  • Toyota and the Japanese technology decades ahead of other competitive cégek.Ez I think the video is false. The Prius is a modern vehicle that can not be underestimated!!!! The VW ..... technically extremely lag behind the Toyota!

  • Prius is for gay people...

  • The thing that frustrates me about my prius is the traction control kicks in way too early making it dangerous in wet conditions, The car kills almost all the power and leaves you dead in the road for what feels like an eternity. The other thing I dont like is the lack of telescoping steering wheel and the seats are terrible. I could tolerate these things if this wasn't my wifes car that had my 3 month old strapped into it. Maybe they fixed this on the 3rd gens?

  • This fake video

  • @GZOLIKA75 No this is entirely real.

  • the difference is actually making the TDI look sad. those graphs are biased as anything, and the prius is never known to be a sporty car... and it comes close here. Tdi should have performed far better. I don't like hybrids, but this is way to biased.

  • The funny thing is that I own both a 2010 Jetta wolfsburg and also the 2010 Prius these two car are not on the same playing field at all. and to compare a VW to a prius is like comparing a apple to an orange.

  • About zero to sixty times: Zero to sixty times as measured by the reviewers is done by revving the engine and the popping the clutch (or the automatic equivalent) accompanied by squealing tires and burning rubber. The Prius won't let the driver do silly juvenile stuff like that so the zero to sixty times show up a few seconds longer. In practice the Prius has the similar acceleration as a vehicle that shows up as being two or three seconds faster in the reviews.

  • The Prius is the first car in a long time that actually had some thought put into it rather than just putting new sheet metal on the same old tired internals and creating clever ads to make the gullible think they're getting something new. In my opinion, the Prius is the thinking person's car. However, it's just a car and not a panacea. There is still maintenance to be done (not a lot), gas to buy (about half, but not zero), insurance to pay (no real difference here)

  • They talk about a supposed lack of power. The fact is that because there isn't a jerky transmission smooth acceleration is mistaken for lack of power. Prius owners are often surprised to see their Prius going 80 or 90 when they thought it was going 60. In addition, the engine speed isn't tightly coupled to vehicle speed so some people when the hear the engine start to rev back off resulting in lower acceleration (The computers don't let the engine over-rev).

  • Prius performed way better than expected! I think I'll get the Prius.

  • VW THE WORLD S BEST CAR

  • Nice graphs, 1 second difference is equal to half a page difference. 2mph difference is also equal to half a page difference. I'd stick to the Prius, at least I wouldn't visit my dealer as often.

  • :O THE PRIUS IS 1 SECOND SLOWER AND HAS A 1,5MPH SLOWER SLALOM. I WON'T BUY A PRIUS BECAUSE OF THAT(mode ironic on). a stupid advice enphatised to stupid people

  • @ggtontoyono Haha, and they make the line graph look like the Prius took so much longer by making the Jetta's really short, and making the Prius' really long.

  • @ggtontoyono The best part too, they make the Prius look all boring by having death metal background music playing behind the Jetta to make it seem all badass, but when the camera pans over to the Prius, the music stops and it gets all quiet.

  • a 2003 car (prius) vs a 2008 car (jetta)

  • that was one stupid test

  • how racing against a prius defends a slow car ?

  • @gab13005 in case you missed it they are both in the same market, both fuel/gas misers and obviously the TDI would be more fun to drive I suppose.

  • @MrFlyinhigh Yes, but it depends on what kind of fun you're looking for. Many people think that because the Prius isn't the fastest car that it's boring, but the Prius offers a different kind of fun. Some like to shift gears, but it's fun to drive my Prius and watch it shift from gasoline power to electric power depending on driving conditions. "stealth" mode (battery drive with the engine at 0 RPM) is actually pretty fun because you see how far you can go before the engine comes on

  • @AUSTiNKiNSER its also gonna be fun when you have to get new batteries in ten years...

  • @toker1124 The battery is designed to last the life of the car. One of my videos where I'm doing a top speed run (the one where I'm listening to "Say Ahh" that's my friend Brant's Prius, his parents bought it new in 2002, it's the first generation model and it has 225,000 miles. Never had any major repairs besides spark plugs at 175,000 miles and oil changes and new tires. Bob Callen has a 2004 Prius, with his 317 mile commute daily, he has put over 500,000 miles on his, no new batt.

