  • lol the queen got a pink spot? ^^

  • all you need is 1 queen bee for the whole component all ten frames or more queens

  • @audayhussain2 I just mix half and half water and sugar, heat it and yurn it till disolved.I have never heard of adding Vit-C

  • The Queen was already marked when we got her. When you order your bee package, request that they mark your queen. Some will do it no charge and some will charge one more dollar.

  • you know harvest honey and sell just like my sister boyfriend do

  • I am curious also, with the queen, how did you find her, and how did you get the purple marker on her? Very carefully I'm sure. :)

  • Everyone should take this hobby up, if possible. It will keep the honeybees around, and consequently, keep us fed and prevent our food supply from dwindling for lack of bees to pollinate everything. :) Long live the bees! hehe

  • Some really good footage, I love to see people successfully inspecting their hive for the first time. I particular liked the the bee dance and spotting the queen. I'll be checking out your other videos too.

  • ok,,thanx ,,let me ask you question,,concerning the feeding of a bee i try water+sugar+vitamin c efurvessent the bees are so eagerly took the syrup but after that some of the bees abdomen are inflated and get larger and die,,can you tell me why that?is it because the sugar concentration or because of vitamin c?and can you tell me what kind of feeding you use for your bees?

  • i thought the smoker was to help them feed?

  • Your videos are awesome man you may have inspired me to take this up as a hobby

  • whats that silver thing

  • @lilspark3000

Do you mean the smoker? If so it helps mask the scent of the bees alerting the other bees so they stay calm

  • @GeorgiaWineMaker oh I see, that's good.

  • @GeorgiaWineMaker Doesn't it also confuse the bees?

  • @lilspark3000

if bees on magazin ( like that we call 2nd floor) it may be too heat i quess . better use bee wax then bees will work faster . ( in new youtube i dont know how post comment soo i am reply lol)

  • Nice vid. Try removing a frame or two from either end of hive before you begin so manipulate and inspect frames easier. And helps to eliminate the possibility of rolling your queen or crushing her or her workers which tends to tick off the rest of the colony. Thanks keep up the great work bro.

  • so did you go to a beekeepers association meeting to learn how to do this or are you self taught?

  • @SaintLiam78 I attended Beekeepers association, but had just started so I still didn't know what I was doing.

  • sounds like your place is teaming with birds...who likes honeybees.

  • where did you get yure bees from?

  • It depends on the depth, there are three standard depths. In the video here, it is one deep on the bottom and one medium on top. A deep will hold about 70 pounds and a medium will hold about 40 and a shallow will hold about 30. that's divided by ten if you want to know what one frame will hold.

  • There is comb drawn out on both sides, if thats what you are asking

  • Thank a lot pal, after convincing the family it's all safe from watching your first video with no protective gear we watch this one and your in full Armour.

    No bee's for me now.

Just kidding, great video's, we enjoy watching them.

  • Congratz...

you did great,,,AND you got the smoker to stay lit the whole time.

One thing I'd like to point out..not serious..but careful about hitting or tapping the hive..SHARP hits or vibrations can set them off.

nice vid, good luck thru your first season.

  • my teacher broght his bees into his classroom and the bees were pissed

  • ive always seen beekeepers spraying that sort of thing when they first open the box. what's that?

  • Just pine straw burning to create smoke. The bees engorge on their honey because they think there is a fire, so they try to salvage the honey. Being so full they get lazy and don't bother to attack as nuch. I guess that's how it works. Bottom line it calms the bees.

  • Is this a hobby?

  • Yes i'm doing it as a Hobby. Usually when people do it to produce honey to sell they will have lots of hives. I may get another hive next year. Our honey will be just for us and our family and friends.

  • Good Video! Is this your first hive? I also have my first hive.

You have a ton of Bees! How many lbs. did you start off with? Smart getting a 'marked' queen, it makes it so much easier!

If you don't mind I want to point out some things:

    1. Top inner cover goes over frames, not on top of empty super.

    2. Are you feeding these bees? That is what the empty super is for, if not there is no need for the empty.

You moved nice and slow...good job

  • Yes I was feeding them, you may have noticed the empty ziplock bag that I pulled out. It was a gallon ziplock full of sugar water.

Yes this is my first year.

I have the cover over the frames now, I realized I needed to do that to keep them from building comb over the frames.

  • tnx:)hope you enjoy your new found hobby.
