  • Gretsch > Pearl < ddrum < Yamaha.

  • Meh, it's a novelty kit. Cool to hear but it's no maple. Maple rules.

  • I don't want to buy the drumset. I want those skills!

  • do they make an ahs kit where it is 2 floor toms instead of an extra rack tom :/ thats what I want :(

  • Dude.... Love thats set... Love how u play the drums bro

  • what is a good bass head with a kick port to put on this kit? i'm going to be getting this kit and i'm going to put one in it.

  • how much does this kit cost?

  • I have this set and i very much agree with the bass. it sounds the best. espeshally with a double bass pedal. Good set.

  • they're a little too dark.....and i do mean dark. that drummer, jason, is really good.

  • they're a little too dark.....and i do mean dark.

  • Thank you!

    -Gretsch

  • what k ride is that? it sounds awesome :)

  • wow, i much prefer this to the maple...it doesnt look as nice tho! :P

  • I love this kit so much! How much is it?

  • I have a doubt, I'm going to record and album, and I can choose the Catalina Ash and a Gretsch Catalina Club Mini Mod, which have the better quality sound? I play funk, soul and latin Rhythms

  • I have a doubt, I'm going to record and album, and I can choose the Catalina Ash and a Gretsch Catalina Club Mini Mod, which have the better quality sound? I play funk, soul and latin Rhythms

  • @robocopjimenez I recorded with catalina ash, that's a really good option!

  • how much it costs?

  • im looking to buy a new kit and im seriously considering buying gretsch but i play a lot of metal stuff and i dont know of any metal drummers that use gretsch so im hesitant towoards buying them for my playing style what do you suggest???

  • Everything they told you here is true!! I have one of these babies and its built like a tank and sounds awesome. Biggest bang for your buck! This is my 10th drumkit and it will be my last!!! Pearl, Ludwig, Tama, i had them all and the only one who had a great sound like this was my 1971(i think) Rogers. Doesn't have a lot of projection (that's what mics are for) but the rich tone of these drums is amazing. Jazz, pop, metal you can play whatever you want!

  • I'm trying to decide what set to go with. Gretsch Catalina Ash, or Ludwig Element Lacquer 4-Piece Emo Shell Pack. Our music style is like Fall Out Boy or 30 Seconds To Mars. What would sound the best?

  • at 1:34 they started filming it like it was a porno! HA! but nice i have this set

but i have the EC2's on them! sounds tons better!

  • quick question. Would Aquarian Superkick 2 drum head go nicely this on the bass drum? Because i'm trying to find a good bass drum head. Sorry i didn't really know who else to ask but it would be great to know. thanks

  • question: Would a Aquarian Super Kick 2 head give the bass drum a more thud or a more clicky thud. Just asking.

i didn't know who else to ask

  • personally this ash kit sounds way worse than maple. Lack so much resonance&power and volume

  • what do u think is best birch maple or ash drum set?

  • it sounds weak

  • Does GRETSCH sell separate accessories as bass drums and toms?

  • Q: What do you think about the Gretsch Catalina Roack Bonham configuration (26in. bass with rack tom and 16 and 18 floor toms and 6.5 x14 snare. How is the sound compared to the Ash and the Maple kits you reviewed?

  • Great review and thanks for playing the toms. reviews will focus on the snare and bass, but to me the toms make the set.

  • I had a couple of questions about this, if you had the time. I know this kit usually goes for around 650 American, or as low as just 600. Do you know how much it would cost with an additional bass drum? Also, do you know if the bass drums can come in a virgin config?

  • main question bugging me....Gretsch catalina Ash or Maple? they both look gr8 but i cant decide

  • What kind of tuning key can I use with this kit?

  • is that bass muffled or does it just sound like that outta the box?

  • are the cymbalstands etc. included?

  • It sounds bad in this video. But Im very happy with my Catalina Ash kit. Very smooth sounding in a 7-piece set up =]

  • if i got this kit would it sound good with zildjian zxt cymbals?

  • what kind of ride was that?

  • 1 question...if I order the kit...can I pay with Cash on delivery???

  • @Drumeerr Unfortunately, we do not offer that service. Must be paid in full before it can ship.

    Thanks!

  • That kit sounds great.

  • This are the the drums i wish to have ... i am i gonna buy them as soon as i have money to buy them!

  • this is the drum set i want to buy my self ... as soon as i can .. i love it !

  • He I also wanted to know if Catalina Ash is verstile for metal and stuff like Avenged Sevenfold and Tool stuff. In terms of metal rolls and making the toms kinda bleed together well.

