  • Add a houge grip and its awesome. Ill take my sigma over glock all day.

  • I am new to fire arms and just purchased my first gun yesterday. I purchased the Sigma 9mm and put 50 rounds through it with pretty good accuracy for a beginner. Thanks for the educational video.

  • is that a W. C. Wolff reduced power striker spring you have previously installed? And I too have shot Glock .40 and a Sigma .40 side by side and I'd take a my SW40VE ANY DAY over the Glock22...

  • @JBPlato I can't remember which brand it was, but I ended up putting the old one back on due to light primer strikes. The trigger is just heavy, there's really not much to do about it. I just wish they fixed the gritty feeling. I've dry fired one of the new SD pistols and the trigger is smoother, but still heavy

  • thanks for vid. do you know how many pounds on trigger pull?

  • @9072aaa I don't remember, but it's stiff. I guessing at least 7 pounds

  • @Ricklawrence

I took it again yesterday to the range. Also, I had my S&W 38 Special Model 10, and my brother's S&W 40 M&P. We loved shooting the SW9VE right along the others. It's a good gun to own. I'm very happy with it.

  • Great review. I got the SW9VE as a Christmas gift from my father-in-law. The trigger pull is a bit strong but other than that, I love it. I've shot just about everything. This gun is worth having and the price is amazing.

  • @T7691E I got one for $99 when I bought and M&P AR-15. The trigger pull was beyond foolish. My wife had to use two fingers. I did some gun smithing on it, pull one spring off the trigger and replaced another. The pull is now around 2.5lbs. The wife can rapid fire and pepper targets at 150ft. Not for nothing, I feel very comfortable with this weapon now. Good Luck

  • The smith and wesson sigma series is just a more inexpensively made weapon than an m&p, glock, or springfield xd. It's not that it wont fuction correctly, but that it is not as durable or known for long term fuction, i.e. barrel burn mag springs wearing out quickly comparably to a browning high power or a berreta, but it costs half as much. A good plinker to get but not exactly something to depend my life on. My .$02

  • @Gun4Freedom What is it with people making false statements concerning this gun? You obviously don't know enough about this weapon. Nine out of ten times its because you have zero experience with it. Do a little research and you'll see that there are hundreds, if not thousand of people that have had this gun for years and its not only going strong but malfunctions less than a Glock in some cases. Well known for long term function. Just because you wouldn't know, doesn't mean its how it is.

  • @MindBeyondAverage Don't take it personally, I mean no insult to you or whatever firearm you choose to use. Any functioning gun is better than none at all, as we know. Take a sigma and run 15,000 rounds of +p thru it, I'd like to see the shape it is in compared to a springfield xd or glock with the same treatment. I would bet that the xd or glock is looking and shooting better. my $.02, as that is the test a glock or springfield design goes thru before they mass produce the gun.

  • @Gun4Freedom Didn't take it personally and I agree with you for the most part. I just think that your statement is over exaggerated. Mostly the "I wouldn't depend my life on", part. There are many many cases of Glocks malfunctioning. I think a better point to make would be that with this weapon, one must take more care of it as apposed to others and be more choosy on the ammo. Other than that its a good weapon. BTW, just purchased an M&P9c today. EXITED...

  • @MindBeyondAverage Congratulations :) Hope it gives you many years of good service, I am toying around with getting a CZ75b in the next year myself, when my next permit comes in. Also thinking of maybe a taurus .44 mag revolver, but the 9mm is sooo much cheaper to shoot, and taurus has a foggy reputation. I like the 5" barrel on the CZ and it has great reviews, supposed to be the browning high power of the eastern block, lol. I have a ruger sp101 .357 right now and am used to revolvers.

  • @MindBeyondAverage You just did the same thing you accused me of. The M&P line is directly influenced by Glock. Again, I'm not saying one is better than the other. Thought I'd clear that up before you made assumptions again. S&W was sued in their pursuit of Glock's success. & That is a fact not an opinion. So now I see why you are so butthurt. You are a new M&P owner & you think it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

  • @Friedstuffsable ARE YOUR SERIOUS! Hahaha. This guy feels so stupid that he feels the need to stalk me now! You read a couple of my previous comments and think you know shit. My conversation with this guy is completely different but your like a woman. You do or say something stupid and try to dismiss it by attempting to create a similar situation from someone els. Hahaha! I have a youtube wife now! Ok I'm gonna ignore you now like a hormonal woman. Seriously, she needs to be disarmed...

  • Smith n wesson makes amazing firearms, but the sigma series is garbage.

  • @mattthekingdong Garbage is a bit strong. I thought they were well built, but the trigger was gritty.

