I had the pleasure of seeing them in concert in Buffalo where they opened for Roy Orbison. I enjoyed them a lot and liked the flower tattoo the girl singer wore on her cheek. All in the group were members of the Dedrick family. The father and uncle were jazz musicians. Talented family!
@AcctistaZ - I think the music reflected a mix of things; also don't forget this was a very "mod" fashion time, and I think the music reflected this too.
One sort of imagines that you played this song loud enough in front of Dick Cheney, Glen Beck, or Sarah Palin they'd melt like the Wicked Witch of the West.
The music is a very cheat and the free design is Little known and has nothing is a group of fans porrillero, his music is rather dull and heavy geeral
great song, i've been sharing some of the free design's songs to friends on youtube. doesn't that sound corny, wish that i was cooorrrrnnnneeeee whoa whoa whoa....
The Free Design - an Establishment-friendly toe in hippie-dippy waters for those with families, kids, jobs....
My mom had a couple of their albums, along with Sarah Vaughn, The Carpenters and such. Even at 10 years old in 1970, I was aware her music collection was not "cool", informed as I was by Uncle Bobby (her little brother), my babysitter, etc. A listen to my friend's older brother's Black Sabbath record confirmed that the Free Design, Carpenters, Beatles etc. were gay, too. Ah, youth....
Releasing a single in 5/4 time is always a risky gamble. "Theme From Mission Impossible" and "Living In The Past" were hits, but unfortunately, this and "Grim Reaper Of Love" wasn't. This is the first time I've ever heard this in stereo (for awhile, the monophonic single was up on YouTube). Major ear candy!

Actually, this seemed to be a plea for moderation during the extremes of the 60s ("blow your mind but not completely," "wish that I were corny")

This song reminds me the time when everyone was taking weed and was thinking of "peace"

Great lyrics, interesting arrangement, lush vocals, lots of dynamics, a beautiful recording/engineering, and 3 minutes long. Perfect.

To those unaware, Chris Dedrick, the writer of most of The Free Design songs, sadly died last month of cancer.
The legacy of this wonderful music lives on though !
