argue about a comparision of the original and this one is stupid.

Radiohead does a excellent job, the uploads on youtube of the orinigal doen't make sense

  • As much as I love Ian Curtis, I'm gonna be honest and say I like this version better. Yorke is just a better vocalist, and that's all there is to it.

  • @southparkster93 No way.

  • @Empyriumman Hey dude, I know. I think I'm as crazy as you do, but I'd be lying if I didn't say it.

  • @southparkster93 It's good to be honest

  • @southparkster93 WTF are you talking about? Even the guitar is wrong the original has way more edge to it. They fucks at Radiohead can stick to Karma Police and Creep with their progressive failed noise . . .

  • Your A Fucking Idiot, Stop Trolling

  • Radiohead !! my god they are awesome. the drummer is 20/20

who'ld dared this???? after Ian Curtis and new order????

  • Radiohead !! my god they are awesome. the drummer is 20/20

  • As near to perfection as one can get!

  • The best version of this song

  • i cannot get over how amazing this is. great combination!

  • 3:13 : the lemon approves.

  • what else can you expect in your life?

  • well done

  • Actually the intro riff is originally a bass part. Lots of stuff that would normally be guitar parts are played on Bass in Joy Division songs.

  • this version is even better !!

  • Thumbs Down webcast?????

This is fuckin thumbs up man!!!!

  • :'( BEAUTIFUL

  • is Ed and Colin playing bass or is it just Ed and colin's playing guitar?

  • @23lFrench Ed and Colin switched on this one. Colin's playing the intro riff, and that's definitely a guitar part.

  • Didn't think it'd be possible to top the Joy Division/New Order versions but this is stunning. Good Curtis impersonation. Hope he doesn't take it too far...

  • This is one of the best covers ever done.

  • @swaggs completely perfect

  • Long Live Joy Division <3

    Ian Curtis <3

  • what are you people talking about this is terrible

  • @TINCI77 GO fuck and THEN kill yourself. Thx.

  • This is simply outstanding. So much closer to the Joy Division live sound than Martin Hannett's production.

  • @wfifield Joy Division was Martin Hannett's production.

  • @ThereIsARain read my post again, then listen to the second half of Still

  • Comment removed

  • @wfifield HANNETT WAS A GENIUS !

  • @tindaloot never said he wasn't, dummy. reading comprehension fail

  • I am looking to put this song on a CD... any ideas????

  • @StevJame

Bauhaus/ Peter Murphy, Joy Division and The Smiths coud work.

    Siouxsie and the Banshees too.

  • This video always makes me cry. Too beautiful.

  • I think this is the best cover of this song. It's just my opinion. I just like hearing the guitars, I hope they smashed them up after this!

  • singing with Ian Curtist style :D

  • this makes me smile

  • This one is for Matt J.

  • probably one of the few bands that would have any credibility covering this classic ... great cover

  • My two favourite bands colliding. Love It

  • i hate when two things i love colide because then i feel like nothing else matters .

  • es de Joy division no de new order

  • RADIOHEAD IS MULTIFUNTIONAL

    HOLY COWW

  • I need to watch this every three months or so.

  • Ed on Bass!

  • respect

  • Shall I rephrase my comment?

"Love Joy Division, New Order, and Radiohead. Great cover."

Okay, now we can all go home.

  • he's not in this vid, but R.I.P. Ian Curtis......

he wouldve liked Radiohead i bet...

  • Is this on one of Radioheads albums?

  • of course it's not as good as the original JD/New Order versions, but it's a great cover of my favorite song by one of my favorite bands

  • originally recorded by joy division but what a fucking cover

  • I have the whole Thumbs Down webcast on my profile :D.

  • Just wanted to make a point that New Order was formed from Joy Division following the death of Ian Curtis. The bassist Peter Hook was the key guy with the catchy bass line who was in both bands.

  • Now why is Ed playing bass?

  • now to hear them do Age of Consent...

  • Double WOWSERS! 5*****! 10 pts!

  • Nice version. Very true to the original. Joy Division forever.

  • If by 'Great' you mean 'Really close to the original' then this is great...

  • dude, they put new order when it should have been new order AND joy division.

funny he's singing the was ian would,

with him holding the mic close when he sings.

  • WOW, they nailed it. Fully captured the spirit of this song. SWEEEEET!

  • new order......fantastic...love the vocals...lol....but the rest is class...as are radiohead!

  • amazing cover by Radiohead.<3

  • awesome

  • brilliant cover of a brilliant band

  • Love Joy Division, love this song, love the New Order proper version...but also love this version - keeps the legend alive..so much passion and energy exhibited - think they might be the modern day exponents of what JD would have become...

  • Como cover no es malo (obviamente tiene un toque propio de Radiohead y así debe ser con todas las bandas que hace covers), pero a mí no me gusta!!!

  • Covers aren't usually meant to surpass the original work. I think artists want to pay tribute to their heroes by covering them and also want to give a different perspective on a song.

  • @Muzikhead993

I always thought of it in a much more simpler way.

In my case, it's not tu surpass the original work like you said, but it's because it is quite fun to play your favorite songs with your band. When it sounds like the way you want it and even if you find a way to play it that you like even more than the original, fuck it, if it is better or not is relative in terms of tastes.

It's just fun to do covers. I'll cover this song too eventually, it's great song.

  • I agree dude

  • Masterpiece!!!

    The real Radiohead...

Thanks Ian for this song... We Love You!!! Rest In Peace!!!

  • thanks JOY DIVISION for this song and not only Ian , Ian are not joy division , joy division are joy division

  • an actual good cover..

Radiohead has done this song justice ^^
