  • Wow, I bought the album when it came out and immediately relegated it to he never play pile but hearing that for the first time since then, well it just sounds top notch! Gotta spin that disc again. My ears n mind must ave also changed wi time (although I was into n expecting summat a bit different back then).

  • John Squire is one of my all time fav guitarists..He plays it like it's an extention of himself..he knows it so well..The man's a feckin' legend in my humble opinion..So happy to have the Roses back also..

  • @reaper060670 Hey, reaper. Thanks for sending me this vid and turning me onto John Squire. Never heard of him before, but he's one of my faves now.

  • love both of his solo albums infinitely better than anything he did with the seahorses yet somehow completely off of most peoples radar.

  • he sounds like Bob Dylan.... much respect to his musicianship that took me through a great journey in life....

  • criminally under-rated

  • his voice sounds like john lennon's! Top song and gret musician.

  • TO MUCH COCAINE, HE KILLED IT ALL - SHAME

  • hold crap. He sings like John Lennon! WHy the fuck is he not making music anymore??

  • Great tune. But I wish Ian and john would just bury the hatchet. I don't care if they never are on the same stage ever again. Together, they made history; no other band in the last thirty years has been held in such high regard as the Stone Roses. If they would just let by gones be by gones.

  • jesus, this is worse than fools gold at fuji. and thats bad.

  • Does any 1 no what squire is doing

  • @2202liam

    wwwdotjohnsquiredotcom

  • I enjoyed this song more when i wasnt watching the video at the same time. It was almost painful watching John singing. He didnt look natural at all. But yeah...nice tune.

  • Intro sounds like Don't Look Back In Anger

  • Love John, Love The Stone Roses, but this is PANTZ!!!

  • Terrible voice John..sounds a bit like a cat trying to eat it's own throat..

  • superb singer, songwriter, lyricist guitarist., i dont want him making up with browny, used to think brown was cool but hes a chump!! still gets some good songs out but squire is awsome!

  • John will never be as good in anything as he was in playing for the roses!

  • John, put the paints away and pick the guitar back up.

  • Superb!!!

Very Bob Dylan feel to is, a huge compliment indeed :-))

  • Legend

  • He sure sounds a lot like Dylan

  • sounds like dylan,squire is a ledgend

  • It just makes me sad that Ian and John cant shake hands, blame the drugs and move on. I really really wish they'd just make it up, pointless. Seems to me it's still all about ego. One day they'll regret it, cos they'll get old, death and sickness comes to us all at one point sadly. Come back squires and give us more of your beautiful music and start influencing musicians again.

  • is that john singing with eric idle

  • I'm sorry mate I'm not too sure x

  • @a1974h hahaha! brilliant

  • @a1974h

    ahahahah....

    or Eric Rutle?

  • that is the first time ive agreed with a tim well done ! lol

  • John Squire has an excellent singing voice, he is also a very good song writer, an incredibly talented musician, and time will prove this to be a fact.

  • the lad cant sing. animal songwriter we all know that but get someone else to sing....

  • I'd love to hear this song done in a studio with Ian. It's one of my favourite songs ever.

  • I just love this song, shame he left the music for good for me it's a great loss even hen I love him as an artist

  • In spite of his appallingly bad vocals, this song proves that John can still make better music than Brown. I love a lot of Ian's music, but he's never come close to this....if only John could hire a vocalist!

  • I like squire but............ Ian brown's voice is better in my opinion!BrownieS new album is lethal!!!!

  • he's good .. bit like bob dylan

  • he looks very funny when he sings...

  • Bob Dylan eat ur heart out!!! Strange how once cutting edge artists end up doing folk country music in their older yrs.

  • Comment removed

  • punctuations marks may help whatever it is ur trying to say. Don't quite follow....

  • Well.....he does sound like Dylan in this song.....AND....I'm NOT a big Dylan Fan. My observation was merely that Artists like Squire , who at one point in thier careers , usually when they're young , are cutting edge and on the cusp of doing great , interesting & "different" music end up in their "older" or "later" years playing country and/or Folk music. As though Folk or Country were somehow more adult or more mature styles of music. I don't agree.

  • hushhhhhhhhhhh u.

  • come on... its a good song but fuck me he wudnt hold a candle til browner...he safer sticking to the art...

  • my fav song of all time!!

love brown but time changes everytime is superb.

f u k the art squire. gt the tunes bangin

  • better one out of the roses

  • It takes all the Stone Roses to make their greatness. This is great but together they are amazing. They should get together before they can't due to illness etc.

  • I think it's better than Ian's solo singing personally, it has much charm.

  • people change. clothes change. haircuts change. time changes everything.

  • indeed.

  • @imperialpt2

I recall that quotation, it was from a Roses book. Im sure you'll agree, Squire never spoke much in interviews but when he did, you'd be reeled in and listen with all your attention. A very smart and wise man - Im pleased to say I met him in 2003 - One of my most treasured memories. He's exactly how he is on TV - reserved and quiet.

  • literally signed upto youtube just to leave a comment on this video. amazing stuff, heard this song loads but love how raw it sounds acoustic! hope squire comes back into music his paintings are good but hes an awesome musician not just playing guitar but writing songs too, afterall him and brown wrote all/most of the roses tunes and he did well with seahorses (sort of) come on squire we need you back!!!

  • I fuckin adore John Squire.. doesn't look like he enjoys singing much though.

  • Its obvious he's going for a Dylan lennon style vibe.. still think his music is better than his art though!!!!

