Article 6 of the US Constitution says "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States". Requiring that the President pledge allegiance to "one nation under God" is therefore an illegitimate religious test. The Republicans should have thought about that before they corrupted our originally secular Pledge of Allegiance by adding "under God".

When the flag is not displayed, those present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed there.
That is actually US Code on what we are suppose to do during the anthem.. The fact that someone would call anyone ignorant for not doing their own research shows your own ignorance within!! The president WAS in the wrong here, and completely lack all etiquette when it comes to respect for a nation.

Article 6 of the US Constitution says "no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States". Requiring that the President pledge allegiance to "one nation under God" is therefore an illegitimate religious test. The Republicans should have thought about that before they corrupted our originally secular Pledge of Allegiance by adding "under God".

During a pledge you put your hand over your heart. A lot of people do it during the National Anthem as well but it is not required because the Anthem is NOT a pledge. Watch a sporting event, how many athletes do you see with hands on their hearts? A lot look down at the ground in concentration or just stand politely and respectfully. @capetorial Actually, it is a threat. That is enough evidence of intent. For example, if there was an officer present, and you said " I am going to shoot that man refusing to pledge allegiance in the face" you would be arrested. What makes Obama any different. Also, I don't think of it as arguing either, I think of it as friendly discussion.

Anyone in my country is free to say what they want to say about our king. They can ridicule, point middle fingers, show butt, spit and they can even attempt to kill the king. This is perfectly legal in my country.
