When you think about it, it's really sad, it's almost like, in the moment Diana was about to get shot, she saw her future life before her eyes. And moments before she died, she replied with a smile that she is not a survivor, because she was happy Maureen was going to have a better life than hers.

The life of the adult Diana (played by Uma Thurman) actually never happened - it was an imagination of how the life of the young Diana could had been if she would had survived.

It helps watching the "Making of" which should be included on the DVD. Maybe you can find it on YouTube or elswhere. The actors as well as the director, Vadim Perelman, are talking about a lot of things including the idea of the movie and the twist at the end.

At the end, Diana died. She sees her life passing by, what it could have been when she survived. Her daughter Emma is running away all the time, says things like 'you hate me', because she had an abortion when she was young. it's the fear of diana that she will get 'punished' in her later life.

The old diana actually never happened.

You need to think a tremendous amount during and after this movie. It is amazing. Directed so beautifully, so delicate. Each time I watch it I find more symbolism, more clues. I recommend this movie to all of those who are open minded and logical thinkers :)

the movie is about her seing how her own life would've turned out, if she had said to the boy, that he should shoot her best friend, instead of her. in that glimpse of a second, before she answers him, she sees her life before her. it's tricky, I didn't understand it either at first, but when you realize the meaning, its a pretty damn awesome movie!