  • @mattthekingdong The only people who say they are garbage, are people that have never owned or shot one. If you have owned or shot one and still didn't like it, you would say its at least decent.

  • Just bought one! Love the way it feels from the weight to the trigger pull! Thanks for the vid! Bout to a review it on my channel myself!

  • Great video helped a lot.

  • Shot one yesterday, trigger pull is stiff as hell so it effects the accuracy.

  • Based on performance per dollar, it's hard to beat a Sigma. I've owned one, shot it a bunch, & never had a malfunction. Eats anything & believe it or not, the Sigma is accurate despite the heavy trigger pull. In fact, I shoot it slightly better than Glocks at the range, probably due to the Sigma's better ergonomics (for me, anyway).

In short, while I prefer Glocks, the Sigma is priced much lower without losing much performance.

  • thanks for the review. saw this at academy for $279 and this helps me make the decision to go ahead and get it.

  • How is the trigger pull after breaking it in with say a 100 rounds? I was looking at buying this one when it goes on sale.

  • The Sigma is not a crap gun, Smith & Wesson don't make crap guns. I like my SW9VE a lot.

  • The sigma definitely does NOT compare to a glock. M&P comes way closer. Sigmas are crap.

  • @piersonmochoa44 Sigma's are not "crap", but they suffer from a less than stellar trigger. My Sigma worked just fine and was very accurate. The only reason we don't still have it is due to it being my wife's gun, and she didn't like the stiff trigger. The comparison to the glock refers to its design and internals. Glock thought they were similar enough to sue Smith and Wesson, and a jury thought they were similar enough to award a judgement to Glock.

  • @piersonmochoa44 I Have both guns. They are quite comparable. Continue following the trend with ignorance.

  • What brand is that holster you have there on your desk?

  • @conlonnic I think it's an Uncle Mikes

  • I figured out how to adjust the rear site. wrapped it in a towel and tapped gently with a finishing hammer. not the fanciest way, but it works

  • I can't adjust the rear site on the rear of my sigma to save my life! can you help? btw, I think it's a great gun, but it requires practice...keep the shoulders very loose when firing...

  • @patcaboli I'm not sure they're adjustable..that would usually drive the price up. And I don't know if you can buy replacement adjustable sights

  • This is an excellent 9mm.

  • @floridafyme There are way better 9mm's out there, but the Sigma may be the best value when it comes to performance per dollar.

  • i tried it in a safariland holster for the glock17 but no match

  • @yoroot20 it's closer to a glock 19, but I don't know if that makes much of difference.

  • @martinitime1975 im sure it does lol i just got an uncle mikes for the glock17 and it was tight at first but i used glove oil that you use on ball gloves and then put my mag light in it and let sit for a day and now its perfect

  • I just bought a SW9VE used and i can not find a holster to fit any ideas?

  • @yoroot20 Try the holster wizard search at cheaperthandirt

  • @yoroot20 thank you.... I have a uncle mikes duty holster for the glock 19, you think that will work for now?

  • @yoroot20 You could also call your local gun store and ask them if they either have one you can test with, or if you can bring yours (unloaded of course). Most holster packaging is resealable, because they know you need to test drive it.

  • @martinitime1975 ok... i took it cabelas and they claimed the didnt carry any for it because its not a gun in high demand. They had blackhawk serpa holsters that might fit it but i wanna find something like safariland mid ride or something like that.

  • @yoroot20 I bought mine from Cabela's

  • I bought a SW9VE My opinion great gun!! Very stiff trigger. I did the trigger job that is on the tube. By pulling out the pig tale spring and replacing the outer spring with a weaker spring. Made my trigger a completely different trigger. Probably near 3 to 5 lbs. I did polish the burrs in the area. Kinda seems like that's wear the grittyness is coming from.I do need to open it back up and touch it up. My opinion great upgrade. Do at your own risk. I watched several videos before doing it.

  • Comment removed

  • @yoroot20 Blackhawk serpa holster, 45 bucks

  • I dont know why everyone complains about the trigger. i bought a $4 piece for it and it lowered it to a 5.5lb trigger pull

  • @BlackSabbath1204 I took out the little center spring, I even put in a lighter striker spring. It helped a little, but it was still heavy and gritty. If it had been smoother, I don't think I would have complained so much

  • just picked up this gun today . thanks for the informative video dude !

