Yes you do need a license, the Ultralight category here is rather similar as it is in e.g. Canada, with a maximum Gross weight of 450 kg land planes and 495 Kg seaplanes, max stall speed of 65 km/h ( sorry about the metrics but you can use Google to translate it to mph if you like.
The requirements are, basic health, 48hrs of theory and min. 25hrs of flight training. It is good that there is training as some of the new ultralights are more demanding than some GA airplanes are.
The reason for the HKS700 is 4-stroke reliablility, have had just too many forced landings due to 2-stroke 582's, and I was more than happy to trade 5 hp to the reliability of the HKS 700E. The performance have not decreased mentionably.
with about 20000 landable lakes in our little country, you get... well everywhere ;-)
Thanks, I will try to do that. There is a plan for a whole 10 minutes long film of amphibian flying in Finland next summer, and there will be lots of different ones in that, not jsut mine.
Great video. I just love the wing mounted camera. I fly a Lake Renegade in Australia so am used to the sorts of things you do in your aircraft. Great that you've made the video so clear and relatively free of vibration. Good work!
You are a bit higher in the food chain with the Renegade :) same element though. Seaplane flying here in Finland is really fun as we have such a vast amount of lakes.
Sony Handycam and its Super Steady Shot technology is to "blame" for the lack of vibration, it actually makes the picture a bit more lively as the image moves a bit even though the camera is rigidly mounted, Blue skies!
Eipä ole tätäkään näkynyt ilmassa tänä vuonna :(

Nyt on taas laillinen, ja ehdin lentää yhden kokonaisen lennon sillä vuonna 2011, mutta kunhan tuo kesä 2012 saapuu niin...

Great video with the unusual camera positions.
Love the aircraft!
Could you give us some more information on it's performance? Things like take off distances, climb rate etc.
I searched around and the other Petrels seem to use the Rotax 582. How come yours has a HKS 700E?
Sorry about so many questions!
