@94jbmx I think he only spins it when it out of ammo. He always seems to do it when he's done shooting stuff.
On a side note, that spin is so badass. I don't think I've ever seen a rifle being manhandled as if it was a pistol. At least not in such an effective and badass way.
I was watching early Gunsmoke episodes last night and told my wife an undertaker would certainly have a lot of work in Dodge. but holy smoke - he'd clean up in North Fork!
A great show, truly. My mini 14 shoots like a dream but i'm darned if it looks as cool as Lucas' winchester!
Imagine what The Rifleman could do with a Colt M16A with a 30 or 40 round clip/ magazine filled with .223 cal bullets. 1000 rounds per minute sure increases his rate of fire!!!!!
No other TV western was as INTENSE as this show. The only issue I have with the show is they used the same Music Score over and over..it works for ONE or 2 weeks...but over 168 episodes...Man...couldnt someone write some new background music once in a while lol
SOmeone needs rto re-erlease the entire series PROPERLY season by season to DVD..and maybe do an remastered ENHANCED versio nfo the gunfights..add some blood quibs..ythe network wouldnt let them show blood IMPACT shots in 1958..they actually DID show a fgew IMPACT shots..but not with blood squibs..blood was seen AFTER someone was shot. SAM PECKINPAH quit over networks refusal to let him do show as he wanted (with graphic violence).. favorite Western..holds up VERY well. Lucas a MAN OF TRUTH
I don't think he'd really have accuracy by shooting that way. He's holding the rifle at his waist with one hand, pumping the lever with the other, which results in a wild pivoting motion of the rifle.
Nowadays, if he shot one outlaw he'd be thrown in jail. They'd tell him you should have called 911! They'd confiscate all his guns and melt them down. His son would become a ward of the state.
Don't know why but if they ever did some new version of this i could see Aaron Eckhardt playing the new McCain. I guess its the jaw. Don't know if he could deliver the lines right.
Why would you mess with Lucas ? If you notice closely in the episodes----he is ambidextrous. He shoots that fancy rifle with either hand. No doubt a gift that helped him in 2 Pro Sports....
Anybody know where the Sam Peckinpah version of the Rifleman is that was out a few years ago? I've been looking all over for it. Thanks for your help.
My old account DHart007 had the Sam Peckinpah version and which was closed by Youtube for copyright violations. I had the video on another site which got a copyright infringement strike there. I assume it was the Wild Bunch footage intermixed with the Rifleman footage that was the problem.
@devroshart I was in the process of looking for THAT video of yours before I read your posting. You had done a hell of a job!! LOVED IT!! I'm so sick of that copyright infringement bullshit..for real!
Sure he killed alot but in all of the episodes one thing is present, Good truimphs over evil and that there is a price to pay for evil. Lessons that need to be taught today to the young gang bangers.
I think he racked up about 453 kills & 247 wounded in the series...and his young son witnessed half of those. Today, the authorities would say he was a bad parent & a poor role model.
@Baskerville22 Mad Magazine'...Paw, what's all the shooting for? Just praticin' son. A man's gotta fight for what he believes in. And you believe in bein' gentle and peaceful, right Paw? No, son. I believe in killin' people.' Then he shoots a stranger passing by. 'Just look at 'em, son. There ain't nothing as gentle and peaceful as a deadman.'
@devroshart Lucas killed oh more than Little Joe - Bonanza was 60 minutes - 3 brothers - and a Dad - Rifleman was 30 minutes and was directed by Sam Peckinpaw ... the master of the wetsern Blood Bath-
"...oh not me, I'm a rancher. I use a gun for huntin' animals, not men." LOL!! Classic line. Well, he is right. He's just making sure he isn't the hunted
I think it would have been cool to have an episode where you find out Lucas was as good if not better with a handgun like men have his rifle and he's forced to draw a pistol just like in the end of Quigly down under
Everybody, sing along to "Psycho Dad"! Just follow the dancing bullet O --- Who's that riding in the sun? Who's the man with the itchy gun? Who's the man who kills for fun? Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad. He sleeps with a gun but he loves his son Killed his wife 'cos she weighed a ton. Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad, Psycho Dad.
I cant find the video of Lucas telling mark, Remember I use my rifle as a last resort... BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG. this one is close enough- hunting animals not people HA!
@buckracer Can't find the one where Mark finally learns how to shoot. Except Lucas demonstrates by holding it like a bat. 'Grip it on the end for extra power. Follow the pitcher's windup..' 'Aw Paw! Stop talkin' baseball. We're out west now.' 'So are the Dodgers son. And with the right trainin', you can make the team. Think I want you to end up a gentle, peace lovin' nobody like me? Stick to baseball son. That's where the real money is!'
Damn.....i wish I could have been like Lucas McCain....instead I ended up being a sniveling, coward, gruveling in the dirt to bullies, hiding in corners and eating poached eggs on soft milk-toast