  • what ..since when a drum kit has 4 toms? just asking....

  • @Jacobscritch Some have more than 8-9, haha. Look at Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, etc.

  • Comment removed

  • @Jacobscritch

It's a very standard setup to have 4 or even more toms. I prefer 3 up 2 down. Check out kits from Neil PEart or Mike Portnoy.

  • @Mjbabycakes7072 drums are like women,,it is what sounds and feels good to you, what you hear after you have finished tuning your kit,may sound good to you, there for what ever cymbal set you put with it all really depends on what sounds good to you after you have tried a few out,I use Sabian, but also like the clean crispy sound of Zildjian

  • Hello, I've got a question, What surface it takes at the ground? ( I'm french :S )

donc quelle surface au sol occupe la batterie montée? En Mètres ou cm carrés.

    merci

  • I'm wondering about the kit I should buy. I started drums 10 years ago but now I want to change my kit for a Catalina. I don't know if I should take the Maple or the Ash...

I prefer the Ash but some people told me Maple was better for rock.

Can you give me some help ?

  • Why am I such an idiot I passed up this for a Mapex QR, am I totally crazy?

  • i was torn between the maple and ash as well. i could afford them both so it came down to pure look and sound. i like the ash's red color better than the maple. the ash has just a better sound than the maple. too much attack with the maple in my opinion. i suggest anyone on a budget try this kit in ash. i doubt you find a bettter deal.

  • i have this kit. i've had it for two years. it's the deep red color. i used to work at guitar center and for the price and quality i think it's the best kit you can get. i've never had anything but complements on the look and sound of it. i tried almost every head and i find that either the remo ambassadors, which provide more brightness and sustain, or the coated emperors, which i use for the sound i like. this is the best kit by way of quality and quantity that you can get for the price.

  • I got this kit it's sounds ok

  • very helpful thanks

  • i dont know weather to get the maple or the ash kit?

  • @theresentfuldead

I've got the ash fusion kit, and it's GREAT. Even with stock heads, these things sounded superb. After I slapped on new heads, they blew any kit I'd heard in a LONG time out of the water. I love them.

  • @bomberbadj wicked thanks man

  • @theresentfuldead maple all the way buddy

  • whoever watching this, get a catalina maple-not ash. Ash is a strong wood, but it is opened grained. and maple is strong but it is full grained!

  • It depends. It you like more on your lows(bass) then go with the maples. I like a strong bass so I went with the maples.

  • I got this kit.

    It sounds awesome!

  • Wow. He's playing with stock heads on and no muffling. That sounds amazing.

  • Kit sounds great! Jason is an excellent drummer! Can definitely play a groove.

  • i like the maple and the ash they both sound awesome in there own way

  • i'm lookin for a new kit. and i'm stuck between this one and a pdp m5. any suggestions? i play rock, and rock country jason aldean carrie underwood what not. and alternative rock, and heavy rock

  • i'd say you can't go wrong with either one, i personally own a gretsch catalina and am a big fan of gretsch drums so that would be my suggestion for you.

  • thats my kit and i love it!

  • I will buy this drum for Power/Progressive Metal

  • not a great kit for metal because the drums are on the small side and ash just doesn't have the volume for it. but for anything esle this kit is outstanding. bass drum has a great sound and the drums have really nice tone. snare is ok. i think it's the best kit for the price. i've tried the maple and birch catalina kits too, but the ash is without a doubt the best one.

  • is this good for heavy metal

  • I Just ordered this kit and cant wait for it to come so i can drum like this XD

  • question, this kit, or the gretsch catalina club mod?

    thanks

  • catalina, if ur into less heavy stuff an dont rely on tom runs an a heavy hitting bass

  • no.

  • Does this kit come with the cymbals?

  • Nope.

  • hi ther can anyone tell me if this is a good kit for heavy metal?

    thanks

  • THIS SET IS AMAZING!!!!

  • First if all, congrats to everyone, this is the first time I don't see anyone insulting other people!!!

I was thinking about buying this set but I don't know much about ASH.. would you recommend it?

  • A Men!! On that!! Great sounding kit great drummer win win!!

  • Maple sounds better.

  • @monocubas hehe. nice. this kit is great for jazz or big band. I would suggest the maple one if you want hard rock or metal. for more country/ pop i suggest the birch.

  • @monocubas FUCK YOU! Nah, just kidding. It's nice to see a peaceful comment section for once. I bet there's no one here under the age of 16.