  • @toker1124 An important aspect of battery life is that the HSD system wont let the charge-level to reach low, since deep-discharging is a behavior that shortens battery life. The ones in Prius have the ability to recharge immediately. The engine simply starts up when the charge-level drops to "Pink" (that's 2 bars) on the display, which is 40% capacity. The process offers significant protection, meaning that life will be much longer than other products that use rechargeable batteries.

  • @toker1124 Also, note that after the rated 10,000 recharging-cycles have been used, the overall capacity of the battery would have only been reduced to 80%. So even at the point, the hybrid will continue to operate as it always had. The only difference will be a loss in efficiency. The engine will simply have to run more. That's it.

Lastly, it is very important to remember that the hybrid system prevents the battery-pack from being used as much possible. (In non-stealth driving)

  • @toker1124 Much of the needed electricity (for non-stealth driving) comes directly from the engine instead, generated for immediate use. Avoiding use of the battery-pack like that obviously helps to extend the life of it.

  • @toker1124 10 years? there are priuses with 300k miles on the original battery and still going strong.

  • Gringo de mierdaaa

  • ESP switched off

  • Everyone continues to be duped about fuel economy, environmental preservation, national security (the cost to the US for protecting foreign assets ie. oil producers) how the prius is worse than an hummer ect... You watch this sales pitch video from bob king vw and you take it like gospel.

  • The Toyota is a electric car. Not a diesel german car. German cars have better steering and grip. And the burn out test, I think the Prius didn't have the brakes on.

  • @bmwmsport11 you cant override the Trac CTRL on a prius anyway = no wheelspin

  • Those people that made this must be retarded,,,,You can't say diesel is better driving slalom and so on... That's up to the chassi, not if it's a petrol or diesel engine. And for the burnout test. The prius is automatic, the Jetta didnt seem to be that. And i would guess its a 2.0 which has 140 hp and a lot of torqs. Of course the jetta will be faster than a prius, this is probably the most retarded test ever.

  • I just want to add the a Hummer isn't on the road three times longer than a Prius. Bob Callen bought his Prius in 2004 after driving what he says every economy car, he said he went with the Prius for the technology, it had the power he needed to climb the hills in Yosemite, and pass 18 wheeler trucks easily. He has a daily round trip of 320 miles, and his 2004 Prius has racked up over 500,000 miles, that's right, not kilometers, miles. 500,000 - and it still has the original battery.

  • i was expecting comments making fun of these cars

  • I agree, name calling is unnecessary. All the data is available, be it gov web site or other. Anyone who is serious about the truth will do the research. No, I don't believe everything the gov tells us, however gov testing and regulation is widely accepted by all car manufacturers, foreign and domestic. Do you feel that VW or diesels should be excluded from emissions testing and regulation?

  • Alright, let's be mature and not call people retards. I'm being nice and I haven't said anything rude to you or anyone.

"Even the best diesel powered vehicles on the road today emit more than 17x more smog forming emissions than a car powered by HSD."

Recently, they are now allowing some diesels in the CARB states but only because they fitted them with stricter emission systems which has an impact on their fuel economy.

  • in states that adopt California emission requirements. Conversely, hybrids can achieve high fuel economy, while generating far less emissions.

  • Since I can't post a link to the video, search "Prius Life Cycle" on here and watch it. They go through the whole process. The plant where the Prius is made had 50,000 trees planted at and around the factory in 2008, they had 50,000 square meters of solar panels installed that powers half of the plant. The discharged water from the plant is 5 times cleaner than the river itself, and they go into the whole battery process. It's worth watching.

  • @AUSTiNKiNSER Yea right... Current gen TDI meats ULEV standards. And lets not even go into the "BlueTec" Ram. All this moaning about how diesels pollute more because of -SOOT- is pure bullshit. Any flack sent towards a diesel in "testing" is because of the used of high sulfur fuel (and is unobtainable now unless you put non taxable "red diesel" in the tank) in a slanted test.

  • @SpecialKLSX ULEV is clean, but AT-PZEV is 72.8 percent cleaner. ULEV is

    surprising common too.

