Declaring independence was a last resort for the colonists. The south barely tried anything else before deciding on war. Before independence, the colonists were fighting for representation in Parliament. The south had more representation in Congress than they even deserved.

Slavery would have ended regardless of the war.

"Maryland" In 1864 passed Article 24 which outlawed the practice of slavery.

The American Revolution comparison is used on every civil war video too.
Declaring independence was a last resort for the colonists. The south barely tried anything else before deciding on war. Before independence, the colonists were fighting for representation in Parliament. The south had more representation in Congress than they even deserved.

"Maryland" In 1864 passed Article 24 which outlawed the practice of slavery.

Foote's work is written with obvious sympathy for the South, while, at the same time, is careful not to understate the legitimacy of the North's cause. The truth will set you free much like the war did for the slaves.

Lincoln used slavery as an excuse to come to the south which had a good economy. He waged a war for no fucking reason. if he realy wanted to do away with salves why didnt he do what the british did. Buy the slaves from them instead of killing 600,000 people?

he had no logical reason i mean most southerners freed slaves before the war so what else would he have been doing it for. you have got to learn how to think outside the box. you cant just listen to what everyone tells you. do your own independant research look up videos of people talking about their opinions on this and have your own instead of calling the one person who could be right, stupid

@4everUSNavy What you wrote is pure BS. The Confederate politicians made it clear the CSA was created to expand slavery, its in their own documents and speeches. As for freeing a slave, all slave states had a laws that if a freedman stayed on slave soil more then 30 days, he or she was a slave again. You obviously forgot your oath to the US Constitution.

It was not an insurrection. It was a legal secession (As protected by the 10th Amendment). Not a shot was fired until after Lincoln refused to negotiate.

@TheBoberton You're full of shit, 10th Amendment says nothing about states being able to leave the Union. It does say states can't have power already in possession of the Federal government, and that power is sovereignty.

@TheBoberton One last thing, the Constitutionality of an action can only be determined by the SCOTUS. The southern states could have sued in the Supreme Court, they didn't because they knew they'd lose.
