@kevin666demon It's ironic. If you Wikipedia the song, in an interview he says the song is him getting over himself for feeling put out when other DJs would use the tracks he DJd with, because that was his "thing" before then. Then he realised "it's not even my music anyway, get over yourself". Now you have people clinging onto anything to make themselves seem important (doing what he did) and then telling him "you're losing your edge, everyone I know is better than who you know."
Went to a house party one night, it was kind of dying down so I decided to pop this on the speakers. The speakers blare it out for a while, until they spontaneously went on fire. Oh James Murphy :)
The best lyrics on the pop culture ever. Kids are coming from behind and they've already won the race you think you're still in. To be relevant, be young (and don't even act like you're staying young) ! This first hit of LCD had its last will inside : we are a swan song band. Burn out ! (it's better). But what luxurious gems Mr Murphy gave us before he closed his wonderful soundsystem !
There are too many fake hipsters nowadays, the internet makes it possible for people to pretend they know something, when they really know nothing. I was there.
@silenc3x no dude, no. What he is talking about and the way he says it is exactly what makes this shit a fucking masterpiece. the only thing worst than an ignorant is a proud ignorant. My advice: do some research, learn about what he is talking about, and if you're lucky you might feel embarrassed.
@dic3ful he's referring to his earlier years. he's losing his edge... he's an aging hipster reminiscing of what once was.he's ripping on what it is to be hipster and cool nowadays.... I get it. I just find it boring as music. I am entitled to that.
My though is that at least that song has layers... more than one instrument. How deep can you get with a couple Roland TR-808 drum loops merged together? In that way you are TOTALLY dependent on the vocals telling a story.
@silenc3x@silenc3x you are not without reason. but notice that they actually have layers of drumloops and the acoustic drums on top of that, don't tell me you can't tell there's an actual drummer in there. and every pattern (or track) is run through one master mixer, playing with the volume to make the whole thing a crescendo. you should listen to the other tracks of that album, really. try this one, i'm sure you'll like it and dude. the vocals ARE telling a story.
@dic3ful LCD Soundsystem isn't for me. I think I just find James Murphy irritating in general. It's like a talking-headesque annoying whining. That song just seemed repetitive and annoying, minimalistic for the sake of it... the beat was like a shitty version of "nine inch nails - discipline", but i digress..
I'll never be a LCD fan, but i respect your opinion. There is no right or wrong. That's what makes music great. I listen to a lot of trance and electro while many of my friends hate it.
@dic3ful I enjoy both for different reasons.... Lately the anjunabeats label has been killing it in the trance genre. old school trance is great though: early 2000s... binary finary, energy 52, three drives on a vinyl, gus gus, paul van dyk, etc.
It's nice to be excited to new music though. Best feeling ever.
I heard that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables. I heard that you and your band have sold your turtables and bought guitars.
"I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables. I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars. I hear everybody that you know is more relevant than everybody I know." - Some of the best fucking lyrics in any song ever.
If LCD Soundsystem played at my house I would change and lose my edge, because all my friends could bring someone great called the disco infiltrator and bring all I want to the party. Just get innocuous! I dance myself clean till 45:33, I came home and I wanted a hit, drunk girls said: I heared you were there, I HEARED, that you have a compilation of every good song, I heared... is time to get away, the north american scum is coming...
Thumbs up if you need an Lcd Soundsystem. 2002 - 2011...
@cassandramountakis a representation of him feeling he's falling behind in the game, each new artist that pushes boundaries more than him is a slap in the face.
It just sounds like a man whinging that kids don't know what real music is. Yeah, it's smart, but I doubt I'll listen to it again. Something for music critics to wank off to.