  • While some diesel vehicles get high fuel economy, it's important to consider emissions when considering a vehicles impact on the environment. Even the best diesel vehicles on the road today produce more than 17 times more smog forming emissions than a Hybrid Synergy Drive powered vehicle & emit fine particles identified as cancer-causing by air quality regulators. Further, since they do not comply with even the most lenient state emission requirements, diesel vehicles are not offered for sale i

  • @AUSTiNKiNSER Are you retarded? This diesel complies with even the strictest EPA regulations. It burns cleaner than gas because of the combustion process. Do some actual research about engines and how they function. you will see.

  • F-Ing cry baby's, If both cars put out the same amount of carbon it's clear that the TDI would have to stay parked and idle for about fifteen minutes every hour to pollute the same amount of space per gallon of fuel

  • Relying on fueleconomy.gov for statistics is like relying on fox news and cnn for informative news. ths would leave with less brain cells, dementia, parkinsons and Tourettes syndrome syndrome all in one. One would rather watch bbc or even sky news to get a better insight of what is happening in the world. Lets examine this issue critically? How may diesel models are available in the US as compared to Europe? Is a tdi that gets 800m per tank going to polute more than a hummer that only get 295m?

  • Comment removed

  • @broGabiza The TDI @40mpg for 800m creates 5980. grams of CO2,

Hummer @ 8mpg for 295m creates 4677 grams CO2 and the plug in prius at 103mpg for 1200m creates 2073 grams CO2. Of course it will look even worse for the TDI if you consider all the other bigger pollutants for diesels such as smoke etc..

  • @v8vito You really wanna go into the Co2 stuff look at how much CO2 is needed to make the Prius batteries.

  • @SpecialKLSX Compared to jetta diesel at 5 tons per year, making 52 pounds of battery is now where near 5 tons,

  • @v8vito Building a Toyota Prius causes more environmental damage than a Hummer that is on the road for three times longer than a Prius. As already noted, the Prius is partly driven by a battery which contains nickel. The nickel is mined and smelted at a plant in Sudbury, Ontario. This plant has caused so much environmental damage to the surrounding environment that NASA has used the dead zone around the plant to test moon rovers. The area around the plant is devoid of any life for miles.

  • @SpecialKLSX and this is toyotas fault how? it is no ones fault but the plant that produces the product for not keeping up on their upkeep.

  • @mysqueeker

Then it's not apple's fault for using foxcon products knowing that Foxcon has a problem with safety measures in their factories? Any professional company like toyota KNOWS damn well what they buy from ANYONE they contract out. Yet they do this whole "save the world in a prius" advertising... thing.

  • @v8vito All of this would be bad enough in and of itself; however, the journey to make a hybrid doesn't end there. The nickel produced by this disastrous plant is shipped via massive container ship to the largest nickel refinery in Europe. From there, the nickel hops over to China to produce nickel foam. From there, it goes to Japan. Finally, the completed batteries are shipped to the United States, finalizing the around-the-world trip required to produce a single Prius battery.

  • @SpecialKLSX The person who made up that absurd article about the hummer being more environmentally friendly actually admitted it was a hoax. I guess being sued for libel or making derogatory claims without data to back up the claims, can do that. Check your facts before you continue to inadvertently or maliciously make comments such as yours. Toyota has made enormous contributions towards the environment, not only in the processes but also ecological efforts.

  • @v8vito OH right Toyota's to the car world what Apple was to computers? How's about you understand that "the man" retracted his statements after he was issued a summons to court.

  • @SpecialKLSX And you feel that nickel mining is more invasive to the environment than oil drilling and refining. How so?

  • @v8vito because when you drill oil all you do is hurt fish. Not Black people.

Also the biggest form of fuel now for the US, (the biggest consumer of Oil) is drilling on US LAND. Followed closely by Canadian Tar Sand, then Offshore in Mexican territory drilling rigs.

Coming from an area where there are lots of Wells I can say your argument is null and void thanks to a oil rig less than 1/8th of a mile next to a drinking water well. Also within 50 foot of the rig crops are grown. I can getpics

  • I like the VW but to be true the Toyota Prius did have it's brakes on.

