The thylacine actually died out from mainland australia through competion with the dingo when it was introduced around 3000 years ago from papa new guinean natives. They inhabited the island of tasmania, south of the mainland and thats where they were shot by the white farmers.

bastards...the thylacine was never an evil sheepkiller. Because of its striking appearance with the wolf, brittish sheep ranchers immediately labeled it one. It was commonly thought the thylacine was a poultry theif, too, because of the famous photo by Henry Burrell of a thylacine with a chicken it its mouth. What you don't know is that was a stuffed specimen posing for the camera. people basically created this big lie about the thylacine, thus leading it to extinction.