  • Got this album signed by the great man himself. Quality album imo, so lick my love-pump.

  • its couldve been quite a big tune with better vocals. they do give it an earthy, weary quality but

its made for a better voice than squires for me.*

  • Like Ian's? (joke)

  • John Squire is truly a legend.

  • Who's the mini-me with the other guitar?

  • Tim Burton? ;)

  • you seem to be forgetting the roses are over

  • I feel it time for them to get back together while there is still some creativity left in them both!

  • There were four creative people in the roses. Both four of them? He's a good singer anyway.

  • well i cant agree with squire being a good singer. hes a brilliant guitar player and a bloody creative musician, but singning, that aint his best!

  • nah i think whats done is done

they could never top what they used to do

maybe come back for a reunion show

    but no new material

  • They should have never let him sing. How can a man with such a tuneful genius on guitar not notice he sings like an old drunk with a kebeb in his mouth on the long walk home.

  • i like his voice personally

  • too dylan for my liking

  • treasure him britain ,a great

  • i seen him in concert in manchester and was the best concert i ever been too and thats wth seeing oasis , velevet revolver , supergrass , phonics ,

    truly underrated !!

  • squire has recently said he went to watch the zepplin reunion and it opened his mind???

  • time changes everthing. how true is that.

  • Godsake, reading these comments and listening to this song is making me fill up ! It sounds like we all have such a special place in our heart for the Roses. Just find Ian and John's rift a real waste of time and talent. Wonder whether a reunion would ruin all of the fond memories we have of them ?? mmmm.... just off for a quick cry !

  • He sounds like cross between Shane MacGowan and Mark E Smith but I think he can hit and hold a note far better than the other singers in his bands.

  • come on... i reckon he (like we) LOVE Browns voice (and Brown's weird arse-kickin' ways)

i worship what producers/mixers do to get down the best of the best...

  • The worst primary-school art in the world...but the greatest guitarist to ever draw breath...get the Roses back together ffs!

  • yes, i still harbor hopes of a triumphant guitar-god comeback album from squire. it'll be solo, i've given up on a reunion. in the interviews he always says he's done and doesn't play much guitar now. it's sad.

  • As much I love (musically) Ian I still really respect john squire's music and his art which is just as good :-)

  • get on the phone to browners an make that cunt get the roses bek together. you truly are a hero.but let your fingers do the talking

  • why the fuck wont the roses get back together

  • Much in the same way as paul weller wont get back together with the jam, because they dont live through past successes/they're successful solo artists in there own right.

  • Who is the other guitarrist?

  • he sounds like Dylan

  • Ahhh! My childhood hero.....put your paint brushes dowm my son and get back to what you do best......

  • the roses had it all full stop

  • lets not make this a battle, when squire disbanded the roses he got the contract from geffen while i.brown was literaly left on the scrapheap, the tables have now turned but any roses fan will realise it's a crying fucking shame it came to this.!

  • Is it true that he retired from music now and he's just into arts??? If it's true it's really sad, we are going to loose probably the best guitarrist ever :(

  • johnny squire,, fcukn legend,,eccentric genius, musicly,, lyricly,,the man the artist, his beliefs etc, one of the best guitarists ive ever heard,, both ian and john in fact all 4 inspired all roses earlier stuff, without any of the four the sound wouldve been a lot dfrnt,, as a huge fan/collector ive never given john any less accolade than ian,,as most seem to do, john actually wrote more than ian did

  • Very well said!

  • @vadar03 i second vadar!

  • should have called this "dead without RENI"

  • huh?

  • john squire is the most talented guitarist of modern time without a doubt

it saddened me when i went to see him at manchester academy (2004)and he was shaking his head when he got a bigger reaction from his roses tunes

some thing has gone amiss! we have all been robbed! ian and john more than most yet they are too busy bickering with each other from afar!

manchesters and uk's best kept secret r.i.p!

  • i feel particularly sorry for john. everybody worships ian, purely because he was the face of the roses, but john has so much more talent.

  • steady on! Ian is a talented man, strong solo career should prove that.

    this sounds like George Harrison

  • mmm, coolest of the the daggy fabfour,

I hope Squire puts out a new super snarly lovesong . Wish he would do a cover of John's Children's "Just What You Want Just What You Get" on the b-side

  • john squire is a total legend, doubters must remember - no stone roses = no oasis.

    we need more squire music

  • Great songwriter, great guitarist but I don't like his voice.Still rather listen to it than ian brown though he writes good songs and he can sing in tune!

  • dont know about anybody else, but i would rather listen to ian brown singing ba ba black sheep out of tune than this crap, john you walked out at the wrong time mate, you ruined everything, time is my everything.

  • You'd rather listening to a white man, pretending to be black, with virtually no music skills? Who can't hold a note either. Nice one.

  • does he pretend to be black? I know the World is Yours is a bit hiphopy, but steady on man. virtually no music skills? listen to the music, you cleft, he's a gifted man

  • I mean, he writes none of the music himself, apart from a few tracks. His lyrics are very good, and he makes good melodies. I'm not saying he's not talented; it's evidential that he is.

  • hang on a minute he wrote most of the roses songs and the music and he is and will always be the most talented guitarist from the uk

  • We're on about Ian brown.

  • nice one, shoulda been a big hit

  • love it thanks

  • thakyou whitelabeldemo, I've been in "exile for four decades", but ever so glad to have the noggins drenched in this gear...