  • this gun shows how much glock rips ppl for a polymer frame handgun. i dont even wanna hear otherwise. rather get two sigmas over one glock. cant justify glock prices. plus its not american

  • @tylormurphy Yes and no. Is the Sigma a serviceable weapon, YES. Is it Glock quality, NO. As far as cost goes, the Glock has the tenifer coated slide (more $) and better internals (read much better trigger). I think Glocks are overpriced, but not that much. If you compare it to the SW MandP models, Glocks are the same price or cheaper. The American thing never bothered me, I drive anything BUT American union cars because the quality sucks. Love my USA made Rugers, though

  • For people that are worried about the trigger I hear any good gun smith can do a trigger job and take it from around 8 pounds to around 4

  • very informative...thank you very much

  • is this a reliable gun and worth the money hearin mixed shit about them jw

  • @marleystoner It's reliable and inexpensive, the knock is on the trigger. For some people no amount of money saved can make up for that heavy trigger

  • I'd rather see this in someone's hands than the alternatives such as Hi Points. People who like Hi Points all they want but they cannot beat the reputation or name of a known, established manufacturer like S&W.

  • I hated the trigger but after replacing the striker spring and removing the pigtail spring from my 40VE I love it. I did the dead weight test and the trigger is now somewhere between 6 and 7 1/2 lbs. It was 12lbs before. I love the gun now. I see no reason to mess with the double spring behind the sear block. That may make the trigger too light and it may also prevent the trigger from properly resetting.

That may make the trigger too light and it may also prevent the trigger from properly resetting.

  • probably cause it doesnt have a sight.thats the main reason i could think why its stiff

  • @TheBassmaster96 Not sure what you mean, explain

  • @TheBassmaster96 that message i said was supposed to be deleted. i had meant to say that the reason why is probably because there is no safety only reason i could think of the trigger being hard.other than just cheap.i wouldnt want the gun to go off in a holster by the trigger being accidentally swiped or something.

  • @TheBassmaster96 Ok that makes more sense, and I think you're right about that one. That's why I like the kydex style molded holsters, they keep the trigger from getting touched at all.

  • @TheBassmaster96 I'm pretty sure there is a safety on the gun, the plug that he talks about on the bottom near where the magazine goes pulls out and engages the safety. pushed up as he has it through the video is in fire mode.

  • @timmy2shoes123 Just like a Glock, the only safety you can see is the double jointed trigger. All other safeties are internal. That plug in the grip is superfluous.

  • @timmy2shoes123 actually i own the gun now,and there is no safety.....................So ummm yeah.its a pretty good gun overall though for the price

  • Everytime someone talks about the newer VE Sigmas they talk about how it looks like a Glock. It looks no more like a Glock than any of the other polymer frame handguns out there. Ever see a Kahr? The older Sigmas look like Glocks, yes, but the newer ones don't. Aesthetically, the VE would have never been sued. The whole "looks like a Glock" thing pertains to the older models. And that was back when polymer frame handguns were a thing of the future.

  • Glock company is a big ole cock!! They only sued cus they had competition and they would not be able to sell any other type of gun. Thats why all their guns are the exact same except for caliber, other firearm companys have different types of firearms like revolvers and semi auto with and without hammer, etc... Sure if every company spent all their money and time on one style gun I bet they would be able to perfect it and have even better firearms then glock.

  • good review man just one thing tho. The original sigma that came out in the 90's glock copied they actually went to court over it

  • @polakboy06 Yeah, Glock nailed them pretty good. I don't know the exact details on the settlement, but Glock won that one.

  • @martinitime1975 haha yea they settled for an undisclosed amount lol

  • Outstanding review, Keep it up!!

  • Thank You for this review. It helps a lot. I have been looking at this gun and was a bit leary of it because of the trigger issues. I am going to the local shop to ask to dry fire it to see if this would be an issue with me.

  • @bhcdj1 Try comparing it with one of the new Smith &Wesson SD series pistols and see if you notice a difference.

  • @martintime1975 Igot my SW9VE yesterday and went to the range here in town i did not have any problems with the trigger at all. It felt tight but good out of the box was very accurate not that im a great shot but hit the target paper 10 out of 15 rounds with about every clip. Thanks again for the awesome review.

  • This is a awesome review. I have been looking to buy my first gun and i was cosidering the Glock 17, the Ruger and the 9mm Sigma. I have handled and dry fired all three i was leaning towards the Sigma and I now know which gun I am going to be purchasing a SW9VE. Again thank you for the awesome review.

  • @MrFakechow You might want to look at the new S&W SD series. I dry fired one at the shop the other day, and it has a much smoother trigger. It's a little bit more expensive, but not nearly as bad as the M&P

  • Never had a SINGLE issue. over 10,000 rds. made a quick mod to the spring in the trigger mechanism and lightened the trigger pull a little. but is a great gun and deadly accurate!!man, ur a smart guy...leave fabio on his own...Hes a dumbass

  • Never had a SINGLE issue. over 10,000 rds. made a quick mod to the spring in the trigger mechanism and lightened the trigger pull a little. but is a great gun and deadly accurate!!

