  • Thanks for posting! I wish I had been there. It was 08 and not 06 tho :)

  • Say what you want but its refreshing for any scottish/irish/welsh band to sing in the style of the local vernacular. It's a hell of a lot more interesting than listening to an imitation of the ubiquitous American style that pervades modern music. Glasvegas are another example, I like them too.

  • @poontangsta1 Glasvegas would have done this tune better. No one is bashing your heritage, just the band.....relax. No need to put down American music. If they were from America they would receive the same responses.

    Rock on.

  • @axeman7000 Well I am pretty relaxed. But I in no way bashed American music just the American rock/pop "style". There is a subtle difference. And just to be clear I love some American bands... To be honest I can't remember making that comment think I was pretty baked at the time :]

  • @poontangsta1 Well, don't boggart it...pass it on over ;)

  • JUst heard the proclaimers for the first time today ,so I came to Youtube to take a look and they are awesome one of many great things to come out of Scotland

  • why come on here n diss the proclaimers? whats the fucking point? and if theyre so shit, why are they one of scotlands biggest musical acts..

  • I'm with you wompo!

  • aye.. tis tru

  • They are a great scotish band! what wrong with the scotist accent

  • not so much a fat dudley more a fat donkey.

  • I thought they'd only go 5000 miles.

  • Lol!!!

  • its 500 miles + 500 more = 1000 miles u stupid bastard... if ur gonna comment get it rite >:(

  • Wreckless Eric himself says this is his favorite take on the song. I find it "just okay" but rather plodding. The Wreckless version is my favorite - the Ferrell version a great version for a movie - and there are some really good home takes by folks on the Tube.

  • wow, the Proclaimers really suck.

The Will Ferrel or Wreckless Eric versions are sung so much better.

  • it is a decent cover... enjoyable... but the wreckless eric one is way better

  • duh they made it.

And yeh the accent kinda kills it

"I guho eh ole ide urld"

  • nah the accents what the proclaimers are all about

  • well then their screwed cuz 500 miles is all i remember

i guh uh ole wize werld

  • bollocks

  • Awesome, gotta love the Proclaimers!!!

  • thats lame, just listen to the refrain that was once rocking

  • no way as good as Wreckless Eric version. Or Will Ferrel's 4 that matter.

  • Check out wreckless eric for the real one

  • amazing really love what they have done with this song

  • great version of the song

  • great cover

  • they rock hands down the best euro band

  • wide world too biggggggggggggggggg for proclaimers they masssssssssssively great scottish band ! !!

  • NUFF SAID. You're a fuckin prick mate!!!!

  • good cover but bring on wreckless at belladrum 11th august 07 braw

  • Wreckless Eric is best known as one of the original members of the Stiff Records artist roster, along with Ian Dury, Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe, and his biggest hit record was "Whole Wide World". This, his debut single, was produced by, and featured bass (and most of the other instruments) by Nick Lowe, with Ian Dury on drums. Eighteen bands have covered "Whole Wide World", such as The Monkees, who covered the song on their Pool It! album in 1987. NUFF SAID

  • I thought they'd only go 5000 miles.

  • lol

  • nd can talk with a great scottish acent

  • this guys accent is hilarious

  • i don't care if this was written by the monkees or wreckless eric you smart-asses, or if you saw them in concrt! either way, these pricks suck!!!!!

  • dude you friggin suck the proclaimers pwn. they're making more money than you, nub, so maybe your the prick here, eh?

  • a agree wae casey like that drues a fuken nobjockey arse hole wankstain streak o fuken pish git it right roon ye ya tospot

  • Gotta say, the original by Wreckless Eric is by far my favorite version of the song. He put real emotion into it and with the gravely voice and passion it really matched the lyrics searching the "whole wide world" to find her.

  • f****ng Monkees....lol..did they actually write anything ?

  • Of course it's by Wreckless Eric. Why else would the Proclaimers be playing it at the Mathew Street festival IN LIVERPOOL?

  • these guys did a great cover

    and for everyone skeptical/stupid

    MONKEES DIDN'T WRITE IT.

it was wreckless eric, as some of you said.

(no, im not correcting something thats already been corrected)

  • monkees covered on itunes as (I'd Go The) Whole Wide World they recorded first way back when

  • Love the Proclaimers. Love this song!

  • I meant Monkees!

  • I hope everyone knows that this is a song that was recorded the Mponkees before it was covered by Wreckless Eric!

  • Not according to allmusic.com, unless the Monkees recorded it under a different name. Wreckless Eric is listed with the songwriting credit.

  • The Monkees definitely covered this song, not the other way around. I mean, it's the Monkees after all. They didn't write much.

  • get your facts straight lame-ass

  • Wreckless Eric done it first wether ye like it or no so shut yer fuken hole

  • Love the fact that the Proclaimers are covering Wreckless Eric's Whole Wide World, makes me love them even more. :)

  • they talk funny. bunch of weenies.
