If you liked the previous albums, then "always being the same" is a good thing. Metallica got a lot of hate because St. Anger and Death Magnetic were too differente from their previous albums, even though 99% of the population don't know the difference between one type of metal and another.

You're right in allmost every point, except one: "Death Magnetic" isn't that different to the previous albums. The most important thing, that made it that succesful is that it sounds like one of the albums of the 80's but of course there is some influence by the sound of the 21 century^^

I've heard a lot of complains about "riffs being boring" "guitar solo's being non-existant" "it being a rehash" and so on.

I like the album for what it is, and not for what it could be or how it is (or is not) different from something else. Same goes for The Offspring

Um... I'm not sure, it does sound very pro-war, but I just have a really hard time believing they would do anything pro-war or pro-military. In either case, it sounds like its off conspiracy of one and i dont quite like that sound. In my opinion the verses and bridges are exceptionally bad, and some of the lyrics lines are just plain nooby. "And you can cry, 'teacher come help me!'"
