use the Stanislavski's system!!!!! gosh you are toooo angry!!!!! slow down!!! wrong emotion more of a "im not as good as you" rather than your "im better and i know it"!!!! terrible performance sorry but it is true
In all honesty, it's about perception and personal opinion. In this case the actress decided to portray her as sarcastic and snide, and in fact was modeling her off of a snake. If you keep an open mind to different interpretations then that portrayal works very well with the rest of the play.
@tvdd1973 Thanks for the advice, but I am playing her like that but only some of the time, I;m doing it very complexly and with multiple personalities. I will hopefully post some of my performance on here when it is over and I'll send it to you, I would like to hear your thoughts.
I'm playing Helena in my school play @ the moment, and I have to say she sounds like a bitch... like holy crap she has to be whiny. She's mean like idk. and wth is with the clothes? :( horrible
@orhugs Please don't play Helena as 'whiny'. If she's played as whiny, angry or bitter the audience will be bored of her by the end of Act 1. Any Shakespearean soliloquy is a chance for the actor to SHARE with the audience. So SHARE her confusion, her hurt pride etc if you want to but also share the fact that she is an intelligent, bright and self-aware young woman. It's almost always a better idea to choose an objective for a scene, as well, rather than play an emotion or characteristic.
you poeple need to quit talking shit! idk if you people noticed but this was 2 years ago as well as she was a senior in high school then.. and she's a freakin great helina.. just this scene wasnt the greatest.
I agree with the other comments. It's too angry and sarcastic. Helena is more... whiny. She's jealous of Hermia, but Hermia has been her best friend since they were CHILDREN! She's not going to talk snidely about her best friend... Sure, she's jealous, but she would never do anything to hurt Hermia. She'll just whine about how much prettier she is. ALL OF THE TIME. :D So less angry/sarcastic and more... whiney, would probably be better. You don't gotta listen, but that's my advice. :)
Ohmygod. Wrong!

Helena is not a bitch. Your tone does not compliment the meaning at all.