  • the jetta looks bad ass compared to that other pile of batteries

  • C class kept on breaking down and racking in thousands for mercedes..lemon. Camry was supposed to be more reliable but was junk too. The tdi solved all the ills and the merc td was just icing on the cake. The only propaganda is coming from the gas companies that bump up the diesel prices and claim that diesels are dirty. Its time US caught up with the rest of the world in technology and mentality..

  • @broGabiza gas companies and refineries would love to sell more diesel to the US ( bigger money maker). So you are saying that the EPA and other federal agencies which monitor pollution are full of it, the pollution readings for clean diesels on fueleconomy.gov are wrong?

  • @v8vito you believe everything the government tells you?

  • I sold my c230 sport for a Camry Hybrid only to sell the Camry three months later. Camry was a bunch of gimmicks and had no power whatsoever. Handling was toyotarish...junk.I then sold the Camry and got a tdi and a 1998 E300td. Its about time that America caught up with the rest of the world and give us diesel cars. Even Toyota, Kia, Hyundai , Nissan....... all have diesel lines in Europe. Those gas cooperation's don't want us to get more diesels and so propagate propaganda

  • Comment removed

  • @broGabiza REally, this video is propaganda. You expected to go from a c230 sport to a camry hybrid and get the same performance?

  • i love the charts two hundredths of a difference in g's and it off the chart for the jetta

  • ICE- petrol and diesel - 19th century technology, electric motor - 19th century technology.

The problem is choice, you didn't come here to make the choice you all came here to understand it:-). Combining two 19th century technologies won't get you to the 38th century regardless what Toyota tells you. One is enough,Tdi is the choice. Electric when the batteries are ready( they're but that's bad for business, ever noticed how much Li-Po advanced in past the 10 years - smartphones,anyone...?)

  • One car had the brakes on, when doing the burnout, and it wasn't the Prius.

  • I don't believe that the Jetta TDI can get 73 MPG US.

  • im all for Volkswagens, but cmon guys. When they cut to the bar graph showing hte difference from east test. And how rediculously farther the Jetta's bar stretched past the Prius, even if it was only a 2 second/mph difference??? Really??

  • @DemonOfRazgriz89 I know it makes the whole test seem like a sleazy marketing scam. If they'd just gave us the raw numbers the jetta would have still looked good.

  • Maybe u guys have not looked at my screen name. I have owned American muscle from the Grand Torino to Corvette convertible to the Buick GNX and some mild imports Subaru WRX and Nissan 350Z my woman drives my old Mazda MP3 "no not the digital music format" . Good memories with all those cars, great chic magnets, I have just moved forward and moved on. Maybe its because I'm older now and more conscience of the environment and cost of fuel and cost to our national security and dependence on oil.

  • @h8tow8ck

U must be joking. The tdi does not get 30mpg! Stop looking at the paper and look at what owners are getting. My bud gets 50+ mpg on the highway as well as 25+mpg in the city while pushin it hard. Diesels are the answer; they require no special maintainence. Hybrid batteries are a danger to the enviroment. Diesels can go 500k+ easily. Im waitin for a hybrid do get that. Hybrids are just for cities.

  • Prius is beautiful, but its engine suck :/

  • Comment removed

  • Put that shit up against a Diesel BMW

  • What a dump video.... Look first how much horsepower the prius as opposed to the jetta got. !!really weak relation!!

  • do you know, every 5-7 years in prius you have to change battery and its cost about between 2k-7k dollars, DIESEL ROCKS

  • @VikRamInc where did u get your facts? there are ppl out there with 2000 model prius's with the original batteries with over 300k miles and still going. ive never heard of a prius battery failing and the toyota dealer here has never replaced one since they have sold them. so much in fact they do not keep them in stock they have to order one when its needed. get your facts straight before you go bashing things.

  • It is obvious that Bob King VW dealer did a good job with this video and getting all of you people to buy into an almost extinct and outdated technology. Diesels are one step back from gasoline combustion engines and ten steps behind hybrid technology. Maybe you should also consider a horse and buggy.

  • @v8vito I would be careful when calling diesel "almost extinct" when over 50% of the new cars sold in Europe are diesel. "Outdated" is also a bit of a stretch when the new clean diesel cars of today produce less emissions than many of their gas powered counter-parts. Granted they can't compete with hybrids in that department directly but when you factor in the environmental impacts of nickel mining its pretty much a wash.

