  • why add the 18" passive? 2 of those 15" passive radiators should be more than enough to handle anything that one 15" sub can throw at them.

  • Wondering about the internal bracing/volume and total added mass on the passive for 19hz tuning. I see a lot of mass swing starting around 16hz, is it carpet wobble or does the added mass effects the entire cabinet so much? Thank u much.

  • is that 2hz?

  • What is the point of testing below the audible range?

  • @sparky3489

We still perceive the frequencies through tactile feel, lol. Realism requires sound above and below audible range

  • @2002ZRX1200R But if you have the correct usage of subsonic filters, there really is no point? Realism matters little if you can't hear above the audible range and you can't feel above the audible range.

  • @sparky3489

if your system is capable of mechanical stability and reproduction that low there's no need for filters lol. Filters protect drivers from over-excursion or amps from running outta headroom. a driver like the tc3K is a virtually bottomless design capable of nearly 4" p-p Xmech, properly powered and built, infrasonic filters are useless and rob you of usable bandwidth. cutting this driver off below 20Hz wouldn't even allow it to play to its fs.

  • @2002ZRX1200R Not much media goes down that low either. Still, if you want to "feel" frequencies below 20Hz, get a buttkicker. It is much more efficient.

  • @sparky3489

Whether buttkicker, Aura Bass Shaker or any other low freq tactile transducer, there is no substitute for swept air volume when it comes to realism. Simply shaking something only provides one aspect needed for the experience to pass from the fun to a breath-taking experience. The vibrations from them can be perceived as sound, but not as natural sound.

Check out "Bone Conduction" on Wikipedia

  • @2002ZRX1200R Interesting....

  • @sparky3489

Alot of media nowadays drops into the teens, saving private ryan subharmonic drops with nearly every explosion and district 9 is thoroughly filled with upper teen Hz. Alot of music outside the Bass genre is now using very low freq's (no not just rap/hip-hop) Check out some stuff from Chill on sirius and from radioio ambient, 20Hz is becoming a commonly used freq in music and with Blu-Ray capable of recording single digits at reference level sooner or later things will be even lowr

  • @2002ZRX1200R There's a reason movies are adding upper teen Hz. Scientists have found that sounds in the range of 7-19Hz, while imperceptible to human ears; causes feelings of fear, dread or panic. So if you want to add some emotional impact to your movies, you manipulate peoples minds with sounds they don't even know are there.

  • @2002ZRX1200R,

You're generally correct, but I'd like to add that single digit LF isn't a strictly blu-ray phenomenon. There are actually dvd titles with content clear down to 3-4hz (...war of the worlds for example...). In fact, there has been titles previously containing infrasonic frequencies re-released on blu-ray with high passed LF content.

  • @2002ZRX1200R One of the best comments I've read on this subject. Well said.

  • @FockfordRosgate

    Thanks man

  • That's alot of passives for a single 15"... You should be able to get away with a single 18" passive, or better yet two 15" passives. Guess if you want to spend the extra money you can ;)

  • i forgot ask what amplifier u use ?

  • Nice what speakers u use its active or passive subwoofer? One of them is passive radiator or im wrong ?

  • @TheDSOS

    1 active woofer (tc3000 15") 3 Passives (2 15" and 1 18") They're all tc sounds. At the time I was using a behringer ep2500. Recently switched to a yamaha p7000s (3200watts)
