  • Is this 3751s original whistle?

  • What would 3751 look in warbonnet scheme?

  • Al Gore and Matt Rose disliked this.

  • I always liked the 3751's 5 chime over her 6 chime. Thought it make her sound bigger & stronger. Any idea why they switched to the panzy 6 chime thats on it now?

  • @EMDX90 Probably because when this was taken, the Santa Fe still owned the engine and now it has different owners.

  • @TommyBNSF actually the Santa Fe did not own 3751 when the trip to Chicago was run. the railroad has not owned it since the 1950's. the railroad donated it to the city of San Bernardino, California when it was retired in 1957. in 1985 the city sold it to the San Berardino Railroad Historical Society. the SBRHS has owned the 3751 ever since then.

  • @EMDX90 The 5 chime is still in storage and can be changed anytime. Send an email to their website next time they run, perhaps they will change it.

  • thelastprimerules - It's not you. That whistle's ridiculously high-pitched.

  • super chief.

  • any other atsf steamers retuening to steam anytime soon?

  • @Strasburg1991 The 2926 should be ready in about 2 years.

  • @Robkat3751 besides 2926

  • @Strasburg1991 ATSF 3415 in Kansas was returned to service justa couple of year's ago.

  • @theUP844 i know that, but im talking about 4-8-4s

  • @Strasburg1991 oh, my bad then

  • @the1americanidiot its ok. i know all about it

  • is it me or is 3751 whistle really high piched?

  • @thelastprimerules It used to have this santa fe 5 chime freight whistle. The one it has now is a 6 chime.

  • @CoasterFan2105 oh ok i have a question i also posted it on your channel should i get the BLI 3751 or get the mth sp daylight its a tough choice

  • Geiles Video Super 5*****

  • great video

  • Nice! The extra 800,000lbs of "dead" diesel engine weight + traction motor drag really gives the steamer a bit more work! (No, the diesel's aren't "helping" the choo-choo")

  • the diesels are equivalent to 7-8 cars, to she's really hauling a twenty car consist.

  • @carltonmasteur

So then, why the hell is the railroad making her pull against 800,000 pounds of diesel weight and traction motor drag? Just get rid of the diesels and let her stretch her legs.

  • That engine looks so beautiful pulling that all-stainless steel train; it's reminiscent of the Super Chief but with steam power. I just prefer the 6-chime whistle to the whistle it has here (sounds like a CB&Q whistle) and if it didn't have the freight diesels behind it, it could go faster than 70 MPH, which I'm sure is the top speed for them. The 3700's could, and have easily hit 100+ speeds back in the day.

  • my last comment got cut off I dont hate steam locomotives I want to see more restored I was refering to hating reality shows not steamers just so the railfan community doesnt get offended by my comment I am a real advocate for savving any steam locomotives

  • now thats a documentry or reality show I would watch and I hate the damn things

  • man that would be great to see especilly a 2-10-4

  • I would actually want to see ATSF 3751 running on some Ex-BN rails

  • Cool video, I like the War-Bonnet diesel locomotives that helped pull the train along with the Santa Fe 3751 steam locomotive. I've been a railroad buff ever since I was a kid, and the love for trains has never left me either.

  • I think 3751 should ALWAYS have warbonnets as helpers instead of just plain old Amtrak locos if you ask me.

  • @railfan101 I agree 100%

  • @xtremepadrefan Thanks! I understand that most folks dislike the diesels that are placed behind the steamer, but having warbonnet locos in the lash-up looks just fine because it pretty much secures the ATSF heritage. I wished they would use warbonnets again.

  • @railfan101 i think 3751 should have the pullman green cars and the warbonnets or another 4-8-4 because there restoring 2926

  • @railfan101 i agree but i don't think the freight units have HEP capability

  • Wow! I wish one of UP's big boys could be restored.

  • if they try to restore one of the big boys it would be a lot of money to be spent and idk if anyone can come up with a couple million dollars

  • beautiful steam engine, and i dig those warbonnets :)

  • does anybody know if they still use that train?

  • yes, they do.

  • Strange, THIS does not sound like an "ATSF 6-Chime" and neither as an "ATSF 5-chime"

    Can anyone explain??

  • '51 is a great engine. I like her 6-chime a lot better than this 5 chime!

  • why dose this locomotive need two dash 8s to pull that train dash 8s have about 4000 hp a pice so whats the need for two how much hp dose this steam loco make and is this the same kinda loco the daylight sp is

  • the diesels are used for electric power for the cars and are there 'just in case' the engine has mechanical problems. They're RARELY used for power!

  • okay but is this the same type of loco the sp uses and how much hp dose one of these make

  • what year will 2926 be back in operation?

  • Oh, keep the politics out of it. You obviously have no sense for nostalgia or politics or reality for that. Go read about the adiabatic process and pass a physics test or keep silent and hide your ignorance

  • Oh, I've got loads of nostalgia. It's Obama who has no sense of nostalgia for steam locomotives. I hope these beautiful locomotives are still able to run after Obama and his envitnomental terrorists take control. Time will tell. Gotta love 3751, and her sister 3759, who pulled the last Santa Fe revenue passenger train back though Cajon Pass back in '55.

  • they need to restore more of these locomotives of course the enviormental safe people would hate it but they look cool

  • God, that would be KICK ASS!

  • Ugh. The whistle it has now is a lot better than this one!

  • looks awsome, the C44-9s made it seem more modern, but the steamer with all the passenger cars...that would look amazing!

  • For the record they were C40-8Ws. The Dash 9s had 600 series numbers but the two engines behind the 3751 were 800 series meaning they're C40-8Ws

  • Forgive my ignorance, but was the Dash 9 available to railroads in 1992? If so, I didn't think they were that old.

  • Those are Dash 8s, Dash 9 bogeys are more square

  • ya dash 9's use the newer GE Hi-adhesion trucks, dash 8's had a curvy truck design

  • The whistle sounds eerie compared to other 3751's that I've heard.

  • not at all it sounds splendid.

  • It does, but it does have a bit of an eerie tone to it. Almost haunting...

  • if any of you guys want to see it run 3751 is going to power an excursion from los angeles to san diego california on sunday June 1st.

  • Just listen to that whistle.........

  • Yep. Don't even need this video, just the sound.

  • I could cry man, its such a great engine

  • I am watching this again and I didn't know that there were two baggage cars on the train.

  • Nice Work

  • I lived in Galesburg, Il in the 40'and 50's. and gotr to watch the red and silver diesels with their passenger consist stop at the depot. And then go by the CB&Q a few blocks away and see their steam engines going through town or working the yards. Best of both worlds. Thanks for the great video.

  • Wonderful. I love American train whistles and the mighty locomotives underneath them!

  • I remember when I was real young renting a video from my Library about this same exact train I believe it was "3751 Employee Appreciation Special Los Angeles To Chicago". The GE Dash 8's were in there as well. The cover featured an shot of the train in the desert. If anyone has any info or know what the real title of the video is please tell me.

  • I hope this comes through again.

  • I doubt it will ever happen again. I think that run will always be it's first and last run through Joliet.

  • Too bad...

  • cool vid. long train

  • I love 3751. Awesome clip.

  • Awsome video. I wish I could have seen that, however recently when the SBRHS brought her out to LA for the week, I had the privalage of being allowed to sit in the engineer seat for a while. I got alot of great pics of her.