  • @arinpeters Clean Diesels are still the highest polluting passenger vehicles on the road, at a federal “Tier 2 bin 5” emissions standard its carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydrocarbons, and particulate matter (PM) is the highest polluter for passenger use. Oil dependence is also a problem because diesel requires 13% more crude to produce one gallon than producing a gallon of gas. (source U.S. EPA-DOE)

  • @v8vito That may be true because of the 3% of passenger vehicles in the US that are diesel, less than one percent are clean diesel passenger cars...most are 3/4 to 1 ton pickups which are still considered passenger vehicles but obviously have a higher level of pollutants. As to diesel fuel production...each barrel of crude produces a set amount of both gasoline and diesel fuel at different stages of refinement so to say that it takes 13% more crude to produce diesel doesn't make sense

  • @arinpeters fueleconomy.gov I believe they referred directly to the new clean diesels. And I'm not sure why the refining process requires more crude to produce diesel. Some references stated up to 25% more crude is required to produce diesel fuel.

  • @v8vito diesel engines are not behind anything. You obviously never drove a modern diesel and you don't know what you are talking about.

  • @UltraFighter18 When the internal combustion engine was developed, many people resisted. Much like many are resisting "moving ahead" from older technology, such as Diesels. I put diesel technology just slightly ahead of horse and buggy. Maybe you would like everyone to start driving steam power again. Don't be scared, evolution happens. Moving ahead and eliminating all fossil fuel burning transportation, including Prii should be everyone's goal.

  • @v8vito thank you for making it even more clear that you've never been in an modern diesel car an I'm talking about a diesel at least 10 years old. European gasoline engines are more high tech than american, so more advance technologically even so europen car makers often invest more in the development of better diesel engines. I think is much harder, and evolved technologically to make a low consuming powerful engine.

  • @UltraFighter18 Not sure what you mean by diesels being more technologically advanced than those of 10 years ago. With the exception of the the pollution scrubbers, to make it clean diesel, nothing has changed. It burns the fuel and is slightly cleaner than the old diesels. I don't consider the new diesels the same as buses or truck diesels. I don't think the progress has been sufficient to win me over, just like I would never own another ford small block 302 5.0L, or a chevy 5.7

  • @v8vito Have you ever driven a bmw 330d, or an A6 3.0 TDI??? If not your opinion on diesels doesn't mean anything because is not base on anything. And the new diesels are much more evolved than the 10 years old ones, anybody comparing 2 diesels like that would feel the difference in an instant. You just don't know what you are talking about.

  • @UltraFighter18 Here is where the disconnect exists. You are talking about how the car feels or how it handles. I'm talking about the technology and how it works. I have driven Peugeot and Citroen Diesels in Europe. They are great cars, handling and appearance, the technology is the flaw. Peugeot does have a Diesel Hybrid, which I would buy if it was available in US.

  • @v8vito There is no disconnection( I was talking about the benefits of the modern diesel engines) and what about the technology? what makes the gas engines more evolved technologically, and why are diesels so far behind???I'm very curious. (and we are talking about normal cars not super sport cars)

  • @UltraFighter18 Modern Diesels, now thats an oxymoron. Diesels and gasoline engines are not evolved, yes there have been slight improvements in both but still far off of where we need to be. One day, when gas costs $10 or $20 or $30 per liter or gallon, even the Prius will become obsolete. Some people look further ahead while others just marinate their entire lives obliviously. Some people still think the mullet is cool.

  • @v8vito clearly you don't understand the engine technology. I wasn't talking about the functioning principles of an engine I was talking about the technology of an engine. And why is modern diesel an oxymoron?? may be this you can explain.

  • @UltraFighter18 Diesel and Gas engines are 20th century technology. I'm done here but will leave you with two comments. Traded in my 2007 350Z, it used premium and got 25MPG, driving the Prius I saved $2000 in 2010 (bought a new laptop with it). My stock portfolio is choc full of big oil investments including exploration and foreign oil dist. Postings such as this confirms my belief that I will continue to make huge profits from big oil. So my final comment will be. Thanks

  • @v8vito So in the end you couldn't motivate this "Diesels are one step back from gasoline combustion engines and ten steps behind hybrid technology. Maybe you should also consider a horse and buggy. I put diesel technology just slightly ahead of horse and buggy. Maybe you would like everyone to start driving steam power again."