  • @DrummingWithDale Im 15 years old but i dont want to insult anyone :) Nice drumming and set btw

  • @FaustoUlrich Ha good man. I wish more people had the same mentality as you do...including myself.

  • what kind of cymbals are being used in this video?

  • I'm using 14" Meinl Byzance hi hats, 17" Meinl Byzance Med Thin Crash and a Zildjian 21" K Special Dry Light Ride in this video. Thanks

  • Hello, i have a question,

a this drum kit, with the hardware, without cymbals,

how much weight ? have, in the box, ? new.

  • The kit ships in 2 boxes. Each box is approx 45 lbs.

    Thanks!

  • Hi, quick question, I play sort of heavy rock for my band, "Like System of a Down style", and I was wondering if these drums would go good with my band

  • Definitely! Ash is a very universal sounding wood. It is very pronounced, and the attack is is loud.

    thanks!

    Todd - The Music Farm

    330-682-5595

  • @TheMusicFarm this or the gretsch catalina rock??? which has better hardware and durability

  • They would go great actually.

  • anybody know how this set handles double bass pedal?

  • I think the real question is can YOU handle the double bass pedals?

  • what tomskins? pls answer . ty :)

  • The heads are the clear one ply factory heads that came packaged with the kit. Thanks jason

  • sounds similar to the my Catalina Birchm but it just misses out on the high quality that the birch has unfortunately...

  • HAHA! I noticed the little 2:07 beat ;-) Nice! hahaha

  • Thank You!

  • now i just bought this kit but im looking for a combo of heads to really let these drums sing.

any ideas on plys, coats, heads in general? what this drum has and what some heads offer that would compliment the drums?

  • If you really want the drums to sing I would use clear 1 ply heads top and bottom. If you are looking to dry up the overtones use a 1 ply coated on top instead. Remo or Aquarian brand seem to be the best.

  • The ash sounds really great for any kind of music... The factory heads aren't all that great, but if they are tuned right they sound wonderful... My heads were getting somewhat old on mine so I upgraded to the Evans EC2's and they sound even better...

All together the Shells are wonderful, which is about the only thing you serious drummers need to know, and the factory gretsch heads are mediocre but the shells make up for them!

  • what is the price on this kit?

  • $649 with free shipping. If you would like to know more... call, or send a private message.

    thanks!

  • hey, are the bass drum hoops wooden or metal?

  • Wood hoops.

    thanks!

  • I am considering this kit for sure!

  • hey,

I looked a lot on the gretsch catalina ash and maple and i dont know what to pick. i look for more metal and heavy metal, rock styles but i want it to fit to other things as well. which one will be better for heavy metal?

    Thanks Tom.

  • If i HAD to pick between ash or maple for metal, I would go with the ash. It cuts a little more on the high end, which I believe would work better for a metal application. It won't limit you to that style of music though. You could play anything! Let me know if you would like to order from us.

    thanks!

  • what makes me consider even more is the extra tom, i think the extra floor makes it mach more attractive than the 8 tom

  • you will use a thousand times more the 8 than the floor.

  • i find more uses for a floor :P

  • I can't decide between the maple or the ash. I play hardcore and deathcore music. I currently have a PDP 805. I just don't know if I would really want the 8 inch.

  • The ash drums are definitely more "alive" than the maple. The ash wood sounds a lot like birch. Don't underestimate the 8" tom. Very melodic, and you can simply take it off if you don't like it.. Feel free to call with any questions..

    thanks!

  • im gettin a new drum kit and its a shell pack. now does that come with heads on it. and also i know thats there is no cymbals and hardware but the toms are mounted on a special built stand (not in the bass drum) does that come with it?

  • This shell pack does come with heads. The mount for the toms is also included. Feel free to call an order over the phone.

    thanks!

  • i cant decide between the catalina maples or ashes!!! someone please!!!!!!!!!!! help

  • What kind of tone are you looking for? The kit's are soo different..

    let me know,

    Todd - The Music Farm

    330-682-5595

  • im looking for like a nice deep tone in the toms and a deep sounding snare. thanks

    mark

  • Well, Ash has the tendency to be slightly more bright than maple. Maple is an extremely well rounded wood for drums. Very warm and consistent. Maple may be your winner. We have both available... let me know which way you're leaning. Feel free to call me direct with any questions..

    thanks!

  • thanks i was kinda thinking about the maple, how much would the shells be?

  • We actually have the Maple kit (tobacco fade) that we used in the video for sale for $719 with a free Grestch drum rug. The kit was only played for about a half hour, and the heads only have light wear... Let me know if interested..

    thanks!
