I can't help mentioning this, but I wonder if there were any copyright issues since they used the same song from the Christmas special "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."
@sweetlife031 I think what they did was do a switch out for replicas of things that were cut to look as if they were chewed up by Cookie, then after that was done, they switched back to the standard set elements.
It's similar to how whenever they need scenes with Muppet characters on the stoop, they switch out the cement steps for hollow ones with holes for the Muppeteers.
I love seeing BB, Alice, Snuffy, and Bruno together in one scene. Especially because Alice and Bruno aren't on the show anymore, and BB and Snuff are starting to get shown less and less (due to the ongrowing popularity of elmo!) :-) I love this! THANKS!
I love Cookie Monster, but he's got the addictive personality of an alcoholic... did you see the way he was shaking when he was near the cake? I think we should have an intervention and send him to rehab!!!
No one can to ANYTHING the way the original performers did. I've said it plenty of times, and I'll say it again. If a performer retires or dies, the character should also be retired.
Nope, not at all, sorry. I suggest browsing eBay, and see what you might be able to find there; once in a blue moon, you'll find something special... like they say "one person's trash is another person's treasure".
I would just like to say thank you very much for posting this. You've helped me conquer all my childhood fears! When I first saw this in 1991, that close up of the lamppost shorting @ 2:56 scared the bejesus out of me. I gave up watching Sesame Street afterwards and had fears of power outages and lampposts ever since. So again, THANK YOU! One thing that I always did wonder after watching this special, how'd they manage to restore Sesame Street after what Cookie Monster had done?
I'm not sure, but looking at the set carefully (the quality became much more distorted than it really is through the transfer from VHS to DVD for the internet), it LOOKS like they simply removed bits of the set, and added replicas that looked like they had been bitten.
Oh yeah, I figured that. I just meant I thought it was odd that they never showed an episode showing the gang working to fix up everything or whatnot.
That's right! It's like the whole day never even happened with this special! I noticed at the end no one even made mention of "Well, looks like we'll have some work to do here on Sesame Street!"
I remember watching this when I was 7 back in 1991, and the part with the camera trying to locate Cookie Monster while he literally eats the street up has stuck with me ever since! There's just no stopping him!

Do you suppose the crew had to rebuild the setting after Cookie couldn't control himself? lol

I can't believe it. The camera panning in
here from the lamp post to Cookie
Monster took 1 minute and 4 seconds.
Sesame Street often found ways in some
episodes and segments to kill extra time
this way. When it got to the meat of the
action, it was either worth the long wait,
or you just watched a swami charming
the numbers 1 to 12, which took too long.

I tell u no one can do cookie monster the way Frank Oz did.
brianklick 3 years ago 4
Too true. I've gotten used to David Rudman's Cookie overtime, but indeed, nobody could measure up to Frank.
GroverKent 2 years ago
Yeah, even though David Rudman's Cookie Monster sounds a bit stilted compared to Frank Oz, I've gotten used to it too

I'm not selling anything, this is from an ANCIENT tape I have that I felt like sharing with other people since this is quite a rare TV special.

Do you have any DVDs and videos to sell to me? Thank you for everything. My brother is a huge Sesame street fan.