As expected. Electric engines are also an 20th century technology.

  • @UltraFighter18 Some of us have embraced the lesser of two evils and are reaping the rewards.

  • MPG's aside, for me it's about buying an efficient car that's actually worth driving. I don't want to have to second guess passing someone because my Prius accelerates like a turd. The driving dynamics of a Jetta are so much better than a Prius it's not even funny. Not to mention the fact that when a Prius' battery pukes out it ends up in a landfill...that's really green. I'll take my 2010 Jetta tdi that will still be running strong at 200k without filling up our nations landfills.

  • @arinpeters The Prius and VW accelerate practically the same. The Driving dynamics are practically the same. Did you watch the video (look at numbers b/c the graphs are screwed) The battery is 100% recyclable and warrantied for 150,000 miles, parts and labor. Taxi prius vehicles are clocking 300K miles and up, with original batteries. Yesterday I filled my tank $26.00 at $3.02 per gallon the next pump over was Diesel at $3.73 per gallon, enjoy.

  • @v8vito Yes the graphs are skewed but the VW does a 1/4 mile 1.3 seconds faster than the Prius which is like a lifetime in drag racing (or passing a wheezing Prius on a mountain pass....which is where you'll really notice the difference). I test drove both before buying and the Prius absolutely does not have the driving dynamics of the Jetta..read Car and Driver or Edmunds comparisons and they pick the Jetta every time. And no battery is 100% recyclable even if they claim it to be.

  • @arinpeters You test drove a 2010 or newer Prius. Did you have it set on power mode. If your answer to both of those questions is yes, and you feel that the TDI is still better than the Prius, then I will shut up.

  • @v8vito No reason to shut up, a good debate is always fun. I test drove a 2011 Prius....don't recall if power mode was on as the salesman didn't mention it at all. Although I test drove my Jetta in regular, not "sport" mode so I'd say it's still a fair comparison driving each vehicle in its mode fuel-efficient state.

  • Comment removed

  • Perhaps they should include how often each car has to visit the car workshop after the first 100.000km. Oh wait, forget that. VW cant win that....

  • The Jetta should outperform the Prius, since its a normal chassis mated to a diesel engine...

The Prius is from start to finish made ECO. Even with Eco-Friendly Materials.

But.. Test both cars after 100.000 KMs... The Jetta will burn so much oil... PWND..

Test them in comfort... Jetta has stiffer suspension and Chassis, thus less comfortable.. Thats why it handles better too... PWND

Idiot comparison... Really stupid.. The only thing that Volkswagen can compare its shitty cars is to Hybrids...

  • what a load of crap! VWs suck! i'll take a white Prius with black rims please.

  • Holy biased graphs batman. Setting the scale trying to show that the TDI smoked the prius, when they were actually fairly similar. The Slalom and Skid Pad results are fairly similar, 58vs60, and .81vs.83.

  • @mrb692 Agreed, and with the two vehicles being almost identical, I almost feel bad divulging that I "am getting" 54 lifetime MPG and "getting UP TOO" 61MPG on my 2010 Prius. See my other post for video evidence.

  • @v8vito MPG on the sticker on a new 2012 Jetta TDI is 61mpg with 6 spd manual,60 with the auto.

  • @chuck738 The Jetta and Golf TDI 2012 are both 30/42 according to edmunds. The Passat diesel is 31/43. You can also cross reference with fueleconomy.gov. Where did you see a sticker showing 61mpg manual?

  • @v8vito I was just looking at new ones on the lot on friday, transport Canada estimated economy on the window.

  • @chuck738 Ah, Canada. You use imperial gallons right? So it is about 30/42 MPG US. One IG is equal to 1.201 US Gallon. or 20% greater volume at normal atmospheric pressure and avg temp.

