The method shown in the video is no longer required. Use a 10 dollar plastic "butt out" tool. Works perfect, every time I've used it. Stick in, twist, and pop out the whole anus, which is then tied off. Takes less than 10 seconds and no reaching in anywhere.

Stupid question but, why the heck don't you remove the rectum when you gut? Wyoming company makes a real nice bone saw that breaks down. So does Gerber.

Use the bone saw to cut the pubic bone out, then take rectum out (still attached to intestines) while gutting. Simple and easy and you're down there getting messy anyhow while field dressing the animal.

When we field dress, we open the breast bone too and when we're done, everything is gone, esophagus, lungs, heart, stomach intestines etc.

Cutting around the rectum, nicely done. The only thing I do differently is When I gut the deer I don't cut the gut leading to the rectum. Leave it in one piece and when you pull the guts out the rectum will pull back through towards the inside of the deer and out with the guts. Don't cut the anal cavity in half and you won't get turds in your deer under the pelvis. You just need to make sure you cut deep enough around the rectum to cut away all the fat that is holding the turd tube in place
