The holy grail of this machine would be the detection of the "Higgs Boson" the "particle" responsible for giving some particles their mass. This is the only particle in the "Standard Model" of physics that has not yet been detected. Finding this would "Confirm" the standard model as a legitimate working model of the universe (not including gravity).

Even at full power the LHC doesn't produce particles with energies as high as those particles have that hit our atmosphere all the time.

Even if it does create tiny black holes they cannot grow because inorder to become proper black holes it would need matter, something not present in a vacuum!!!!