  • @v8vito Actually 61 imperial is 73 US gallons

  • Comment removed

  • @chuck738 I just looked on vw.ca,says 4.6l/100km hwy,6.7l/100 city, that's close to 60miles to an imperial gallon,I think it does work out close to 41 or 42 us gallon, sorry for my mistake.

  • I love how the graphs look like the TDi is like, 2x as good as the prius when its only a VERY small differnce.. but who cares? fuck prius.

  • diesels dont like these burnouts....

  • POWER BRAKING CHEATER!!!! TDI still wins though, bwhahahaha

  • Comment removed

  • @GamelsmurfXXX Are you German or retarded?

  • Comment removed

  • @GamelsmurfXXX Jesus tapdancing christ that made even less sense than your first comment

  • VW really???

  • front wheel drive burnouts SUCK

  • jetta is so much better lol

  • vw jetta tdi win

  • The end with the pointless peel out...was...pointless...

The Prius has a space ship dash board...

  • Maybe we got off on the wrong foot here. In my opinion the Prius works better for me. If both cars were offered to me FREE, i would choose the Prius. Here's why; It drives, handles, accelerates like a normal car and I only have to refuel once every 3 weeks with $26.00 since it gets 50-60mpg. There is no doubt that they look different, have different tire sizes and have a different following. The Prius is my choice because it is very similar to other cars but with the excellent fuel economy.

  • @v8vito My TDI gets roughly 43 City and 47 highway (most people bench more than 50 MPG highway) and cost about the same as a Prius, and will last about 5X longer. Oh, and is more fun to drive than ANY sport compact I've driven. Prius' handle like a weighted down golf cart...

  • yea but the prius has 185-65-r15 tires

the jetta TDi has 205/55R16 much better grip

the suspension in the prius is tuned for comfort not sport.

the prius is cheaper and quiter and more efficient

  • Too bad your VW barely outperformed the old Prius. Try the same comparison with the 2010-11 Prius and you will be disappointed with the VW performance AND fuel economy.

  • @v8vito Even if it were to outperform it..its still hideous!! haha

  • @v8vito then you have to use the 2010-2011 VW. Aaaand we are right back where we started arnt we?

  • You know you've run out of options when you have to compare your new car to a Prius. Oh god.

  • @8xxABHIxx8 Hahahha "New car"

  • and put the new prius to the test not the old one

  • @fagyongy1 they made a new jetta aswell...

  • stupid idiots prius is a green car jetta is a loung cancer

  • The graphs aren't biased they are stagger started on the X axis. They cut off most of the data to near the end so it looks like there is a huge difference. But honestly what do you prefer a Prius with an 8 year life battery and hazardous waste (so much for eco-friendly) or a Jetta TDI with a life well over 250k miles.

  • That was the most biased bar graph I've ever seen!

  • loled at the front wheel drive burn out...

  • Notice the graphs are scaled to show a huge difference between Prius and Jetta while the actual numbers are not too far off.

  • Lol, it this is so biased that they had to F up the graphs. The difference isn't that much but they make the difference the whole screen. With this tactic you can many graph look one way.

  • lol its not that much better.... every single graph has a fucked up scale and its extremely biased.

  • prius is better

  • Yeah, that was kinda misleading. It didn't emphasize the green capabilities. Either way, the Japanese versus German engineering is no comparison. Deutsche macht besser.

  • Wow, the Prius did much better than I expected!

Watch the Top Gear episode is worth a watch for most real world drivers:

    BMW M3 against Toyota Prius

  • I look on Ebay quite often to see what cars are getting up there in millage and I only see like one Prius every once in a while over 200k. (Like right now the highest is a 01 with 158k) I just think a straight diesel is less complicated then a gas and electric together. I fill up at a truck stop so it's about 15-20 cents more then gas. Besides when I ran this baby off bio-diesel+(a additive the TDIs use) it was $1.50-$1.70 per gall. I ran that for about 60k. I wish i made more time to make it.