  • awesome review (:

  • what website did u buy that gun from?

  • @sergiojohns The Sigma was purchased at Academy Sports in store. I have purchased 2 guns online, both Kel-tec's. The SU-16c from TGScom and the PF9 I can't remember.

  • ive heard alot of complaints of the gun jamming often, is this a true occurence. alot of the reviews ive read about this gun is the jamming issue

  • @azn1980 I had issues with steel cased ammo, but most of my guns do. When I was using brass or aluminum ammo, it was very reliable.

  • This is the best review I have seen on Youtube, thanks. Shot my son's for the first time today and found two sources for the "gritty trigger" of this S&W. Problem is with the hammer release in the back of the grip which is too stiff and has concentric springs that grind on their coils as they are compressed (feels gritty). My front trigger was smooth but firm. I used the Dremel cut-off wheel to shorten the outer spring about 3/16" and dropped the trigger pull to a smooth 4-5 pounds from 10.

  • this is a quality handgun, don't let anyone tell you different. The only negative is the trigger pull, which can be fixed easily. Pull out the trigger assy and pull out the little pigtail spring...won't affect reliabillity at all, but lessens pull by one third. Then, polish where metal touches metal in the trigger assy..Dremmel, with the felt tip and some metal polish...the grittyness is gone, and now you have a 6 lb trigger instead of 10. Don't do anything with the double spring in there!

  • You can take the gritty ness out with just a little time on the trigger. Sand and polish u tube videos. I got my trigger pull smooth and much lighter without replace any parts

  • what u said about the 16 rnd is so tru, every time i force the last round into the mag,is when i get a stove pipe. i always put 15 in there too.

  • you do excellent reviews!

  • @Krock45bullet Thanks for watching

  • Just picked one up today can't wait to give it a go tomorrow. Thanks for sharing and posting.

  • i have run around 2000 rounds thru mine w/ any malfunctions. very accurate. carry mine more than any other gun. I polished the trigger pieces to take out the gritty feel

  • Good gun. @ a valued price

  • Taking mine to the range again to run a hundred rounds through it. Put about 500 and not one failure. I got my gun for 325 and just got my 50$ rebate check. I also complainted to S&W about a problem with how slow the checks are and they threw in another mag. So I got three mags the gun all new for 275. I was going to sell it, but it fits my hand so well I am hesitating to sell it.

  • @wolflager1 It's one of the best values in the pistol world.

  • Does anyone know if any law enforcement agency in the US use Sigma (either in 9mm or .40)?

It looks like its a good gun from a good company and I wonder why most angencies use Glock especialy if the Sigma is half the price.

  • @JoeDurobot in terms of overall quality it's not as nice as the Glock, but the main thing is that really heavy trigger pull. Glocks have much lighter pulls.

We have armed the Iraqi and Afghan forces with Sigma pistols on a large scale (they got the black slide versions).

  • @martinitime1975 So you would say that the sigma is not law enforcement quality?

I know that S&W have the M&P serie made for the police, that maybe because the sigma is not built though enough.

  • @JoeDurobot I think it's tough, jsut not built to the standards of the Glock or M&P. The M&P has higher quality parts, better grip and a much better trigger. But, S&W now has a line of pistols between the Sigma and M&P, the SD series. They look pretty sweet

  • @martinitime1975 I just checked the SD line, they do look sweet indeed!

They changed all the things I dont like about the sigma like the rail and the trigger guard.I dont know how is the trigger though.

  • @JoeDurobot Yeah, I haven't held one yet so I don't know if they fixed the trigger pull in the SD.

  • It does take a while to break in the mags. This was my first gun. The trigger does suck but it is good for the money. I don't mind the heavy trigger pull, but it is the staging and unsmooth trigger. It has a lot of creep in it and a harsh let off. I find that mastering this gun makes shooting any other gun a piece of cake. Good home defense gun. Mine took both the steal and aluminum ammo with no prob.

  • @martinitime1975 Hey have one of these and took it to the range brand new and was experiencing some FTF and FTE and was just wondering if you might have some advice on that.

  • @crest2598 Did you clean and lubricate it before taking out to shoot the first time? I don't want to assume anything, but you have to get all that cosmolene packing grease off it before firing. Also, I found with mine that it hated steel cased Monarch ammo, and Winchester white box wasn't so good either (try some standard brass cased or even aluminum case if your range allows it). It may just be in break in mode. If you're still having trouble, give S&W a call.