Dennis Hopper, Denny Miller, Dabs Greer, John Dehner, Julia Adams, Thomas Gomez, Carleton Carpenter, John Anderson, Royal Dano were also employed by "The Rifleman." Sam Peckinpah did some directing on the show, too. Top that, "Gossip Girl."
The first scene in this montage with Vic Morrow was a great episode where Morrow steals Lucas' rifle and money and Lucas takes off after him - unarmed at first.
Sweet video. I recently saw Conners in the movie Big Country and he sure was different than his rifleman persona. However it shows you that he really was a good actor.
He was good with that rifle both left and right handed just count that one scene when he rolls on the street he shoots first left then right then left. Wish I was ambidextrous like Chuck
I love this video along with the rifleman mash up, I pump my you tube playlist into my garage thru a old roland 800 watt quad channel thru 4 moniter columns, in to my work shop , If I crank it , it sounds so real , Ive had the police called on me , lol here in the old west , Roswell NM USA
love the way he spin cocks that rifle, and thats a full length barrel, don't think many men could do that ,but with his height of 6' 5", he had long arms.
I can see how the lever has a screw which 'pulls' the trigger every time he cycles the lever but I don't understand why doesn't fire when he does his twirly thingy .... it should fire at the end of that too. Or is he out of cartridges at that point?
The screw can be adjusted so it won't fire when cocked, allowing the twirly action. It's when they mix the twirl with automatic fire, that they're cheating.
Good job and pretty cool, too! With the sheer amount of bodies buried outside of North Fork, I wouldn't be surprised if the water table underground became polluted! "...I use a gun for hunting animals, not men." (good one, Lucas boy - but who are you trying to kid??! lol!)
Excellent work---funny quotation at end. I also thrived on The Rifleman. I liked Cesare Danova when he said "It will depend upon my mood" and in another episode he says to Jack Elam---"The banknote you just destroyed represents a considerable sum of money."
That's Vic Morrow at the beginning. That's Sammy Davis Jr. at 2:00. I think that's Barry Morse at 2:06. Whit Bissell 2:35. Claude Akins at 2:47. Whit Bissell again at 3:18. Richard Anderson at 4:18. And Claude Akins again at 4:46.
This version of the "rifleman massacre" is slightly different from the original, I left out two guys getting shot and added in the target shooting scene, so the count should be 26.
The amazing thing about the Rifleman is that it was only thirty-minutes long (less commercials) and yet managed to tell every story fully. You didn't feel like you were being short changed on story or character development. As much as I loved this show, I'm afraid this era in TV programming is gone and will never return :(. Thanx for posting it.
This was my favorite western next to BONANZA.MaCAIN was HELL with that rifle!! PLEASE POST FULL EPISODES.I loved watching this when I was growing up!!! Great work man!!
It seems like Claude Akins always played the heavy. I heard that he was a really nice man in real life though.

Good job and pretty cool, too! With the sheer amount of bodies buried outside of North Fork, I wouldn't be surprised if the water table underground became polluted! "...I use a gun for hunting animals, not men." (good one, Lucas boy - but who are you trying to kid??! lol!)

@WallyPlumstead Mad Magazine: 'We've got chores, son. Feedin' cattle, mendin' fences...' 'An' stackin' bodies, Paw! On account of they're beginnin' to smell right powerful!'

Rifleman - 28
Bad Guys - 0

John Hoyt is the actor at 2:06.