  • @Someguy839 Battery/Trans problems are more common with the first gen but still rare. TDIs arent straight diesel they are turbo'd, and a turbo is a consumable part just as much as a battery is if not more. I would be impressed if you've never had to rebuild your turbo in 400k, as that would be highly unusual. The TDI is slightly faster than the Prius and might squeeze out a few more hwy mpgs but that's it, Prius's brakes last forever since they are rarely used, fuel is cheaper, car is cheaper

  • @Someguy839 I feel like most people that buy TDI for the economy are simply opposed to hybrids for no real good reason, they just don't want to say they have a hybrid and feel turbo diesel sounds so much cooler. That's cool with me though, cause I've been laughing all the way to the bank for years now and I don't give two shits what people think of me. If you actually do the math on both cars, the cost of ownership of the prius cheaper if you assume neither car suffers a catastrophic failure.

  • @raptorlp03 Owenership is cheaper then a TDI how do you figure? I own a 00 Golf TDI 215,000 still going strong only standard maintence (tires brakes tbelt and such) 53mpg and $46 ($4.15 a gallon) to fill up 700 miles on a tank all highway. No batteries required :)

  • @GasCapECBOK Well you pretty much listed it there. Due regenerative braking your rarely have to change brakes (150k on mine they still look fine), there isn't a belt to change on the newer prius, gas is almost always cheaper then diesel and in 90% of driving the prius will beat out the TDI in mpg. Your math isn't quite right for your tank cost, and 53mpg is really good but remember the Prius can get 50+mpg on the highway AND in gridlock traffic (or even better!). That's how I figure :)

  • Sure, I'd take the TDI over the Prius, but why do they have to scale the performance graphs so deceptively? Notice in the G-force chart at 1:37 how a 2 or 3 percent difference appears like a 100 percent difference.

  • @constantjardinero Marketing. Obviously a TDI would out perform the Prius in every way. But in the city, mpgs between the two would be a huge difference. Prius would way out perform (in the mpg department) vs the TDI

  • I own a 1998 vw jetta tdi with 396,000miles on it when your Prius makes it that far you let me know.

  • @Someguy839 my uncles prius broke down at 50,000 miles and he bought a jetta tdi a few weeks ago

  • @Someguy839 They haven't been out long enough really ,though there have been many to go 300,000+ already. My parents F150 has 315k and it's a V8 gasser and tows all the time so your POS diesel 4 banger can swallow my load 400k is no big deal for any diesel.

  • @raptorlp03 I know those ford diesels are amazing. My dad owned ford diesel for years and never took care of them and they still were awesome. I agree with you that the ford diesel v8 will outlast the 4 cyl I have. But that 4-cyl diesel isn't a POS. It's made by Audi for there A3 tdi and if you look on ebay there are TONS of TDIs over 200k. (Same with the ford V8) Many Prius drivers have to change the batteries and transmissions in the 200-300k mi range. That's extremely costly.

  • @raptorlp03 I WISH ford would sell there Fiesta diesel here in America. Ford has a ECOnetic fiesta that gets 65mpg in the UK (20% larger gallon there) So it right around 50mpg US which is amazing. They say however that they would have to build a new plant to make the small diesel engine in Mexico here in the Americas. Personally I don't care if when ford makes them in the UK and have to pay higher labor cost in making the car. Add on a couple grand and I'd buy it!!!

  • @Someguy839 "Many Prius drivers have to change the batteries and transmissions in the 200-300k mi range." This is just not true though. You are making this assumption, but in reality there are no facts to back this up. The Prius uses a CVT which by design has less parts to fail then a standard transmission, and their batteries have a .003 percent failure rate. Diesel costs more than gas and real world city MPG the TDI can't touch the Prius since the Prius simply turns off it's engine.

  • @raptorlp03 It was a bit of a assumption I was basing it off 2 friends who had 2001 and 2002 respectively. The 01's CEL came on @ 210k and transmission started slipping @ 230k and then when she brought it to the dealership they told her two of the battery cells were bad. Then i had another friend with a 2002 Prius that had some major transmission issues @ 170k. I'm sure the newer ones are better because technology has increased. I've heard alot of stories about high mileage Prius having problems

  • UMMM, I think the hybrid(s) need to go!

Why the hell don't Toyota and Honda build Diesels for the American market instead of those friggin' hybrids?!?!?

  • @thespeez I'm not sure if Honda does, but Toyota markets Toyota Corollas with Diesel Engines in them. They're only marketed, however, in the Middle East and Asia. (I saw it on T.V. one day, and was like, "Why don't they sell them in North America?!").