  • @crest2598 wow my sigma 40 has been great thru 1600 rounds thus far.

  • @GunNut12680 I took it home and cleaned the fuck out of it, put it back together and cleaned it some more then lubricated. Took it to the range last week, 300 rounds, no jams. Like martin told me I probably just needed to clean it, and that's what it was.

  • @crest2598 glad to hear its doin well.i guess some work straight out the box and some dont.i didnt even clean mine just to see if it would function out the box.all in all the sigma is a reliable gun.i hate to see when people trash talk em.

  • @GunNut12680 Funny thing is, I have 2000 rounds thru a Hi point C9. Cleaned it once, and it never jammed.

  • @crest2598 lol wow and what do u know mine has jammed twice wen i didnt clean mine out the box lol.weird huh lol

  • lol, the ammo your talking about, monarch or how you spell it. Had my ruger p95 jamming alot, I thought it was my gun at first. For some reason the ammo fires very dirty, but as long as you keep the gun clean for the most part no problem. I had a sw9ve as well, great pistol for the price.

  • ...is it that bad.???...Im goin to pick this gun up on monday...just need a little insight . Since I Had no practice with shooting guns at all...should this be my first gun or should i consider buying something else regarding that I keep hearing the trigger pull is that bad.

  • @kwenscott I think the gun is an amazing value. Just practice dry firing it at the store. I had no problem shooting very accurately, but my wife didn't have the hand strength to overcome the trigger pull enough to be accurate with it. I thought it was a good reliable pistol.

  • i don't know if you know this but the trigger pull was meant to be 10 pounds because when the glock and its 5.5lb tp came out police were killing people because they were used to their revolver's tp. just thought id say that...good vid.

  • @mattH7600 Never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense!

  • had mine for a year pulled out one of the springs gun is amazing. use mine for run and guns all the time. only problom ive had is cheap reloads

  • I got one of these at Cabela's in April for $289. It's a great gun. No problems so far. Yeah, I stick with 15 in the mag too.

  • I used to have a Sigma in .40S&W. Good, reliable weapon. Trigger pull was waaay too heavy though. Traded it in on an M&P40c, which is the best handgun of any brand I've ever shot. My wife has a Sigma 9mm. She agrees about the trigger, but won't part with it!

  • I love this gun, the grip just seems to perfectly fit my hand. Not too big or small.

  • at10 sec mhatdo he mean by that word malind or what ever he said

  • @theoster maligned means "put down" or "complained about"

  • I've had my Sigma 9mm for 2 years now and absolutly love it. I never had an issue with it at all. Iam not really sure what everyones complaint about the trigger is. My friends and I shoot this gun very acuratly. It is so easy to Field Strip and clean. Also its made in the U.S.A. The warranty is lifetime aswell. Keep Americans working by buying American made firearms.

  • Its easy to get the 16th round in the mag after about 200-300 rounds.

  • @Peckerwood702 I must have weak thumbs, because my wife and I have put 1000+ rounds through it, and it's still a bitch. Damn these musician hands!

  • I love the quote under the video. "don't be a d-bag" LOL classic!!!

  • I just sent mine in to S&W to repair broken ejector/extractor . the day before i ordered som golden saber 124gr +p HP's too, so i guess Ill be chucking them by hand if someone breaks in. I am glad it did break while at the range and not when i had to use it.

  • @702LTR450 I just bought one, but I don't feel that it's something I can rely on in a crisis just yet. I will stick with ma glock for now until I get a better feel for this one

  • Great video. I was doing a little research.. I am picking up this gun this week. Thanks

  • have you tried to take the extra springs out of the trigger? i have a video i downloaded off of here about 6 months ago. it worked great for me and i have had no problems at all. anyway great review....

  • @hammerhead0709 Yes, forgot to mention that in the vid. I watched the video of former user Stubby(something) and it did help a bit, but not a lot.

  • @martinitime1975 I've heard you can send these back to smith with a complaint about the trigger and they will smooth it out under warrenty, never did it myself but I plan to LOL I have one in 40sw with the OD green lower, shoots well but your right the trigger is... well it goes bang, and the magazines are a pain. What I did with mine is use a speed loader off of my SR9 load them up all the way and just let them sit for awhile, seems to have helped.

  • Does Monarch ammo have corrosive primers?

  • @4Ugrunt Not really sure. I don't remember having these problems a year ago, but everything within the last 6 months has had issues.

  • Great stuff, Martini!

  • @gruelin1 Glad you liked it. BTW, I got enough hits on the original Hi-point vid to get Google Ads placed on it, so check it out.
